"C'mon love, we're going shopping"
"Shopping? In LA? Spike!" You squealed and giggled and you jumped into his arms, wrapping your own tightly around your boyfriend "You know I love you every day no matter what but now I really really love you!"
He laughed as he squeezed you back "I know, pet. I love you too. Now let's go while the shops are still open"
The two of you made your way to the biggest mall in the city and you spent hours going from store to store. Spike was carrying half a dozen bags on each arm and he knew you could keep going for hours. He watched your eyes light up as you spotted a cute top or the perfect pair of jeans that would make your ass look great, not that you needed any help.
A thought popped into your head suddenly and you turned back to Spike.
"Hey, um, I don't mean to be rude but how um, how can you afford all of this?"
"Uh, it-it's nothing to worry about love"
"Spike, this is so incredibly sweet of you but you don't have to do this" You gestured to all of the bags.
"You deserve to be treated better, so I am, treatin' you better"
"I don't care about all of this stuff, okay, maybe the jeans but-"
"Love, would you just stop worrying and enjoy it?"
"I just don't want you going into debt because of me, the only thing I want is you"
Spike sighed defeatedly as he stepped closer to you. He put your hands on his shoulders and rested his on your hips. He stared deeply into your eyes and spoke with a worrying tone.
"I guess I was gonna have to tell you sooner or later, I was just hoping for later, much later"
"Spike, what is it?"
"Promise you won't get mad?"
"What did you do?"
"Promise?"
"Spit it out, Idol"
"I've been working for Angel for a few months now, he pays well and I wanted to take you out"
You froze for a moment and his mind raced.
"Are you mad?"
"You son of a bitch!" Your voice wasn't quite filled with rage and you didn't quite yell but you were loud. You brought one of your hands down from his shoulders and punched him in the chest. Not too hard but enought that he pushed back a little.
"I'm sorry love, I di-"
"You've been working for Captain Hair-gel?! That's it?! I thought you were gonna say you were cheating on me!"
"I'd never! I love you to bits"
"You are a deeply frustrating man some days. But for some reason I love you too"
Spike smiled and pulled you into a tight hug.
"So you're not mad?"
"At the Angel thing? No. At the way you told me? A little" You chuckled lightly as you spoke so Spike knew you were just teasing him.
You started to walk down the path again when you look to him with a mischevious grin.
"So" You started, a certain gleam in your eyes that Spike knew too well "Does that make you Angel's bitch?"
"Oi! Watch it love!"
"Hey, I'm not the one who's working for my sire-in-law"
"That's not a thing"
"Well it should be, makes more sense than your sire's sire"
"Guess it does, I'll bring it up at the weekly meeting"
"You will?"
"Of course not you silly thing" Spike laughed and you hit him again, much lighter this time.
"Oi, watch it" You mimicked back to him "It won't be easy to find someone else as tolerant as me"
"Tolerant?"
"Yeah, tolerant"
"Tolerant of what? Don't forget, I'm the one feeding your little shopping addiction, which, by the way, is slightly frightening"
"Aw, my big bad vampire's scared"
"I said frightening, not scared, it takes a lot more to scare me than that"
"Yeah, like going a week without seeing Angel" You half muttered.
"Do you wanna say that again?"
"Gladly" You smirked.
Spike shook his head with a smile "What am I gonna do with you?"
"Hopefully take me home so I can thank you for all of this"
hi maybe human/non-spider chubby!reader headcanons with mig? more for when they’re getting to know him at the society? Thanks so much!
hey love!! I’ll write some fluff in this case :^) (gn!reader; super super fluffy)
first time he sees you, he honestly doesn’t notice you much because you’re some random human they brought in for a tech collaboration to improve spider-tech.
he’s not one for socializing—always on a mission and trying to get shit done since everyone else is busy fucking off.
it’s not until you approach him while he’s sitting alone one day and ask to sit w/ him at lunch that he really noticed you. you’re... kinda cute. oh, you just smiled at him. ok, you’re very cute.
and you’re kind. he sees you a lot, taking care of mayday when Peter has to run off and take care of impromptu spider-missions, just chatting to other spider-people and making them smile. you’re so sweet. Miguel hasn’t felt any semblance of romantic attraction in years.
