Oh I'm so happy to see you trying your hand at the 5 Facts ask game! How about a literal red string AU: Buck, Tommy, or someone else has or acquires the power to see the invisible string between them/the invisible strings between people and seeing it damaged and in danger of breaking is what catalyzes events that lead to their reconciliation?

Hiii, thank you for the prompt <3 I do like soulmate aus, but I love them when choice is involved, so I'm trying to go for something like that.

1 - Immediate thought is that it would probably kill Tommy if he got the ability, so let's do it. I'm also going to add ghosts: Tommy gets visited by the ghost of Bobby one night - maybe he had a bad day at work, or there was a significant day he would have shared with Buck normally. He's lonely and sad, and maybe drank a bit too much and fell asleep outside. Bobby appears to him and tells him that he has to act. He explains that only few people have red strings or find their red string partner, and Bobby won't let "them" throw it away. When Tommy waked up, he sees the red string leading from his pinky finger to elsewhere. He can see parts where it looks like the string snapped and was re-braided and marked by soot and fire, and it looks frayed at the edges.

2 - First thing Tommy is: he's absolutely mortified. He immediately thinks of packing his bags and running away and never returning ever again. What the hell is this? He's a romantic, he knows about the red string of fate, but he never thought they were real and he also never thought he'd have one. And apparently he's destined for someone, and someone is destined for him, and that cannot be. There is no way Tommy Kinard is anyone's destiny. He's also afraid of finding out that the person on the other side is anyone other than Evan. But Tommy can't bring himself to try and see whether he can cut the string, so he mopes and tries to ignore it for a couple of days.

3 - Only, as if by actual fate, he runs into Evan on a call, and through the chaos of it all, he can see his string shorten and end on Evan's pinky. He feels relief, and then fear like never before. He wants to run but is frozen, and then Evan looks at him. For a moment, Tommy sees their string pull tight, and he feels gravity shift as if he's about to step forward. But then, he stops himself and looks away, convinced there is no way he should be Evan's fate. He doesn't notice then, but the string frays more in the middle.

4 - He's home alone, days later, and perhaps he's noticed that the string looks less vibrant and more like it's thinning, but he doesn't think much of it. He still hasn't tried to cut it, can't bring himself to, doesn't realize that soon, he won't need to. He plays around with it a little, because he's nothing if not a fidgeter, and wonders if he could pull Evan right to him should he pull too much. He lets go before he can test that theory, and that's when he finally notices something: more and larger black marks on the fading red string. Those weren't there before, and Tommy's theory for the others are the times either he or Evan almost died - factory explosion, gas leak, fire engine, lightning strike. There are parts of the string that are hard, and he wonders if its dried blood. What he knows is something is wrong, and he only notices he got up when he's already out the door, following his string that seems to be slowly burnt away.

5 - He's not part of it, he's a civilian, all things considered, when he arrives at the structure fire. The 118 is there, but Evan isn't, and while he doesn't approach them, he realizes that they don't know where Evan is. At this point, the string is- well, it's hanging on by a thread, with cinders and ash flaking off of it. But it's still there, and Tommy curses himself for ever thinking of cutting it. He uses what's left to find Evan, grips it in his hand and pulls, and it works. He runs into the building with no protective gear like a moron, but Evan meets him halfway, bleeding and leaning heavily on a piece of wood he's using as a cane. They drag each other out and collapse when they hit the cool air, and Tommy dreams of the string rotting away because he wasn't fast enough and Evan is dead, or Evan is finally leaving him behind. But when he wakes up, it's still there, looking a little less burnt but still like it's about to snap, and Tommy finally realizes what that means. He has his choice - leave it be and let it end, or actually do something about it. He does something about it.

