The sense we never think about until it's fading.
Hearing loss is quiet. It doesn't announce itself. You just start asking "what?" more often. Crowded rooms become exhausting. The TV volume slowly climbs from 12 to 18.
I got curious about why this happens and found something unsettling: the cochlea—the tiny, snail-shaped organ that turns sound waves into meaning—is incredibly vulnerable to oxidative damage. And once those hair cells are gone, they're gone. Most of us feed our auditory system absolutely nothing.
So I tested a liquid formula built to do exactly that. It's not ear drops. It's a systemic blend of grape seed extract, green tea, GABA, and other plant-based compounds designed to support microcirculation and protect against free radical damage.
I used it every morning for 60 days. The first two weeks? Nothing. By week six, I realized I wasn't straining as much in noisy cafés. It was subtle. It wasn't a cure. It was my auditory system finally getting the nutritional support it had been starved of.
The dropper bottle is a bit fiddly. And patience is non-negotiable. But for anyone wanting to be proactive about their hearing before problems become irreversible, the logic here is solid.
I unpacked the full ingredient science and my honest, week-by-week experience here:
Yesterday on a walk at a local park by me I could have sworn I heard a large cat growl.
Here are the circumstances I found myself in:
Was smoking weed about 5-10 minutes earlier
Hadn't ate much of anything
Did take antidepressants as directed that morning
I've had moments where I've thought I heard things before, but never something so identifiable. It was not a domestic cat noise, which I considered because we have many street cats near me. It genuinely struck fear into me and I turned around for the parking lot immediately. The trails are old wood floors and railings, over the trees and bushes, there used to be water but it dried up. I thought maybe, if something was there, it was under the wood walkway. It didn't sound like a dog, it was more of a roar than a growl. I had one ear bud in and I heard the noise in my open ear. The song I was listening to wouldn't have had any noise similar to what I heard anyway.
Near me the most wildlife I see is deer and racoons, I think I've heard of foxes in the area but I've never seen one in the nearly 2 decades I adventured the woods around the park. No bears, no mountain lions, nothing that should feasibly be able to make that sound.
I'm low-key afraid to go back to the park today. In situations where I'm not sure what I've experienced, I feel like there's no winning:
Either the scary thing I heard was real, which would suck if I went back today and got mauled by something.
Or
It was not real but seemed real enough to me in the moment to freak me out.
I've had a few moments in my adulthood where something similar happened. In my room in the middle of the night I heard a woman yell, not my grandmother down the hall. Like the roar, it sounded close, like in my ear. I had to wake up my grandmother just to make sure she was okay before I could try to go to sleep.
I'm not sure this is anything to get hung up over, but I do worry about my grip on reality and moments like these are very scary in that regard. I don't think it's to the point where it's affecting my everyday life, and it doesn't feel like enough of anything to bring to my therapists attention.
Not sure what my whole reason for this post is. Maybe just curious if anyone else has experienced moments like these?

Unlocking Tranquility: A Guide to SBaGen and Binaural Beats
Introduction: In the pursuit of mindfulness and mental well-being, SBaGen emerges as a potent tool, offering a gateway into the world of binaural beats. This post aims to demystify SBaGen, shedding light on its functionality and how it can be harnessed to create customized sonic experiences for enhanced relaxation and focus.
Understanding SBaGen: SBaGen, or the Sequencer for Binaural Beat Generation, is a powerful open-source software designed to create binaural beats in a flexible and customizable manner. Developed by Jim Peters, SBaGen enables users to craft their own unique auditory landscapes by manipulating frequencies, amplitudes, and durations.
Creating Personalized Sessions: One of the standout features of SBaGen is its ability to empower users to tailor their binaural beat sessions. Through a straightforward command-line interface or graphical user interface (GUI), individuals can define the frequency, duration, and intensity of the binaural beats, allowing for a truly customized sonic journey.
Brainwave Entrainment with SBaGen: Like other binaural beat generators, SBaGen capitalizes on the phenomenon of brainwave entrainment. By presenting the brain with two slightly different frequencies, it induces synchronization in brainwave patterns, potentially leading to states of relaxation, focus, and meditation.
Practical Tips for SBaGen Use: To maximize the benefits of SBaGen, consider investing in quality headphones to ensure an immersive experience. Experiment with different frequencies and session durations to find the combination that resonates with your goals, whether it's stress reduction, improved concentration, or deep relaxation.
Open-Source Community and Resources: Being an open-source tool, SBaGen boasts an active and supportive community. Online forums and documentation provide valuable insights, troubleshooting tips, and creative ideas for utilizing SBaGen to its fullest potential.
Integration with Meditation Practices: SBaGen seamlessly integrates with meditation practices, offering a dynamic audio backdrop for your mindfulness sessions. Whether you're a seasoned meditator or a beginner, the customizable nature of SBaGen makes it a versatile companion on your journey to inner tranquility.
Conclusion: As we navigate the intricate world of binaural beats, SBaGen emerges as a beacon of customization and control. The ability to craft your own sonic experience places the reins of relaxation and focus firmly in your hands.
Take the plunge into the realm of SBaGen, where the symphony of frequencies becomes a personalized melody for your mind.