he definitely struggles w/ these feelings at first. never shows that he is, but is more intentional about keeping his distance. you, of course, are hurt because you have no idea what you did to upset him. Peter assures you Miguel is just Like That but you don’t buy it.
so one day you approach him and ask him if you did something wrong. he’s taken aback, but then shakes his head and tries to walk off. you follow closely behind before you gently grab his hand and make him face you. this ache in his chest... it’s so familiar.
he quickly pulls his hand away and walks off. he ignores you for the next few weeks until lyla talks some sense into him. “you’re mad because... theyre nice? I will never understand human romance.”
“no, lyla, I’m not mad because theyre nice. theyre a distraction—one I don’t have time for.”
“pretty sure you do. your schedule is clear for the rest of the day. go talk to them!”
Miguel actually does not, but Peter dumps mayday in Miguel’s arms, talking about how he has to go “take care of something”, only for him to realize that Peter had also told you to look after mayday, so both you and Miguel end up in the same place.
Miguel cant run away, either, because mayday is nestled in his hair. you laugh and gently pluck her into your arms, cradling her as she giggles. she takes Miguel’s pointer finger and squeezes it tight, shaking it back and forth.
Miguel imagines you with gabi, and it fucking kills him inside. but he also imagines that gabi would want him to be happy. so he lets himself stay a little longer and chat w/ u.
he starts paying attention to all the things he didn’t let himself look at before—how soft you look. every part of you—your cheeks, your arms, your stomach, your thighs. you’re precious. he feels the urge to... hug you. to protect you.
you notice he seems to be troubled so you gently place a hand on his—“how about we play a game w/ mayday, Miguel?” and he finds himself nodding.
INTO THE RELATIONSHIP HC:
Miguel strikes me as the type of person who would forget to eat a lot. he’s a busy man and I don’t think he’d really keep track of meals and such.
you, however, are not ok w/ that. you always make him sit down and eat together whenever possible. if Miguel’s on a mission, you’ll cook him a meal and sit and wait for him to come back for hours, sometimes even falling asleep at the table.
when Miguel comes back and sees you asleep, he just lets out a soft sigh and picks you up, trying to bring you back to your shared bed, but you just nuzzle into him and mumble, “did you like it?” and he’s like “I haven’t eaten yet, baby.” and you gently push his chest and whisper, “go eat. I’ll sit w/ u.”
Miguel almost laughs because you’re literally half asleep but he compromises since you’re so insistent and lets you lay down on the couch while he sits beside you and eats. you fall asleep w/ your head on his thigh and him stroking your hair.
Request: By me. I just thought it would be funny. Reader has mentioned they have magic skills that people made them embarrassed of in the past and Angel is willing to support you.
A/n: I will write more requests. I will write more requests. I will write more requests. xo
You had been dating Angel for exactly one hour and fifteen minutes. Officially, that is. You had been spending a lot of time together in the last year and got very close but he had a lot of baggage from his past relationships and so had wanted to take things very slowly. You were just happy to share your time with him, he could take things all in his own time. He knew this, that was why he had wanted to make it official. You were so understanding and kind he didn’t know what to do with himself around you.
He had never loved someone so much. Every moment with you was his perfect happiness. Luckily after a recent apocalypse he had proved himself and was no longer cursed in such a way.
You knew a lot about him, when you had first met he had rarely spoken unless you had asked about a million questions to try and get him to tell you about his day. Once you revealed that you were very good at magic, although you had always been slightly embarrassed to admit this to potential partners (for some reason you had lost a few to your skills), he started to talk more about what he deals with on a daily basis.
It was a surprise at first, Hellmouths and vampires and the like but you didn’t show it on your face. You really liked him and you didn’t want to think that you couldn’t keep up with his (very active) days. You learned all about his past lovers and you told him about your past too. You loved him, and nothing could ever change that.
It was the first time either of you had felt safe and secure with another. Wholly and completely.
That was why you finally asked if he wanted to watch you do some magic. He nodded, wrapping a hand around your waist and pressing the softest kiss against your temple. He knew that this had been a sore point for you and he whispered how lucky he felt that you wanted to share this with him. You glowed at his words, you couldn’t help it. Your face beaming at the tenderness with which he touched you. As if you were made from the most precious stone.
