#CuttingRoomAntics, brought to you by #ThrowbackThursday. Strap in: this description is a long one. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not as well versed in Marvel’s comics as I am their films. But I know that following the comics to the letter would mean we would have a completely different Thor franchise. As a matter of fact, in the infancy of the series we would come to know as the MCU, Thor was going to be a movie far more inspired in the Norse mythology than it is currently. It also would have dealt heavily with the VIking era. In the myth, Loki not not only changed shape often, but sex, as well. A female Loki is no stranger amongst those who study Norse myth. But in the comics, Loki would return as the Goddess of Stories after a three year hiatus between volumes, and only after Thor tore his head off and mounted it to his belt loop to force him to watch the last moments of Ragnarok. But true to the myth, Ragnarok was brought about by Loki. I suppose the movie was, in a very small way, loyal to the myth, even if Loki’s motives were entirely different. Between comics and myth, there’s alot of lore to unpack, but I’ve always been a sucker for Norse aesthetic and darker stories. For this exercise, I put myself in the shoes of a director that would have been tasked to bring us a Norse-inspired Loki. The midtones were darkened and desaturated, save for the green that we’ve come to associate Loki with. I tightened that brightened the highlights for a customized contrast. Finally, and for the first time that I can recall, I sealed the deal with a bit of post-processed noise. It just felt like noise would be appropriate here. So there it is: #LadyLoki at #AtlantaComicCon.
