Crystal Purification
The acolyte stepped forward and picked up the crystal from the table. In his hands, he could feel a great weight... His task was to cleanse this crystal and make it pure again so that it would draw in the negative emotions that he kept within. The members of the Auchenai did this ritual routinely, though only if they were able to purify a crystal the first time. It was their rite of passage. He closed his eyes and focused, the dark matter within the crystal moving about.
Meanwhile in the Congregation, Corra was in the process of cleansing her own crystal of the negative emotions that had befallen her after her daughter had been stolen. She looked to the other acolytes for their aid with this, as the emotions were quite powerful and dark... Dark enough to drive most to a path that was quite unsavory.
Sun quieted down and watched with interest. His brother watched the flow of magic taking place, tenuously visible to his eyes. The acolyte strained a bit, the darkness slowly beginning to clear from the crystal. It took time, and patience, but before long it was a pure lavender color. He looked upon it and sighed contentedly. "I did it..."
"That was interesting to watch. What'd you purify from it? What's it do?"
"The emotions that can lead us down a dark path... A path of terror and fear. A path of-" There was a loud crash from within the Congregation, and some screaming from the halls. "What's going on?!" He put the crystal on and rushed out. Sun frowned and followed, his brother floating along behind.
Corra remained in the center of the circle, praying over her crystal, willing the darkness that had overtaken her shadowy self to disperse. The darkness that had driven her to harm another without a second thought. As she had done so, the dark had manifested itself... Or had it? In fact, what appeared to loom over her now was a creature of the Legion's design. Perhaps the thoughts that had passed through her mind earlier, and that were in turn taken into her crystal, were enough to beckon it forth. She prayed fervently, "Please... No more of this. I swore never to harm another... Never to fall into the hands of the Legion. Disperse... Disperse, you illusion of darkness..." Her voice trembled with uncertainty.
Sun skidded to a stop as he saw the apparition, arching his brows. "That... That can't be good." He looked to his twin. "Together?" "Right!" His twin merged with him as he ran off the edge, appearing behind Corra!
The creature looked upon Corra, Sun, and his brother, and laughed. "Puny Draenei... You think you and your friends can defeat me?" Corra continued to pray, though since the dark within her crystal had manifested itself, she now prayed for Sun's protection, and her own. One of the other soulpriests had managed to gather those that fled, urging them to continue chanting and praying to lend themselves to the priestess' cause.
"Heh... Negative emotions, right?" Sun bounced from one foot to the other like a boxer. "So does that mean you're afraid of happy thoughts? Scared of cute bunnies and pretty flowers, big guy?" It looked upon him with what seemed like a arched brow before spewing "fel fire" at him. As this was all an illusion created by negativity, it would only harm him if he didn't believe he could overcome it.
He hopped aside quickly, but the flames licked his ear. "Hmm?" He stopped and looked up at the manifestation. Sun grinned. "So what do you know of Corra, eh? Think she's weak and can't control you, right?" He laughed. "Bet you don't know how nice she is. She's pretty damn caring, you know that?"
"The priestess is weak! She would sooner hand herself over to my masters than let her other child die... Than leave someone she cares for unaided." It grinned and looked upon her. "She prays so fervently, and for what? Nothing but her own demise!" With the aid of the others, Corra's body slowly... Ever so slowly... Began to regain its holy glow.
"Caring doesn't make someone weak, idiot. You know how much work it is to care about someone? Hell, when I started giving a shit about people, it was exhausting! And she does it all the time!"
The apparition chuckled and laid its hand over Corra. "Ah, but her care for others... It is weakness for she would do anything for another! Even sacrifice herself..." Corra winced, the crystal hanging from her neck dark as pitch and threatening to crack.
Sun glared at the apparition and mumbled "Together? Together." He ran over and grabbed the crystal in his hand, channeling both his own and his brother's willpower into it. "Whatever, tall dark and ugly. You're outnumbered!"
The apparition howled as it was overcome by Sun and his brother, "No! You will suffer! All of you will suffer!" It had begun to disperse! Sun's grip was tight on the crystal, but the hand he laid on Corra's shoulder was gentle. "Life is suffering. What else is new? The difference is who suffers with you! Now go away!"
Her holy glow returned, shining brighter than ever before. The shadow dispersed, and the crystal in Sun's hand became just as pure as it had ever been... Crystal clear lavender. She opened her eyes and looked to the two with a soft smile. "I... I don't know how to thank you..."
