Kaoma, meeting Nej for the first time: Okay, so the Manifest tells me that you're creative.
Nyjamir: Yes.
Kaoma: May I ask what it is you create?
Nyjamir: Problems!
Ryan: We're heroes for doing this.
Shane: I don't know if we're heroes-- we're incredibly stupid for doing this.
pls show me the forbidden character and campaign playlists 🤲✨ what is the most specific to a character/scene/emotion/etc. song on your playlists? (when you have time of course!!! ❤)
ahhh thank you for asking!! I love talking about my characters. this is-- long lmao.
Necromancer?
Character: Dorian Pappas, human necromancer wizard/twilight cleric Song: Farewell Life by Nights Amore and Arn Andersson Cassidy was an NPC paladin that was Dorian's boyfriend. He didn't know Dorian was a necromancer until Dorian used necromancy to save his life, and then he arrested him. Dorian was found guilty of using necromancy (it's illegal in this setting) and had divine visitation from who he thought was the goddess he follows. It wasn't. He was manipulated into going back in time to undo what he had done, and in the process, Cassidy dies in front of him - directly because of the choice he had made. This is the music that played as Cassidy died and at his funeral.
Cleric of Karamin
Character: Killian Farwind, half-elf arcana cleric Song: Oh Listener Mine by Double Experience This is THE Killian song. There are other songs on her playlist that are specific to other scenes or emotions, but this is the core of her character. She follows the god of the Kosmos and is always trying to find new things and explore new places. She actually ends up being a plane jumper and her goal is to map the Astral Sea. Also the cover art is a dragon, and Karamin (her god) is a dragon.
Watcher of the Veils
Character: Daelen Willowbrook, elf/orc watchers paladin Song: Fear Not This Night by Eliott Tordu This is Daelen's theme music. The lyrics are so thematically appropriate for him given his backstory. He follows the goddess of the Kosmos, and the concept of despite the darkness growing, the night also brings the stars-- it's a central concept in how I play Daelen. He's weary and he's been through a lot and he's seen some awful things, but all hope is not lost.
Hunting for Vengeance
Character: Diabhal (Vrathysil), drow hunter ranger Song: Far From Home (The Raven) by Sam Tinnesz This was the character I played in our online campaign during the mandatory COVID-19 quarantine. The campaign was set in the same world as the main campaign, just 80 years prior. Effectively we were going to be the heroes that stopped an event from happening at that time. What we didn't realise at the time was that none of our characters in the main campaign had ever heard of us-- we were lost to history. We had to close a portal from another plane of existence, but in doing so, we got trapped there. So this is Diabhal's last thoughts because he left a significant other behind.
Jester
Character: Corrin Fletcher, hollow one lore bard Song: Kings Gambit by Brand X Music Corrin is a reborn hollow one under the control of the BBEG of the campaign I run. She has his soul, and as a result, he's effectively her undying pet assassin. His handler is the arcane advisor to the king of one of the countries, but that king is a usurper and the party is working to get rid of him. More or less, the music is good for combat, but it's also a play on words since Corrin is going to have to take out Ilyon before he can try to get his soul and his freedom back.
Athcala
Character: Vaelyn Aerandir, elf trickery cleric Song: Shit Boat (No Fans) by Alestorm This was a mini-campaign within a larger campaign that my brother was running, and it was solely focused on the pirate islands, so we were pirates. Um, we were assholes lmao. This was the theme song of our ship, Turem's Grace.
Athcala
Character: Nyjamir the Farseer, aasimar lore bard Song: Helvegen by Wardruna Yes there's another one from the same playlist-- I actually had 3 characters in this campaign. There was an artifact wielded by the BBEG that would consume souls and that person ceased to exist, unable to be brought back by any magic. Some beloved NPCs had fallen to that artifact, and for all the happy/bittersweet endings we all had, we couldn't get them back. Except. Except. Nej follows Gazia, the god of fate. They have an oracle deck that they made themselves (I actually made it and had it printed, it's one of my fav DnD things that I own). And Gazia blessed their oracle deck. So each card will cast a spell if drawn in combat. Nej had never drawn the card associated with Gazia, and so didn't know entirely what it did. And they are very much the kind of person that's like, "what happens happens" but this time they purposely shuffled through their oracle deck to pull that card and prayed for Gazia to help. The spell associated with that card is Wish. So Nej summoned the souls of everyone who had died from the Hells Razor back into existence, allowing them to cross over into the afterlife. And it was in this liminal space, which I found out later was the Veil that separates the world of the living from Solace. And Nej is a bard, so the verbal component of their Wish was to sing the rights of the dead to guide them to Solace, which I adapted from the lyrics of this song. The lyrics, which specifically say, "who will sing me into death-sleep when on the path to Hel I go." Nej literally stood on the Veil and sang their friends across to guide them to the afterlife.
Athcala
Song: My Friends by Oh Wonder This song wasn't necessarily tied to any of my characters specifically, but there was a scene after we defeated the BBEG where our favourite NPC was dying. He had died and come back as a revenant and his purpose was now fulfilled. And he was young, like early 20s. We were all saying goodbye and I just remember him saying how lucky he was to have known us and that he was glad we were there because he was scared. Athcala was the first and only campaign I've played to the end. And it really came down to it, that after everything, after all the losses and hard decisions-- it was about the love we had for each other. So this song reminds me of Ket's final moments, looking at the sun setting on the ocean, surrounded by all the people who loved him.
if you got through all that, thank you for still being here lol
