a Thousand Times Good Night (2013)
To do and to not be able to
In this, our global society, the abundance of things you ought to do something about can be overwhelming. The problems of others become your own, courtesy of numerous news channels. The wrongs experienced by few are shared by many. Yet somehow some wrongs shared by many are understood by few. Some things you just filter out, out of necessity. But others you cannot close your eyes to. The First-World-Problem, the real one, is not as ridiculous as one might think.
Diverge your gaze from the so called brutalities of being bereft of an internet connection or running out of coffee. Aim a little higher. The horror of those lucky enough to grow up in a safe home in a safe country is hard to explain without sounding pretentious. I will however risk it and say that the true suffering of The Lucky Few is this; To see with your eyes the problems of those less lucky than yourself. To feel with your heart the urge to do something about it. But to come to the conclusion that you are too small a person in the grand scheme of things to make a difference.
Don't do this. Don't conclude. Convey!
Let the world know that you see it. Let The Others know that you see them. And scream at the top of your lungs for justice. It may or may not make a difference. It cannot make anything worse.
Kine Strøm Braaten
This is by far one of the most beautiful lyrics I have come across. Particularly when listened to in the aftermath of A Thousand Times Good Night..
1. how would a perfect date play out? 2. do you eat breakfast? 3. did you know that coles has a life size cut out of 1d and a headless dude so you can stick your head in and be with them? heheheheheeeeeee
1. (ellen you are an adorable romantic.) i, uh, i don’t even know. there would be food and dessert and a lot of stupid laughter at stupid things. quiet-comfortable moments, probably hand-holding. 2. yes i do! on uni mornings i will usually eat my breakfast either on the train or in my first lecture. coffee is 100% always involved.
3. hahahrharhjhfdgha ellen what does it say about me that i have been aware of it for a while now? what does it say about me that every time i walk past the cutout i like, can’t help but smile very delightedly at it? these are very rhetorical questions and please no-one inbox me any answers to them.
merry, in response to the me: wow i'm fat, me: i'm perfect the way i am etc etc post i just want to say that i think you are beautiful. :)
but say you were fat, what is so inherently abhorrent about it? being unfit is bad! but feeling sad about being fat is probably linked to feeling different/feeling that you're expected to look different which is unnecessary! you are who you are. and you're beautiful :)
aww ellen ilu you sho sweet (: i'm not even sure what it is sometimes- probably a lot of it is to do with society and how women are portrayed, just like you said :/ also i have wide hips, and because of that sometimes clothes don't always look great, and that sometimes spurs the 'oh god i should start working out' thoughts, but i just tell myself that if i ever had kids i will be so grateful for them lol. also this is probably bordering on tmi but i think that i look pretty good as long as i have underwear on, but as soon as it comes off there's just something weird about my waist-hip region, like it's not smooth or nice lines or whatever.
sometimes, it's just like my sadness or chucking a temper tantrum. i know somewhere in the back of my head that it's stupid and i really have nothing to be sad/trivially pissed/insecure about, but i can't help it regardless.
publishing because i feel like this is a psa or something, idk.
