fanfic questions!

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

Online? I think it was actually the Elenium/Tamuli, way back when I first got on ffnet. It was about the same time my other friends were into Harry Potter, so... early aughts-ish? I wasn’t anywhere near involved as we can be on tumblr (or as people were on LJ), because it was just on ffnet and interacting with other fanfic authors via A/N’s and reviews. It wasn’t a big fandom, either, as I feel David Eddings’ stuff is kind of... more esoteric compared to mainstream old school fantasy? But boy did we love our Sir Bevier. (come to think of it, that might be where the seed for my affinity for Sebastian was planted...)

27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?

God they’re both awful sometimes. Probably summaries by a hair.

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

A playground to practice writing in! To enjoy exploring all the smaller moments without having to set everything prior up yourself and have people understand the context!

R. If you had to rewrite one of your stories from scratch, which one would it be? What would you do to it?

This... is a terrifying prospect. I’m much less a “rewrite entirely” than a “shear off the fat and add back on” kind of person, because I genuinely like a lot of stuff I write in a story that doesn’t necessarily work overall, and I want to keep the better stuff if I can.

THAT SAID.

I don’t really have any fully finished original works I would do this to, but I think I would definitely rewrite my first DA fic, Bonds of Blood given the chance. I would like to make it better, make it fit canon a bit more.

But. I also am taking the bones of the premise of that story (which didn’t really fit so well into the DA universe to begin with) and am going to place it in one of my own worlds, so I suppose one day I will be rewriting it.

H.  How do you write? Paper, pen, computer? Music, no music?

Yes, yes, yes, no.

I used to write a lot more with pen&paper (looks at blog moniker), but the way that life has been for me lately, it’s just been a bit of a shortcut to write directly onto the computer. I still really love and enjoy writing by hand, but time has been simply too scarce and fleeting for me to write my first drafts on paper and then type them up the way that I used to.

I try to listen to music as often as I can--it helps get me in the headspace and mood of whatever I’m writing. I’ve got heaps of playlists for different writing things, and one General Writing playlist that’s good for a number of projects if I’m not jiving the more specific ones. I love writing to music--especially when things match up out of nowhere: the music will be background mood noise, and then all of a sudden, a song will swell into the forefront and sync up perfectly with the scene and mood of the scene that I’m currently writing. It’s happened a few times for me, and every time I hear that song I’m just instantly transported back to the mood of whatever it was I was writing when it happened. I love it.

B. Who’s your favorite side-character from something you wrote?

From my current project--the newest character I just got to introduce in Part II! I love them so much. They’re a traveler whose anything but ordinary, and I’m so very, very excited to write them more.

L.  Which character did you most write about this year, and why do you like ‘em?

Wow this is a toughie. Hm. Again, as far as original current novel project goes, Wren is the one I’ve written about the most, being one of the two (and arguably the more) main characters of my novel. I love her because... She’s snarky but adores her companion, Quill. She also screws up a lot because she didn’t finish her education before starting to make her Bad Decisions, but she follows her heart furiously and refuses to give up---even when it drives her past the point of collapse.