“Okay, uh, I just need to go and get a few things. I’ll be back” You explained, Angel nodded knowing that there was usually all manner of newt eyes and salamander eggs that needed to be obtained to pull off a successful spell.
When you returned, Angel was sat on the sofa in his penthouse, looking a little bemused at your new attire. It was only a cape, God, why was he staring at it as if it were an alien?
You set your items down with a flourish and ran up to him. You quickly took a coin from behind his ear, and gifted it to him. Telling him not to spend it all at once. He stared, a confused frown on his face as he stared down at the coin in his palm. You smiled at him and he smiled back, still looking a little lost from his seat as you continued with your act.
“And for my next trick-!” You grinned, shuffling some playing cards and offering him the deck. He cut it and selected a card, checking it discreetly before returning it to the pack. You shuffled again and after a little speech, you produced his card and he nodded his appreciation.
You did a few illusions for him involving a mirror and a desk lamp when you noticed his expression. You paused, surprised. He had started chuckling. At first he tried to swallow it down, hide it by pretending he was coughing. But soon he was full on bursting with laughter.
His face lit up, you had never seen him laugh like that and it was nice to see his face brightened by smiling so much. But you couldn’t appreciate it very much seeing as it was at your expense. When he saw the pain on your face he stopped immediately, or well, he tried his best anyway.
“Hey, hey, don’t be upset, huh?”
“You’re laughing! I told you how embarrassed I had been made to feel in the past” You frowned, trying to will the tears not to fall. Angel bit another smile from his face, trying so hard not to make you upset anymore.
“Can, uh, can you saw people in half?” He aimed to try and show interest but it definitely felt like he was mocking you.
“Never tried it, but I’m one step away from it right now if you don’t stop laughing at me!”
“I’m- I’m – not!” He shook his head vigorously but it seemed like he was messing with you again.
“You are!” You insisted. And he was but not because he thought it was a lame hobby or stupid to spend your time on. But because he had thought you practiced the kind of magic that Willow did. He had just been taken off-guard and for some reason it had tickled him.
“Your magic was really good, I’ve never seen someone do that so well. Honest. I just, uh, well, I didn’t realise you meant the magic circle kinda magic. I thought you meant spells and witches brews, y’know?”
“Oh… Oh! That makes a lot of sense. Uh, sorry to disappoint” You said sheepishly, untying the cloak and allowing it to slide from your shoulders.
“I prefer it” He insisted, pulling you back to face him and pulling the cloak back onto your shoulders.
“Don’t patronise me, Angel, you thought I was all powerful and that’s why you were dating me”
“Y/n, I really like you. I would never have asked you to be mine if I didn’t. This thing that we have, it has nothing to do with magic. It’s just you and me” He meant every word. The meaning of his words were evident without you having any magical intuition to confirm it. He took your chin between his thumb and forefinger, so that you would look at him properly. His touch tender and a calming influence on your mood.
“Well, I really like you too” You said quietly, his entire body was able to relax. He was tense, worried that he had really hurt you. He moved in and landed a quick kiss to seal the words before you
“I’m sorry for upsetting you” He felt like he had to repeat himself, ensuring you knew that if he hurt you in any way, even in something small it would hurt him just as deeply.
“I get it now! Don’t worry and please don’t brood for the rest of the night. I have some plans on how you can make it all up to me” You smiled suggestively and raised your eyebrows at him.
“Oh, yeah?” Angel smirked slightly, the corners of his mouth were devilish when he looked that way.
“Yep, I’m gonna need a glamorous assistant for the rest of my act!”
“Wh-?” He was about to protest but the look on your face made him soften. This was something you were really passionate about and even though it was all new to him, he made sure he showed you how enthusiastic he was.
“I need you to source me a top hat and a rabbit. Preferably a fluffy one”
He shook his head as he walked away, taking your request seriously. He would do it. For you. He refused point blank at the feather-boa but he did graciously learn everything you taught him and helped where he could.
You pressed a kiss against his lips and thanked him for helping. He really was the best boyfriend around. And hey, you had got a new pet rabbit out of the arrangement too.
