Athnarel
Chosen of Elgar'nan, Sun-Tamer, Crown of Arlathan, First of the Firstborn, Lord of the Day and of the Night, who Woke at the Dawn of the Elvhen
With OC kiss week around the corner, I decided to make a little list of all my new Veilguard OCs as well as some of my existing OCs who are around during Veilguard times. Please consider this an invitation to send smooches to any of these lovelies, if you so desire!
In parentheses after each character's name I've listed their age, pronouns, sexuality, and whether they're open to receiving romantic kisses, platonic kisses, or both. 💜
VEILGUARD OCs
Aristide "Rook" Mercar
(28 | they/them/he/him | bisexual | romantic/platonic)
Faction: Shadow Dragons
Lineage: Qunari (Vashoth; raised Tevinter)
Class: Mage (Spellblade)
Found abandoned as a baby and raised by a Soporati military family, Aristide dwells at a curious intersection of social classes in Tevinter. They learned the advantages of adaptability and a quick wit from a young age, and these skills have helped them survive in the ruthless world of Tevinter politics. Their impatience to see change happen can sometimes lead to a stubborn brashness that gets them into trouble more often than not. Aristide makes friends easily and is always ready to welcome a new ally in the fight to bring reform to their homeland, by whatever means necessary.
Anezka, Warden-Commander of the Imperium
(45 | she/her | bisexual | romantic/platonic)
Faction: Grey Wardens
Lineage: Dwarven (Casteless)
Class: Warrior (Champion)
Anezka was born the daughter of a dwarven ambassador to Tevinter, beneath the protective stone of the Minrathous embassy. Due to an incident as a young girl, she was exposed to the sky and stripped of her caste. Rather than live out her life as the shame of her family, Anezka chose instead to join the Grey Wardens. After more than thirty years with the order, she's earned herself a place as Warden-Commander of the Tevinter Imperium. She is blunt and sometimes brutally honest, but she tempers her high demands on her Wardens with a good sense of humor.
Athnarel, Chosen of Elgar'nan
(??? | she/her | pansexual | romantic/platonic)
Faction: The Evanuris
Lineage: Elven (Ancient Elf)
Class: Mage (Arcane Warrior)
Once a spirit of Devotion, Athnarel took a body for herself at the height of Elvhenan and was taken into the service of Elgar'nan. Her loyalty and cleverness won his approval, and she was eventually promoted to a position as the captain of Elgar'nan's elite personal guard — and his mistress. Ever since Fen'Harel trapped the Evanuris, she has spent the centuries guarding the last of Elgar'nan's temples, dutifully awaiting her Lord's return. Ruthlessly cunning and as cold as ice, she isn't someone you want to cross.
Sylvester
(26 | he/him | demisexual | platonic)
Faction: Shadow Dragons
Lineage: Elven (City Elf)
Class: Mage (Spirit Healer)
Once, Sylvester was considered a magical prodigy and promised a better life than any Tevinter elf could hope for. Unfortunately, in Tevinter, such dreams rarely come true. Abducted and sold into slavery, he spent eight years in chains. Since being freed, Sylvester has devoted his life to the Shadow Dragon cause in the hope of helping others escape a life in bondage. He is emotionally distant but his character is steady and reliable, and his skill as a healer and surgeon is unmatched.
Baqoun, Worldly Wayfarer
(54 | he/him | pansexual | romantic/platonic)
Faction: Lords of Fortune
Lineage: Qunari (Tal-Vashoth)
Class: Rogue (Saboteur)
Despite having rejected Qunari society, Baqoun still carries a strong faith in the core tenets of the Qun. He has a deep interest in history and folklore, and collects treasures from other cultures in order to return them to their rightful owners. He is something of a self-taught minstrel and storyteller, and he laughs well and often. A fatherly figure, especially to young folks around him, Baqoun is encouraging, jovial, good-humored, energetic — and always ready for a fling with a new lover.

thank you for your response! it's fine, mistakes happen. the asterisk denotes "and other identities such as non-binary ones" as if it is not already under the trans umbrella, thus it causes exclusivity. i was less bothered by the whole naming thing as i was a bit bothered people would want to focus on krem's past when you can focus on krem's now, which i think most trans people share their thoughts on. they're not what society forced them in the past but are what they have worked to now.
