BYD Atto 1: The City EV That’s Taking Indonesia by Storm Introduction In October 2025, a remarkable shift occurred in Indonesia’s automotive landscape: the BYD Atto 1, a compact electric vehicle (EV), climbed to the top of the sales charts. With 9,396 units wholesaled — beating even traditional gas-powered champions — the Atto 1 didn’t just make waves; it made history. This unexpected success signals more than a temporary trend — it marks a turning point in how Indonesians view and adopt EVs. A Breakout Launch: Why Atto 1 Exploded Onto the Market The BYD Atto 1’s rise is rooted in a few key factors. First, price accessibility: Atto 1 was launched at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in July 2025, with an on-the-road (OTR) Jakarta price of just Rp 195 million for the Dynamic version and Rp 235 million for the Premium. For an EV, particularly one backed by a brand like BYD, this pricing was explosively competitive. Second, its distribution ramp-up was lightning-fast. In its first month of major deliveries — October 2025 — BYD managed to wholesale 9,396 Atto 1 units to dealers across Indonesia. That number accounted for a staggering 88% of BYD’s total wholesale volume for that month, making Atto 1 the locomotive that powered BYD’s record performance. Design, Performance & Technical Specs Though compact, the Atto 1 is far from basic. According to BYD Indonesia, the car features a modern and dynamic “Ocean Nan” esthetic design. Key design elements include 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlamps with a “Double Slash” motif, and high-mounted LED brake lights — giving the Atto 1 a modern, sporty silhouette. Under the hood (or more accurately, under the floor), Atto 1 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor. It’s rated for 55 kW of power (or ~75 PS) and 135 Nm of torque — enough to deliver a brisk 0–50 km/h sprint in about 4.9 seconds, according to BYD. Battery & Range Dynamic (Standard): 30.08 kWh battery, claimed range of up to 300 km (NEDC). Premium (Extended): 38.88 kWh battery, with a range up to 380 km (NEDC). Importantly, both variants support fast DC charging: BYD reports that it can charge from 30% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes for both trims.