Bonus 6 - He starts by visiting Evan at the hospital while he's still in there himself, driving the nurses crazy, but he'll do it all over again for the smile he gets from Evan. Evan is tired and dealing with smoke inhalation, a broken leg, and a couple of burns, but he's alive and smiling at Tommy and that's all that counts. They talk, and they find common ground. Tommy watches their string like a hawk as it basically puts itself back together, and tries not to panic over what almost was because he was too afraid. When Evan gets discharged, finally, Tommy brings him home, and then he kinda never leaves. He does tell Evan about it a while later, about seeing the string between them - now bright red and beautiful and healthy - and when he does, he stops seeing it. He doesn't need to see whether it's there, whether it's doing okay. He already knows.

"That's Regency," Gil said, trying not to look at the fourth wall. "And who gave you permission to turn on the Meta?"

"I did. Only my proper canon can contain me, and that's only because I like where our story is going." He piled an enormous powdered wig on his head. Gil just rolled his eyes and finished doing up the buttons on Tybee's elaborate ballgown.

"Ballgowns dont have cravats," he muttered. Tybee smiled.

"All the more inappropriate I have one then. Come on, show time."

911 prompt: there needs to be fic re: Tommy 'knows a guy' Kinard, plus I'm sure he's owed favours by half of LA, so special appearances of random celebs?

Hiii, thanks for the prompt :) Sorry for taking so long to answer. This is a fun concept. Just Tommy always having someone handy from doing favors in the past. It could honestly be so funny if the show did something like this, they could bring in actors for cameos and stuff. Gotta do everything ourselves here.

This is an AU where Bobby never died and instead retired, and Buck and Tommy got back together after the lab. Because I want happiness for a change.

1 - It's pretty tame, when the 118 realize just how many contacts Tommy really has, and how many favors he has to cash in on. They're planning a bbq together to celebrate Chimney becoming captain, and since Bobby is still recovering and Buck is in the middle of pursuing the Lieutenant's exam, so they decided to get catering. Only the caterer falls through the a couple days beforehand, so now, Hen and Buck are scrambling to find a replacement. In comes Tommy who mentions that one time, he helped out a private chef who also owns a catering business. He calls him up and asks him for help, and the guy squeezes them in easily.

2 - It continues- well, not small, per se, but small-ish. Jee watches Disney Princess movies whenever she can, and currently, she's obsessed with Tiana. And Tommy knows someone, because one of the actresses from Disney Land who plays Tiana owes him a favor from the time he bailed her out for something. So, Tommy arranges for Jee to meet her in full dress-up for a little one-on-one thing, and immediately becomes Jee's favorite person in the world.

3 - The third time it happens and Buck takes notice, it's actually for Buck, specifically. He's still cooking and baking, and there's a French pastry class nearby in LA that he would love to try out, but it's always booked out, no matter how hard he tries to get in. He runs around the station with his phone when the sign ups open, and he still doesn't get in. Cue Tommy, who is friends with one of the pastry chefs and saved his ass one time during a kitchen fire. He hits him up, and lo and behold, Buck gets into the class when someone else drops out. Buck can't put into words how grateful he is, because it was just a silly thing and Tommy could have surely used his favor up differently, but here he is, giving Buck the opportunity to fine-tune his craft (Tommy isn't fully altruistic, here. He wants to eat the pastries Buck is gonna make, after all).

4 - The fourth time isn't a happy occasion. After Bobby retired and Buck spent more time at his place to check in on him, he grew close to Harry, and Harry decided to become a firefighter. He was assigned to the 118, and Buck's been taking care of the probie. And Harry got hurt on a call for the first time - a beam collapsed on top of him. He's fine, got a concussion, but Buck is beating himself up about it, even when Harry gets discharged and is safe at home and vehemently does not blame Buck. Tommy decides it's time for a getaway. And he has a buddy who owns this exclusive cabin in the snow close to a resort where you can book activities and massages and all that jazz. It's normally booked out, but he owes Tommy for the work he'd done on said cabin, so Tommy and Buck get squeezed in for a week-long getaway of relaxation and fun.