Huh, I haven’t thought about the trans* in that way before I guess. It’s not come up in my local community yet, and I’m not sure it’s right for me to bring up (the ‘club president’ (representive? I’m not sure what to call it in this context in English) is bigender so we’re usually pretty finetuned on gender identity issues).
I think I get it - it’s like the whole insensitive genitals question, isn’t it? I had mixed feelings about that dialogue option with Krem- if he’d transition if he could. Because the inherent negative bias put on blood magic, that wasn’t a really good comparison, especially since we know what can go wrong and that it involves murder. It has all the wrong associations, but I did like Krem’s answer (eh I’m happy enough with my body I just need a sock kinda thing).
I’m not sure IIRC but I felt like there wasn’t a good accepting dialogue starter to get Krem’s background story from him- the two I remember are “so ARE you a man or?” and “why do you dress like a woman if you’re a man”. (it’s been a while since I’ve seen the let’s play so I don’t know where the other dialogue options lead but they sounded like they wouldn’t reveal Krem’s background?) I mean I’m glad they added him, for representation and because he’s one of my favourite characters
(and because the only other trans person - Maevaris - hasn’t been openly trans in any of the games and from what I’ve read was supposed to be a drag queen joke in the first place. We’ll see where Bioware will go with her - and how they can explain the fucked up Tevinter politics that Krem can’t be allowed to be a man there but one of their Magisters is trans? I mean you could put it down to social status differences, but Dorian wasn’t allowed to be gay if he didn’t produce in heir but Mae went and married a male dwarf and research indicates her father still being alive. It seems like a bit of a plothole, I hope they don’t retcon her cis)
yo, saw your post in krem tag. i'm non-binary and i use the masculine form of my name. first off, can i just point out the flawed linguistics you used? "a transmen" is a singular plural + the obvious mistake of not spacing the word trans. trans is an adjective, not a noun. putting an asterisk after "trans" is unncessary because it actually causes exclusivity. and this will sound blunt, but i think one shouldn't really focus on a trans person's birth name. you're sorta dismissing who krem is now.
Hi! :D
First, thanks for taking me up on the request for dialogue about this. As a cis woman (is this spelling better?) I am well aware regarding my limitations in discussions involving trans people. However, I didn’t want to leave anon hanging and had some thoughts on fandoms interaction with cisswap, hence the post (I am assuming you’re refering to this one here?)
I just fixed the typo on the original post. Thank you for pointing that out and I apologize for my offense.
I am, however, a bit confused on what the correct spelling is. My local lgbt community uses trans*men, trans*women and trans*people (we’re in Germany though so take that with a grain of salt), and I’ve seen the spelling trans* used as an umbrella term for trans-nonbinary-genderfluid-bigender-agender a lot. I’ve been scolded in the past for not adding the asterisk on trans. I will definitely have to do more research on the history of the term in recent years. (I’m not trying to weasle myself out of responsibility here, I’m just trying to explain how it came about. I thought trans* was the currently accepted and least offensive term and used it as such. I did not mean to cause offense and apologize to anyone my words have hurt.)
Now, to the last part of your message: I agree that the birth name of a person is not an important thing, unless that person wants to give it imortance. Anon wrote me in response to a post I made where I wondered why Krem chose the name Cremisius and what that said about his character- asking if anyone had headcanons. I followed up on that thought later here.
What I wanted to point out in the original post was mainly that the assumption that Krem’s birth name has to be Cremisia or similar was bothering me, especially if handwaved away with “Krem being uncreative”. (It’s ok if it is. I just thought it didn’t necessarily have to be and Bioware didn’t give us any canon as far as I’m aware?)
It’s been bothering me in cisswap stories before, that names have to be kept as similar to the ‘original’ as possible - which of course has to do with easing the reading comprehensibility but it bothers me nonetheless. (re: the Stella/Steph Rogers discussion, the Bruce/Bryce Banner thing)
And, on a more selfish note, I’ve been thinking a lot about Krem’s birth name because I’m planning on writing a fic in which Dorian interacts with Krem’s parents who keep calling him by his birth name. Though I’m definitely going to ask a beta with more personal experience on those issues to check the story over before I post it.
I hope this explains a bit better where I was coming from? I’d still like to apologize to you personally: I didn’t mean to sound like your name choice was invalid. It shouldn’t matter what name a person decides on, or how often it changes - it is a choice that should be accepted and respected.