I want to dedicate it to @prose-for-hire thank you for being awesome! I love your works!

Imagine being a plus size and hiding your feelings from Lorne.
You refused to sing for him. Each time you manage to come up with an excuse or a reason (some were better than others). And he accepted it every time, brushed it off and let go of this topic for a while, pretending to forget all about it, but after some time asked you again.
Once, before you met Angel and the team, and fell in love with an alien (or so you thought) with powers of learning your deepest thoughts and feelings when you sing, you used to humm or sing quietly all the time. It was therapeutic for some reason, a harmless habit many possess.
But you had to make an effort to break this habit after you have realised that you fell in love with Lorne. And honestly how could you not? The Host was… as bright as the sun. His smile lightened up not only the room he was in, but people he was with as well. He always knew what to say, deeply cared about his friends and even about the customers. It was predictable, honestly.
You were so deep in your insecurities, the scene of your last disastrous confession played before your eyes every time you wanted to tell Lorne about your feelings. So you stay silent. In many ways, being afraid to even humm in the wrong way.
But you knew you couldn't control it forever, you loved music and it was rather unnatural for you to work in silence or not sing along to the radio. So one day your guard slipped up. You were searching your little library for the sigil that Cordelia saw in her visions, when you recognised your favorite song that came through the speakers of the radio.
And automatically, without a second thought, you quietly purred along. Naturally your thought returned to your beloved demon and your sweet conversation you’ve had this morning. He called you pretty today. It was not out of character for Lorne, he was always nice to you, and although you knew it meant nothing, you still found yourself imagining what it would be like if he meant it. You didn’t notice when you started to sing out loud.
And of course being so far away mentally you didn’t notice quiet footsteps and a soft gasp.

Cordelia's latest vision was particularly disturbing. She saw a man, a man with a family, stab himself in the eye. There was blood everywhere and her vision hangover was worse than you had ever seen. He headaches lasted for hours and you were pretty sure they weren't over yet.
You, Cordelia, Angel, Wesley and Gunn all did the best you could to find out what was happening but the bits and pieces from Cordy's vision weren't enough. You did everything you could, you tried your best but you all conceded that the dreaded moment had come. There was absolutely no other way around it, you looked.
You had to go to the karaoke bar and Angel had to sing.
As you walked into Caritas your ears picked up a beautiful voice and your eyes followed to the stage. There sat that bastard. The one your best vampire buddy had a personal vendatta for. You weren't sure if you wanted to get Angel as far away from him as possible or let him lose. The former was probably the smartest choice, especially due to the spell Lorne had on the place. You turned quickly and placed yourself infront of Angel, blocking him from seeing Lindsey.
"Hey, why don't we um, come back later?"
"Why? We're here now and-is this about my singing? It's not that bad"
"One, yes it is, two, can we just go? I think I found something at, um, at the hotel! There was some article and-"
"Is that, Lindsey? Singing?"
Son of a bitch.
"Wow" Cordy said with amazement "He's wonderful"
"Awful" Angel said in unison.
"What're you talking about? He has the voice of-" Cordy was cut off by Wesley's elbow to her ribs.
"The voice of a what?" Angel said, more than slightly annoyed "An angel? Please"
"Well, she does have a point" Welsey spoke quietly.
"What can I say man, evil lawyer dude can sing" Gunn interjected.
Angel scoffed "I can't believe you guys" He turned to you "You're with me right?"
"Um, well-"
"You're kidding! Lindsey can't sing that well"
Just then, who walked up but the host himself.
"Hey kids! Ain't he great?" Lorne exclaimed, gesturing to Lindsey.
"No, he's not" Angel bit back.
"Whoa tiger, who bit you in the ass?"
"Him" You answered for Angel as you nodded to Lindsey.
"Him? Really? Aren't you a big bad vampire, angel cakes?"
"Look it's a long story, can we just get on with this?"
"In a minute"
"Really? We're waiting for Lindsey?"
"Stop acting like a child" You scolded him without your eyes leaving the stage for a second.
"I'm not-"
"Angel" You warned.
Everyone watched and listened until Lindsey's song ended, then demons and humans alike burst into a wave of cheers and applause with Angel stood there rolling his eyes.