5 - The fifth time is the biggest, probably most insane one. Tommy knows a lot of people, alright, even people who are a bit better known than the regular guy. But that didn't mean that Buck thought that Tommy knew celebrities, too. To be fair, they lived in LA. You fell on your face two times and met a celebrity. But Harrison Ford did not live in LA. Turned out, he enjoyed flying, and while Tommy was out and about in the states with a friend out his, the two of them met somehow. And that's how Tommy (and Buck by proxy, thank God) becomes Christopher's favorite guy again because despite getting older, Chris still loves Star Wars, so for his birthday, Tommy simply calls up his good buddy Harrison and arranges a meeting for Chris. He kept that little tidbit under wraps until that day, but once the cat is out of the bag, Tommy uses this moment to win any argument he ever has with Eddie after the fact.

Bonus 6 - Buck is terrified of who Tommy could reveal next who owes him a favor. But he's also incredibly excited.

How about a Love Island AU?

Maybe as part of a marketing strategy, the producers decide to bring regular (non influencers) people to the show. Maybe Buck joins post-Abby breakup or something and meets Tommy there ( I know Tommy's little old for Love Island but I'm choosing to ignore that).

They slowly get closer and fall in love and unbeknownst to them become the most talked about ship online.

Hello, friend! Thanks for the prompt, and I'm glad you liked the first one :) I'll be honest here, I had to look up Love Island because I never watched it, I hope I got the gist.

1 - As you suggested, this is early s2 Buck. It's at the point he has actively accepted that Abby isn't coming back, but he also doesn't feel like crashing on anyone's couch after moving out of her place. He wants to find love, and genuine connection, and the couple of dates he goes on from dating apps don't work out. The people he meets through work are interested in the firefighter, not anything else. And then, he finds out about the casting call for a bunch of super normal, every-day people for Love Island and decides, "Why the hell not?" He applies, and the producers like him because of his easy-going nature, his looks, his job, and also his past. He seems like an interesting candidate, so he gets casted.

2 - The place is gorgeous. Buck's been traveling for so long, and he missed it deeply and remembers why he loves it. And he also likes the people he meets. There's a bunch of them, some beautiful women and hot guys that Buck just has to ask about their gym routine. They're a mixed group of sexualities which Buck has no problem with, he's an ally after all, so there's a couple of same-sex-couples as well as straight ones. As they get to know each other, Buck meets another man from LA who is even a firefighter, too, Tommy Kinard who has huge arms and a kind smile. They hit it off, and Buck thinks that he at least already found a new friend here. And hey, Tommy was even at the 118 and knows Hen and Chim, so maybe there's a chance their new friendship can last beyond the show! He ends up coupling up with a girl he meets who seems very interested in his career, and he hopes this will work out better for him. He's not that interested in their every move being filmed, but hey, they'll be fine.

3- Things soon take a different direction for him, though. Sara, his partner, is cool and lovely and all that, but Buck finds himself in Tommy's presence more often than not. It's like he's seeking him out specifically, like a magnet is pulling him his way. Buck doesn't like the guy Tommy is with once he finds out Tommy is gay, and he feels awful about it. Why was he fine with Charlie when he thought he and Tommy were a friendly couple, but now that he know they're trying for love, Buck cannot stand to see them together? He doesn't understand himself, but he quickly realizes that all he wants is to spend time with Tommy. He likes him, likes his voice, likes the way he says Evan. So why is he being so weird about it?

