In the sii au (au au) where Lute and Vaggie didnt run into a sugar mommy after five minutes and also lived longer than 10 minutes, what kinda work would they get to survive in Hell (im picturing them domestic in a sh tty apartment)
In the SII AU², huh? We are stacking layers of narrative here.
In the scenario in which Lute manages to drag them to relative safety and Vaggie employs half remembered first aid advice from Kitty, what jobs would our favorite angels end up with?
Lute: professional fighter (critically underpaid)
Vaggie: manager (also critically underpaid)
I hear you, random citizen, "well that sounds a bit extreme" you say like some simple goober. I am out here crafting narratives that only shrimp can see.
Vaggie is really the only one capable of work at the start, Lute is barely conscious and Vaggie is desperate to do whatever. We ain't doing some sad sex worker au, not my brand. My brand is Vaggie suffers Retail Hell because it was the only thing hiring. It fucking sucks but it puts food on the table and lands them an apartment slightly better than squatting in an abandoned warehouse that stinks of corpses.
Even when Lute starts to heal, she's obstinate about getting a job. Working for sinners? Insanity. She at least keeps the apartment fairly clean, does some chores, and... Tries to cook. Eventually Vaggie confronts her about it, Lute does feel guilty about not contributing, so Vaggie pulls some strings to get her a job at the same store... Unfortunately, Lute can't walk 20ft without getting into trouble. Their first day at the job, the building gets demolished in a turf war that ends with Lute killing the aggressors single handedly.
Naturally, both girls are fired but the fight was witnessed by an overlord who saw dollar signs (maybe Vox idk). The girls get an offer for Lute to compete in a fighting ring as her capacity for hyper violence is mega marketable. They are dubious but the offer is more than Vaggie was making before and it's not like they have a lot of options. Overlord didn't want to hire Vaggie but after a few days they learned the hard way that they are desperately in need of a full time Lute wrangler and Vaggie is the only person that Lute won't bite.
Professional fighting is something Lute is good at... But there are some issues. It's Hell. There are practically no rules and all fights are to the death. Death is a bit of a slap on the wrist for most fighters but Lute actually has her life on the line, which means Lute has to maintain a 100% win rate and Vaggie needs to put in a hell of a lot of work to make sure Lute has the equipment, training, and knowledge necessary to maintain that win rate.
Before you interrupt me and go 'oh T&A, you absolute Goon, you forgot that Angel blood would give them away.' I simply karate chop you in the trachea for interrupting me. At this point in the timeline, no one has ever seen an angel bleed. Except maybe Lucifer (missing in the SII timeline) or Lilith (doesn't watch sports) or maybe the Sins/Goetia (IDK either don't watch Sinner TV or don't care about some random fallen angel)... Don't bring the Captain into this, sit down. Point is, no one knows what Angel blood looks like, so most people shrug it off as some weird quirk of her sinner form. Alternatively, I flex Lute's badass skills even harder and she gets out of fights with little more than bruises. MOVING ON.
Anywho, the girls are still barely getting paid enough to get by because they refuse to accept higher paying deals that come with a soul contract and there is increasing pressure to have Lute throw a few fights. Guaranteed winners make for boring betting and the overlord wants to rig the pot for a big payout.. but Lute can't throw a fight because her honor won't allow it (also she will fucking DIE but that's a secondary concern). Vaggie suffers being caught between a stubborn fighter with no lives to spare and an increasingly insistent management that would probably get rather violent about them quitting.
... And yeah, that's a concept. Maybe the girls eventually get some help from an anonymous but very rich fan who thinks the angry fighter lady and her pretty manager are really cool and overheard that they're having a rough time and maaaaybe they need a new job at this really cool hotel.
