Day 3: Found family / Unexpected ally.

Dialog:

Gyatso: I think it is unlikely the Spirits will grant you what you seek, Prince Iroh.

Iroh: Monk Gyatso?

Gyatso: You know of me?

Iroh: You’re infamous in the Fire Nation. The White Lotus has dispelled those lies.

Gyatso: Ah.

Iroh: Please help me.

Gyatso: I sense there is something else troubling you.

Continuation:

Iroh: Even before my change of heart, I envied monk life.

Gyatso: And why is that?

Iroh: I’ve never wanted to marry...

Gyatso: I’m afraid, Prince, that many men want the same thing, and it has nothing to do with our communal principles.

Iroh: No! No! Please believe I mean no disrespect, first of all. And secondly... I’ve never wanted to be with a woman, period!

Gyatso: ...

Gyatso: Interesting.

Iroh: It’s always been ‘you need to produce an heir, Iroh!’ I adored my wife as a person, and yet I haven’t been able to grieve her properly because I felt relieved, being free. Now I feel as if I’ve lost something I’ve paid a price for with my heart ... Lu Ten. I ask myself, does this go beyond normal grief? It seems so. Even before my change of loyalty, my daydreams were filled with what it must have been like, never having to dodge so many women interested in the royal family, and not even have to deal with plain interest as a commoner man would either.

Gyatso: Grandson of Sozin the Slayer, though you have every reason to manipulate me, I believe you.

Iroh: ...

Gyatso: I cannot help you find your son. But I can tell you of monk life, if you wish. And I can ask some Spirits if there is such a thing as an anti-love potion. That should be an interesting exercise. I won’t tell them who it’s for.

Iroh. Thank you.

Gyatso: You may find that the right woman may move past it though ... don’t be so sure that no one would give you affection without expectation, Prince.

Iroh: Please. The only title I can bear with now is Uncle.

Gyatso: I understand. Now, what’s your first question?