4 - The producers are eating it up. They already know that this is going to be gold for them, and they decide to drive it up in editing, showing Buck's jealous glances whenever he sees Charlie and Tommy together, and even Tommy's longing glances in Buck's direction that Buck never notices. Buck and Sara try to make it work, but they soon realize that there's no real romantic chemistry between them. Sara thinks she already knows where it's going, but at this point, she's just watching it because it's funny. Buck seeks Tommy out whenever he can, and Tommy is always happy to see him, even if Charlie isn't. Tommy and Buck might not have many shared interests, Buck finds, but they fit together anyway. They can talk about their interests and the other will listen no matter how long it takes. They show vulnerability to each other - Tommy tells Buck of his family, and the army, and Buck tells Tommy of his parents and his sister, and then Tommy speaks about Abby, and then Buck talks about Abby and they have a fight. It's the dramatic thing that everyone was waiting for, the viewers are foaming at the mouth, and Buck's and Tommy's couples are at no risk of being voted out because everyone wants to see the two of them reconcile.

5 - Buck and Tommy are kind of forced to reconcile by the show, but they don't really notice that. They do talk things out, and Buck finally has his "aha-moment" as Tommy tells him about his experience hiding his sexuality and coming out. Things he describes remind Buck of himself even though he isn't actively hiding anything. Once they reconcile, they get back to their partners, and Buck wants nothing more than to hold Tommy's hand the way Charlie is. He and Tommy share some more quiet moments and talks and longing glances, until they are faced with the final decision to either stay with their partners or recouple. And Sara knows what Buck wants to do and asks him not to because she wants to win, but it goes in one ear, out the other. Buck wants to finish this thing with Tommy, and he wants to return to LA with Tommy, so that's what he tries. For a bit, he worries that Tommy won't want him and he read it wrong and Tommy just likes him as a friend, but those worries disappear when Tommy kisses him for the world to see.

Bonus 6 - Like Buck wanted, they return to LA together as boyfriends. They win the whole thing, obviously, being the fan-favorites with their dramatic change at the very end and their so-perfect-it-could-be-scripted fight. Buck gets a new apartment for himself, but he and Tommy spend most of their time together. One night, they get drunk and watch back their season, finally getting to see both sides of it. And then, they find out about viewer reaction and that #Tevan honest to God trended on the night they finally got together. Tommy has to stop Buck from going down a social media rabbit hole by thoroughly distracting him. Buck doesn't complain.

a swap au! buck's a firefighter pilot and tommy's just a regular firefighter at the 118. you can choose whether or not their ages are swapped too.

Hiiii 💜! Thank you so much for the prompt! This is so fun, I have so many different ideas for something like that, but I gotta stick to one, so here we go.

1 - I'm gonna stick with their ages, actually, and to their backstories, too (mostly). Tommy was a pilot in the army, and he joined the LAFD as a firefighter after that. He got to the 118 under Gerrard, but when Bobby came around, Tommy stuck around. He came out, fell in love, got his heart broken, grew very close to Hen and Chim. They're the dream-team-trio. Tommy stays the no-nonsense guy, tends to keep to himself, but he doesn't sugarcoat things. He calls Chim out from the get-go about his thing with Tatiana, asking whether Chim wants to end like Tommy almost did. He also clocks Bobby's past with alcohol almost immediately and stays professional but distant to him. He and Bobby have a fight about it at one point, and Tommy reveals that he knows about Bobby's problem because some of his behavior reminds Tommy of his dad. They grow close, and Tommy becomes Bobby's sponsor. It's healing to them both - Bobby has someone who understands him, and Tommy feels like he can actually help someone when he couldn't change his dad.

2 - Buck, on the other hand, left home the same way and ran around doing odd jobs. He gets a pilot's license along the way for commerical use at first, but when he comes to LA following Connor and he decides to join the LAFD, he realizes he has most of the qualifications for air ops. He doesn't think he'll get in as a rookie, but to his surprise, the 217 is interested in him. He goes through the rest of qualification and training, and joins the 217. He's young for a pilot, and some of his coworkers don't think he's got the stuff. He tries to prove himself, but his captain takes him aside before he can try some daredevil shit. He tells him he has talent, but in no certain terms that Cap has no use for him if he doesn't play by rules. Helicopters aren't kind to pilots, and Buck can't put his ego above lives. Buck decides to prove his worth by becoming the best of them all.

