Their hand shakes when they knock on his door, which is stupid. They’ve paid him a thousand visits over the years. It’s not abnormal. And especially lately... They’re allowed. They’re allowed to want to see him. See him just because he’s there, not because of obligation or duty, but because the sound of his voice makes them feel at peace and god could they use some of that. Old habits die hard. Their hand still shakes.
It’s not really a normal visit, anyway. It’s an anniversary of sorts. Three hundred sixty five days since their eyes fluttered open after months lying cold and comatose. He was the first thing they saw, of course, from what they gather he’d barely left their bedside while they slept. He’s been so good. Kind, careful, supportive. They just want to thank him. Make sure he realizes how far they’ve come. Time seems to disappear on this island, they need him to know it’s been a year. It feels significant, somehow.
Despite their assurances to themself, they still appear uncertain when he opens the door. No matter. They’ll speak anyway. “Fuyuhiko, I... I’ve gotten us clearance to leave the building for a bit. Until sundown. Would you like to take a walk with me?”
