In honour of Tamil Heritage Month in Canada 🇨🇦. Meet my dad, Kanagasabapathy Ponniah (1945-2014), better known as Kanagasabapathy Master or Athippar (the Tamil word for principal). He was principal of one of the most famous schools in Sri Lanka; loved to garden (I did not inherit that) and at age 79, was more active, socially conscious and smarter than me. . My dad was the one who gave me the gift of words. During his lifetime, he had written over 20 books in Tamil on various topics, from psychology to children’s stories, to a history of education in Jaffna. . One thing that saddens me, is that I am unable to read his works because of my own ignorance. I am fixing that, and this year am making a commitment to learn to read and write in Tamil; with all of its nuances and multi-layered meanings. . Tamil is one of the oldest languages in the world - the written form being seen as far back as 2000 BC. The more I learn about this poetic language, the more I am excited to be able to one day write in it. Hopefully, in December of this year, I will be able to share a poem completely composed in Tamil 🤞🏾😁. . So to all those who share and celebrate the Tamil Heritage, this ones for you ❤ . . . #writing #poetsofinstagram #tamilpoet #tamilgirl #mypoeticheart #poemsbymanivillie #torontopoet #torontopoetry #mypoeticheart #poem #poetrycommunity #poet #toronto #womanpoet #torontopoets #canadianpoet #father #fathersanddaughters #tamil #tamilheritagemonth #tamil #athipar