3 - Bobby also had his eyes on Buck before he decides to join air ops, and he jokingly complains to Tommy about it. Tommy does have some interest in that young pilot upstart because he still follows air ops. A part of him wants to return to the air, but he flies for fun on his days off, has a friend who lets him use his private helicopter. He knows that the 217's Cap would love to take him off the 118, but he likes it there. He and Bobby are close these days, and despite Bobby doing much better, Tommy wants to keep a closer eye on him for now. Buck on the other hand hears from his team about this army pilot guy that their Cap wants on the team, and feels put off and jealous despite never meeting him. That's his spot.

4 - A couple of weeks after that, there's a big fire, really big. Air ops are part of it, as are ground crew. They're working in shifts, all of them exhausted but they have to keep going. Tommy has a moment to remember wanting to meet the new pilot when he sees the 217 crew, but he has more important things to do than follow that line of thinking. He and Chim go up with one of Harbor's pilots who almost smokes more than the fire they're fighting, and a young probie with big blue eyes and an adorable birthmark who stutters through introducing himself as "Evan- Buck- Evan Buckley," to Tommy. They go up, the main pilot kind of talking down to Evan which irritates Tommy. It's only a routine flight to get a view of what's left to control, but in the middle of the air, the pilot suddenly starts choking on something and passes out - heart attack in the middle of the air. Evan is freaking out and calling mayday, but Tommy decides to help out. Together, they drag the guy back to Chim so he can do first aid, and Tommy climbs to the front, taking over together with Evan so they can bring the bird back to ground.

5 - Evan is a good pilot, but nervous under pressure and lets negative comments get to him. But he works wonderfully with Tommy, and they manage to get the bird and the guy down. Chim stabilizes him, and once they're down, a crew comes to take over. On the ground, there's a moment before Tommy and Evan are suddenly hugging as tightly as possible. Tommy's heart is pounding, with fear and adrenaline and exhiliration. Evan is talking a mile a minute, thanking Tommy for his help and telling him how cool he is, and asking whether Tommy can teach him his ways. While they're still hugging, Tommy asks Evan on a date, and he says yes. (It's only later that Buck realizes that it's actually a date, but by then Tommy has already kissed him and Buck won't complain a bit about what happened).

Bonus 6 - They do finally realize who the other is when they have their second date. Buck admits to Tommy that he got jealous, and Tommy teases him about it. Dating Evan, Tommy does actually open up a bit more and becomes more settled. Buck, too. In this verse, Buck also never dated Abby, so that whole thing never happens, and they live happily ever after. When, years down the line, they have to get Bobby and Athena from the sinking Uno, Buck and Tommy, once again, pilot the bird together.

A Bucktommy AU where Tommy was Taylor's pilot when she handled traffic reports, so that's how they met 👀

Heyyyo <3 Thank you for the prompt. I've seen some versions of this in the past and I loved them, I hope mine isn't too similar to the others. This kinda also became a Tommy-Taylor-friendship thing, but I gotta say, I wish they were actually friends on the show. I think they would be great.

1 - Tommy is friends with the guy who was Taylor's pilot first, but he comes down with a bad flu and asks Tommy to jump in for him. Tommy isn't with air ops yet (I don't care about the timeline, this is an AU), but he has his license, so he says yes and meets Taylor. They hate each other on sight at first, but on their first flight, Tommy keeps making sarcastic little comments under his breath that make Taylor smile, which evolves into them jokingly sniping at each other for the rest of the day. They become best friends after that, and Tommy flies her around whenever he can because he wants her to be safe. Taylor is the first person Tommy comes out to, listens to her when she tells him to finally go to air ops (as long as he can still sometimes jump in and fly her around) and he encourages her to pursue other things. He also tries to caution her - her ambition is admirable, but will end her up in trouble one day. Taylor rolls his eyes whenever he tells her that, muttering about big brothers she never asked for, but she does heed his advice. She doesn't sell herself short, but she also tries not to bite off more she can chew. And if she does, she always has Tommy to bail her out.