"Now can we get on with it?"
"We can't sing after than" Cordelia half whispered to Lorne.
"You won't have to" He replied before walking off to greet Lindsey.
"He wasn't that good" Angel grumbled.
"You're immature" You turned to the vampire beside you "Look, I get the whole arch nemesis thing or whatever the hell you two have going on but can you cool it for a minute? It looks like Lorne thinks he'll be useful"
"Lindsey? Useful?"
"Well he sure has a set of pipes" Gunn added.
"He really was terrific" Welsey noted.
Lorne guided Lindsey over to the group and Cordelia walked up to him, complimenting him in way you hadn't seen her act since Sunnydale.
"Lindsey" You took a step closer to him "Nice job up there"
"Is everyone drunk?" Angel blurted out.
"What the hell is he doing here?" Lindsey asked, annoyed and ready to fight at just the meer sight of Angel.
"Children, calm down" Lorne began explaining why he had brought you all together.
Lindsey discarded his glass on the bar and brushed past Angel with a threat and a scowl.
"So" You started "Looks like there's not gonna be a buddy cop movie anytime in the near future"
"We don't need to work with him, we just need to find out who has hand belonged to" Angel observed while picking up Lindsey's glass and eyeing up the fingerprints.
Angel came through the hotel door holding a file and explained who Lindsey's hand belonged to. You narrowed your eyes at him, knowing full well that he couldn't have gotten into the NCIC without Kate.
"Hey" You nodded to the vampire in question "PI?"
"Wh-no, h-how'd you know?"
"Only way I can see to get that kind of info without a cop on your side"
"Damn it, I hate it when you're smart"
"You must live a terrible existence then" You smirked at him.
"Hey" Gunn interrupted the two of you "Can you guys flirt later, we got a handless guy to find"
"We-we weren't-no-"
"Me? And him? No, that's not-no"
"Okay, whatever. So he goes to jail, they wait for him to get out, then, whack! Wolfram and Hart gives his hand to Lindsey. I guess they really wanna give that boy everything"
"Alright" Angel started "We'll find the parole officer" He gestured to you and you walked out the door together.
"Of course they will" Cordelia murmured.
"What exactly do you mean?" Wesley asked.
"Oh please. Don't tell me you don't see it"
"See what?"
"Come on man" Gunn said "Those two? You really don't see it, do you?"
"I don't know what you're talking about"
"Angel! And his sidekick" Cordelia exclaimed.
"That's not nice, I wouldn't exactly say sidekick"
"Well, aren't they always by his side, and often kicking?"
"I suppose, but I don't know what you're insinuating"
"Man, you really are blind" Gunn said with a shake of his head.
"Wait, are you saying that Angel, and, are an item?"
"Finally!" Cordy yelled "Not exactly, but close enough"
"Now what do you mean by that?"
Cordy groaned and let her head fall to the table.
"What she means is, those two idiots have been in love for God knows how long but they won't admit it"
"Oh" Wesley realised "I see"
"Took you long enough" Cordelia grumbled.
You and Angel approached the parole officer's apartment when his hand flew out infront of you, stopping you cold in your tracks.
"What is it?" You asked.
"There's something going on inside, I think I can hear Lindsey"
"Hm" You laughed "Gotta love that sonar"
"It's not sonar"
"You can hear things that no human can, kinda like bats, and they have sonar, case and point blood boy"
"You really gotta stop calling me that, especially when we're around regular people"
"Maybe but, it's more fun if I don't"
"Come on, let's go save Lindsey's ass so I can kick it again later"
The two of you slowly made your way up to the window when you saw the parole officer with a gun to Lindsey's head. You handed Angel a nearby trash can and he threw it through the window, startling the man. He put Lindsey in a headlock and came over to the window, muttering something about Angel's "buddy". You quickly wrapped a cord around the man's neck and pulled it tight, clearing not tight enough for your undead friend as he took the cord from your hands and squeezed a little tighter.
"What are you doing here?" Lindsey yelled.
"Gee, I don't know" Angel answered "Saving your life?"
Lindsey waved the gun around while he said "I don't need you saving my life!"
