Well, we made it out alive.

.......Yay? I don't know what to say. Aang deserves so much better than this.

No funny jokes, no lighthearted comments. just silence, and then the credits roll. Sounds about right.

I’m....... I’m so sad for Aang. I’d bet he rarely got to be a kid before the war, being told he was the Avatar years before he should’ve, and now, even though he's gotten a few episodes to joke around, the pressure has stacked on top of him. He has an ultimatum now, and it’s horrifically short. He has until the end of the summer.

Avatar Review: 1x08 Winter Solstice Part 2: Avatar Roku

Sleep deprived? Procrastinating revision? What a perfect time to be watching Avatar!

Wait, how did Zuko get here so fast?

Actually, we have no idea how much time has passed, so I’m giving this one a pass

Noooo, Zuko, don’t go! Listen to your uncle!

How can Zuko guarantee that a fireball won’t instantly kill Aang?

If you could go above the cloud line, why wasn’t that your first move?

Wait, why did the subtitles say it was Zhao yelling? He’s not here yet, is he?

Zuko, are you not going to make any precautions against Zhao? I mean, he does have an army and you have one tiny boat...

So, why exactly do the fire sages want Aang dead? He’s Avatar Roku reincarnated, surely they’d want to help?

Ooop, okay, never mind, they explained

Well hearing Aang’s voice mixed with all the other avatars was creepy as hell. He hasn’t talked while in avatar state before, has he? I guess this is why. For a great reveal

You know, I thought we’d seen the last of Zhao. Apparently no. That’s a shame - there doesn’t seem to be any nuance with him. Team Zuko!

We made it!! And just in time!

And we've made a friend! I'm very glad that not every single Sage is completely awful, good.

Oh, he .... lived here? That's very firebend-y of him, I guess, with the whole volcano thing. Also, they said he could bend the MAGMA??? that's insane.

We've got the bastard's name!!!! The cause of literally everyone's troubles is Sozin.

I don't think we pay enough attention to the fact that Avatar Roku also frees Zuko at the temple during the winter solstice when he helps Aang escape. It's not super super clear if the chains are burned off or Zuko breaks them in his hilarious brute force style, but what a nice little touch that Roku does not target Zuko as an enemy outright.
