Liberty Plaza: A New Public Forum
The hope of this blog is a discussion. Not a pulpit, a playground, or a waste of time...
As construction begins on the new plaza, many question the effect of this new downtown park. Its main function is to provide a new space for 1st amendment rights for protestors as well as provide an outside area for employees of the state to enjoy their lunch break. This park, which is to replace the parking deck on the back side of the capital building, has already received some criticism in the recent weeks. What are the feelings of the architect's, planners and designers of the new park and master plan? What is the feelings toward the park and its location to the community members and frequenters of the area? How do individual and group activist feel about the proposed design? And what do the congressmen and state employees feel about the new space? These and many other questions are the topic of discourse, and the hope is that together, a community of Atlantans, will strive to answer them.