"Kinda looks like you do sweetie" You replied.
"Yeah, a little gratitude, Lindsey, goes a long way"
"You two, you got no business-why aren't you trying to kill me?"
"We have very busy lives dear" You smiled.
"Yeah, excuse us, we're on a case here, Lindsey. Does everything always have to be about killing you all the time?" Angel replied, tugging the cord a little tighter.
"I-I can see you guys got issues, so, I'll just-" The parole officer tried to say before Angel pulled him back.
"That's my lead! You're choking my lead!"
"That's my lead, my lead!" Angel mocked him "What're we on the schoolyard round here?"
"Well it doesn't help that you're doing a bad job dear, if you let me do it I could choke him properly" You said.
"Properly? What's wrong with the way I choke people?"
"Nothing, not if you want them to escape"
"I don't want him to escape, I just wanna make sure he breathes so he can tell us what we need to know. You barely let them get any air"
"I do too, I just, like to relieve a little stress while I do it"
"Yeah and that stress is what nearly killed the last guy, which is why I'm on choking duty now"
"Do you realise how messed up our lives are that we have a 'choking duty'?"
"I mean, it's not an official thing…"
"Would you two shut up!" Lindsey burst out, still waving the gun.
"Alright look" Angel said to the parole officer "I'm gonna loosen the rope and you're gonna tell us all about Bradley Scott"
"Who?" Lindsey asked.
"The previous owner of your shiny new hand, might wanna listen up" You explained.
"Don't tell me what do to!"
"Don't talk to them like that!" Angel mimicked Lindsey's tone.
"I fight my own battles, blood boy"
"What?" The man asked as he gasped for air.
"Damn it, now you ruined my big reveal" Angel complained as he turned face to face with the parole officer, well, face to bumpy, fangy face.
"Drama queen" You muttered under your breath.
"Mm, can't you just taste that butter fat?"
"You are really gross, you know that?" Lindsey replied.
"Yeah, gotta side with the evil country lawyer on this one"
"Ah! Okay, I'll tell you, I'll tell you!" The parole officer cried.
"Hm, and we were just starting to get along" You gestured to Lindsey.
"We weren't getting along" He scowled.
"Killjoy"
"Are we gonna get those answers?" Angel asked, tightening the rope.
"Scott stole some bearer bonds. Went to jail. When he got paroled, Wolfram and Hart had him assigned to me"
"According to your file you said he was a no-show but you saw him, didn't you?"
"Just once"
"You took him to Fairfield Clinic?" Lindsey interjected.
"I didn't take him there, just some address. I dunno what they do there and I don't wanna know"
"Alright" You started "Looks like we're going to 'some address' next then"
"Okay" You said from that backseat "You two done with your touchy feely crap? Cause I really wanna kick some asses"
"Yeah, let's go" Angel replied.
He walked around the car and opened the trunk. He held the parole officer up and he recognized the travel agent across the street. Angel closed the trunk again and you walked over to the building.
"If this place is owned by Wolfram and Hart, it'd have damn good security" You mused.
"I'll need my laptop" Lindsey said. Well, he said more tech crap before that but it was just gibberish to you "To hack into the system?"
"That seems like a big hassle"
"Can't we just fight?" Angel asked before throwing his axe through the window, decision already made.
The three of you were greeted with only a few guards, surprising you. You took them down in a couple of seconds before Angel noticed the hollow floor beneath you. You walked down the stairs, full-on creepy basement style and walked into a room full of people in some kind of stasis chambers. Some of them just scrap parts. You noticed a symbol painted on the wall above you and you tapped Angel's arm.
"Pockla" You said as you pointed up.
"Who are they?" Lindsey asked.
"Demon healers, regenerate flesh"
"Guess what's why some of the transplants aren't taking" Angel stated.
Lindsey walked over to a hand missing his right hand.
"That name didn't click before but, I know him. We used to work in the mailroom together. Brad"
"Kill" The man croaked out through his oxegyn mask.
"Kill who? Who do you want to kill?"
"Kill me. Please"
You had seen a lot of terrible things before but this was rough. You couldn't imagine the type of pain he was living in, just his existence was awful.
"What do I do?" Lindsey turned to you and Angel.
