they’re taking the carnival by storm; hitting up each gaming booth, each roller coaster and ride, where money will allow it, at least. “i think we make a good team,” he grins over at mera, before, “oh, the high striker ------ !” he points then, towards the tall, glittery board, an oversized hammer poised beside it. “how ‘bout it?” bucky stuffs his hand into his pocket, rolling the change around in his palm. “i think i can swing it.”

Mera’s first winter on the surface is still a memory Arthur holds dear. When the first snow started to fall, they were inside the lighthouse, curled up in front of the fireplace when Arthur noticed the first flakes starting to fall. Softly he took Mera’s hand, barely containing his excitement to share this new experience with her. “ I’d like to show you something… “ He whispered to her almost in reverence as they walked through the front door, finding themselves in steady snowfall, he couldn’t have wished for a better first snow, large fluffy flakes lazily gliding down to the ground, already forming a thick layer. But the most important part, that sense of wonder on Mera’s face, it was worth more than any treasures of the sea. She has heard of snow before, saw it on Arthur’s family photos, but to live through it herself, that was something else.

Like most things with her, it was like a fairy tale, once she caught a few flakes in her palm, admiring the crystals, as it slowly melted in the warmth of her hands, a new idea came to her, forming beautiful patterns as snow swirled upwards and across the air through her command. Both laughing, until Arthur an idea of his own, forming a snowball and throwing it at Mera. It came as a surprise and the snow fell back, Arthur explaining through a slight giggle that it’s what humans do to play in the snow, pointing at a small group of children doing the same in the distance. However that was an already lost battle for him as Mera formed a dozen snowballs in the air without any effort, sending them flying through the air towards Arthur. He ran, laughing, not giving up, what’s the fun in that? They would play like that, at least for an hour, laughing and rolling in the snow, making snow angels and making the discovery that snowmen are once again a very easy concept for Mera, after all, they were rather snow sculptures, beautifully crafted turtles and octopuses, even the lighthouse itself.

They would go on a walk hand in hand, still giggling and recalling all the fun they had, settling to sit on the steps of one of the marine restaurants, watching as the snow fell around them. Looking up, Arthur’s new discovery made him smile with mischief as he looked back at Mera. “ So, there’s this custom among the surface-dwellers, that if you find this certain plant called the mistletoe hung up above two people, THEY MUST KISS. “ Pointing upwards he revealed that on the top of the small gateway hung indeed a small a few branches, tied together with red ribbon. Mera teased, not quite sure if Arthur made the story up in that moment just to get a kiss out of her. “ Would I ever lie to you? “ Arthur asked, using his most charming smile as he leaned in, breathing a gentle kiss to Mera’s lips.