2 - The day Buck meets Taylor, he meets her and Tommy both because Tommy was the pilot. Buck is surprised when he arrives because Tommy has already started taking care of things and is ordering people around. Buck finds himself finding that hot, in the way he just thinks that people talking responsibility is hot. He stutters a bit when he meets Tommy and Taylor on the ground, and mistakes them as a couple at first. Buck is surprised when it turns out Hen and Chim know Tommy, and he feels a bit left out when they speak, so he ends up talking to Taylor. He mostly asks her questions about Tommy which makes her senses tingle, and she teases him a bit, but Buck doesn't notice. It's just interest because Tommy is really cool and confident and competent, nothing else.

3 - Taylor later tries to fish for information from Tommy, trying to figure out whether he's into Buck at all. Or Evan, as he introduced himself to Tommy despite telling Taylor to call him Buck. That made her eyebrows almost shoot off her face. But Tommy only saw Buck talk to Taylor the whole time, so while he thought he was cute and would love to take him out on a date, he thinks there's no chance for him there. Besides, he's gay, but Taylor's really pretty. So he isn't sure which guy would have eyes for anyone else but her. Only that Buck wasn't interested in her at all, Taylor reasons. All he wanted to know was Tommy, so she slipped Buck his number. Tommy is mortified, but Taylor brushes it off. Tells him to wait and see if anything even happens. And hey, if Buck is actually straight, then Tommy can give him Taylor's number instead. Dating him would probably not end well, but she wouldn't mind a hook-up or two.

4 - Tommy does get a text from Evan and immediately tells Taylor, which means he has to sit through her telling him that she told him so. Still, he tries to manage his expectations. Evan only asked for a tour, after all. Evan listens to him attentively and asks many questions, and he's so much more adorable up close. A bit green, Tommy realizes, but so cute and earnest, and seems to take being a firefighter so seriously. Tommy's in trouble. And then, Evan asks about how he met Taylor, and Tommy tells him the story, thinking this will be Evan's segue into asking whether Taylor is available. He tells Evan that she's Tommy's best friend, much to Evan's surprise. And yet, he doesn't ask for Taylor's number. Instead, he asks to buy Tommy a beer. And sure, why not. Why not get his hopes up more, what's the worst that could happen?

5 - They go out for dinner and a beer, and they have a lovely time. Evan seems nervous, and when asked, he tells Tommy that he doesn't know why. Tommy is unbelievably endeared by Evan's rambling and his enthusiasm for pretty much everything. They don't feel like parting ways after the dinner, so Tommy suggests taking a walk together. They do so, and continue to talk about their lives and jobs, and Tommy is so absolutely smitten with Evan that he finally finds the courage to take Evan's hand and pull him into a kiss. That's finally when Buck understands his reaction to Tommy, and stammers his way through an explanation that Tommy doesn't really understand. They end the night as boyfriends, that's all that counts.

Bonus 6 - Things are not smooth-sailing with anything. Tommy and Taylor have a major fight about the brownie day, worse than any of the others they've had, and Chim and Hen aren't exactly supportive with their comments, so Tommy fights with them, too. Buck in turn feels torn between two worlds, with leads to him and Tommy fighting, too, about many things (among that pasts/the Abby thing/etc). Taylor meets a downtrodden Buck in a bar and kinda rips him a new one. She's very protective of Tommy, and it doesn't matter that they're currently fighting. Same night, she comes over to Tommy's and they hug it out, and then Buck's there, and Taylor refuses to leave, so Buck and Tommy have their talk while she's chilling in Tommy's living room. They hash it out, and Taylor will casually remind them of her work getting them together whenever they get too cocky. It's alright, because Tommy returns the favor when he introduces Taylor to Lucy years later.