"Whatever you do, it has to be your decision" You said softly "But it's gotta be quick, they'll be coming and they won't be as easy to get rid of as those guards upstairs"
Angel quickly ripped the curtains off the walls and handed some to you "We gotta help as many as we can, fast"
You both ran over to the stasis chambers and broke the glass, helping whoever you could out and wrapping them in the material. You ushered them up the stairs and to safety while Angel stayed in the basement. You rushed back down and saw him turning gas tanks and lighting a piece of paper on fire. He dropped it and turned to see you.
"Run!"
You ran as fast as your legs would carry you but it wasn't enough, you were too slow. Angel looked behind him and saw you falling behind. He rushed back and picked you up, he burst through the door and into the street before the building exploded. The blast knocked you both over and you tumbled as you hid the road. Your skin scraped against the hard tar beneath you and fragments of glass flew at your back. Your vision turned to double and you could hear a high pitched ringing in your ears. You tried to push yourself to stand but you couldn't even sit up. Angel saw. He ignored the glass sticking out of him and hurried to your side. He saw your eyes close for what he feared may be the last time.
Your eyes fluttered open and spot a large figure sat beside you. For a moment, all you could see was a dark blur until your vision cleared and you recognised Angel.
"Hey" He said softly "How're you doing?"
"Um, okay, I-I think. I don't really know what happened"
"There was an explosion. No one got hurt, except you"
You could see a piece of white cloth peeking out from under his collar and you clocked him immediately.
"You're lying"
"No I'm not"
"Yes you are, I always know when you're lying"
"How?"
"Okay, that may have been a lie. But I know you're lying now, I can see the bandage"
"It's nothing, just a bit of glass. Cordy insisted on it, you know you can't really say 'no' to her"
"That's true"
A comfortable silence fell between you when you noticed your hand in his.
"Angel?"
"Yeah?"
"You okay?"
"Wh-me? Why would you ask about me, you just got blown up"
"So did you"
"But I'm a vampire, it doesn't hurt for me like it does for you"
"But it still hurts, I can see it. You pretend that it doesn't affect you, you act like it never gets to you and you don't care but I know it does, I know you do care"
He doesn't speak, he just squeezes your hand a little tighter in his.
"What happened?"
"I um, I got a shard of glass in my back. Ruined my favourite coat" He held up his leather jacket and you could see through the large tear in its back.
"Maybe that's a good thing" You laughed lightly.
"Good thi-what do you mean 'good thing'? My coats are cool"
"Mmm" You hummed in disagreement.
"They are cool" He mumbled, making you laugh a little hard than you should as you winced with pain.
He stood up, his hands hovering over you, not sure what to do but wanting to do something.
"No, no, 's okay. I just shouldn't laugh for a bit" You said through slightly gritted teeth.
"It's not okay" He said quietly, probably more to himself than you "I should have protected you"
"I'm an adult Angel, I can protect myself"
"But you shouldn't have to, it's my job"
"Well that's funny because I don't remember you applying"
"I just mean-" He looked down, his eyes couldn't meet you while he spoke "I care about you, a lot, and I don't want you getting hurt"
"I care about you too sweetie but it's part of the gig, can't fight evil without getting knocked around a little"
"I know, it's just, I hate seeing you hurt"
"I don't much like it myself"
"Okay, just along as we're on the same page, you're gonna stop getting hurt, yeah?"
"Only if you do dear"
He smiled, that simple happy grin that always managed to make you smile too, every time. His thumb brushed across the back of your hand and you were both painfully aware that he was still holding it. He dropped your hand like it was made of fire and stepped back awkwardly.
"I-um, I didn't mean, I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
"Angel"
"Mhm?"
"Come here"
You didn't know why you had this sudden burst of confidence, you didn't care, yu were just happy you did. He stepped closer to you and you leaned up. Your hand came up to cup his cheek and you pulled him down. His lips brushed against yours gently, like he was afraid any more would hurt you, or possibly him. You deepened the kiss and he gave in, leaning into it fully just before you pulled away.
"Sorry sweetheart, I still have to breathe"
He chuckled lightly and pressed his forehead to yours "Been wanting to do that for a long time"
