🎁 Our muses open presents together!

there are so many things in this world that rory has yet to catch with her sweating and nearly callused palms to hand over to augustus for his birthday, christmas, ANY OTHER DAY in general. it isn’t fair to the girl that her best friend doesn’t have all the good things he deserves. in a world infested with walkers, it’s a little more than difficult to try and make something like that happen. but she tries ; she hopes to god that augustus knows this. if he didn’t then rory will still love him. 

“so… your present…” there had been so many art stores that rory’s looted, with their neglected gift wrappers and ribbons and do-it-yourself glitter books. that’s where most of where rory got the idea. “there’s a lot more to it than just a jar and a sport equipment.” hints always excited people, didn’t it? and for one, rory’s best friend was by far the most excited of them all when it came to christmas in a zombified cheyenne. 

“i’ve tried to look everywhere for something you’d like,” he starts of bysaying, standing on the other side of their door as if he’s only here to peer in for a second. “it was hard, since there isn’t that much around anymore.” then she hears the thing and two pairs of eyes widen, with rory shifting to sit on her knees, more interest than ever. 

energetic ; rory has babysat for plenty of puppies but there’s not one that she remembers to be as spirited as this one. it runs past him, circling their room before it sits on a corner to contemplate something. what the meaning of christmas, perhaps. “i found him! he’s not sick or anything, i even asked other people about it! merry christmas, rory!” 

“how do i compete with that?” part disbelief, part amazement. she pushes the heavily decorated jar forward, a baseball bat ( the same one that she practically promised him months ago at that convenience store ) next to it. “so, when i was looting for some candles, i came upon sheets and sheets of paper. then i came to realize that i know my voice is starting to get super annoying to you probably so i decided to make you those little star things but also list down like, ten thousand reasons why i love you. some MAY be repeated, but know that it was intentional.” rory motioned for him to come closer, hands wide open as she always had since the beginning. “don’t … don’t start crying.” who is she kidding? it’s become kinda common for either one of them to start doing so. “i’ll give you a hug?” 

sure, things sucked ass and every survivor they met were at the ready to murder them for even staring but rory forgets this when she hugs augustus. her best friend, the one person that she’ll always protect. 

🏠 Our muses decorate the outside of the house! 

“is this okay?” augustus calls out, pointing at the lights wrapped around the christmas tree. rory thinks that this might be his first time decorating, let alone even celebrating christmas but she doesn’t ask any of this. questions like that bring terrible memories with the father who hurts him ; rory doesn’t want that, not now. 

she turns her head, wreath in her hands frozen in midair as she leans against the front door. “yeah, i think that’s perfect.” supportive as ever, even more bubbly. the wreath is left hanging on the door, “i can help you hang up stuff, too! i think it’ll look good — better than the neighbours, i bet.” 

“speaking of — how come you place your christmas tree outside?” this is when the curiosity takes over, amusing questions are asked and rory is left to stand next to him with a look of absolute adoration on her face. when does she not. 

“sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t. this year, we have two trees — so we figured that we’d make our house more christmas-y than the rest of the neighbourhood.” she passes along the box of ornaments for him to hang on the tree. “eva and i are very competitive when it comes to decorating. oh, have you seen the park? do you want to go sledding?” 

“won’t your aunt be worried if we leave without finishing this?” and there’s yet another thing that rory finds admirable about him. he’s known zia eva for a good day and at rory’s seemingly wayward proposal, he thinks of how eva would react. if only she was THAT considerate sometimes. 

the smile on her face is warm, perhaps enough for both of them to forget the bite of the cold winter air. “i promise we won’t be long. and if we are, then i’m sure eva won’t be so mad if we went out and enjoyed ourselves.” rory takes augustus’ arm, “so how about it? i’ll even show you a trick on how to beat the kids at who gets down to the bottom the fastest.”

     CANTANKEROUS BOY — accepts no limitations, will not be confined in the safety net no longer, not anymore, that is. Alejandro used to be the boy tied down to a place, settling his roots in the soil and refusing to leave when asked, but now Alejandro was the man who went where he wanted, followed the wind and where it took it. He was now a man of chance, though, needing CONTROL clearly being something of a sentiment to him. A contradiction, a paradox at best. Eyes that show all the dangers of the world but a mouth that speaks prophetic wonders of life. Master MANIPULATOR, has done things he’s not proud of, yet refuses to change. Stuck in the same pattern, the cantankerous boy walks alone on the empty streets of Cheyenne, early in the morning. 

     Alone and defeated is how you will find him. Without a purpose, without friends, Alejandro is completely alone. You may ask why and may look at the boy and see a kind and gentle soul. However, that is far from the truth. JUST BE YOURSELF and everyone will love you. It’s what his Mamá used to tell him. If only she could have known back then about the monster he would have become. The boy with a jawline so flawlessly chiseled, eyes so dark you’d think he was the devil harbored a secret past filled with restraints and a mountain of pills with names he never learned to pronounce. Sounds of boots impacting the ground with every step provided a soothing noise for Alejandro. It was easy to get lost in it, far too easy. Slowly and in a pleasing way, another set of footsteps joined his and the chorus of sounds finally began. Though, Alejandro remained silent, careful to not disturb the rhythm.

     Never has Andre ever looked at a person and automatically regarded them as anything less then wonderful, amazing. Even during the time he was involved in gang activity, he was always one to see the good in people. Not to say that he’s an optimist, but he always knew that people were never completely evil or terrible. Amir was no exception to this thought. When he thinks of Amir, he thinks of a wonderful and brave man. He’s never heard his life story or reached anything beyond the surface, but Andre knows that there’s greatness within Amir. When the man is acting cold or distant, Andre is just reminded that everyone has a past and everyone has had suffering in their lives. With this in mind, he senses a deep despondency within the younger man and overall, finds him to be a very respectable figure for going through life for so long and being a survivor of it all.

💀 for what my muse would say upon hearing about your muse’s death.

               The world in which they lived was not for the kind of heart. It was not for those who allowed themselves to be who they are no matter how scared and vulnerable that might be. A feeling of his stomach turning and his face reddening was an uncommon thing for Noah. Death had become such a normality in today’s society the he had built up a wall that kept the sadness out for those around him. Of course, there were a few exceptions in which Noah made himself vulnerable enough to feel. Helena ( her full name had never been disclosed ) was an example of this. She was kind and soft and Noah liked that about her. Most people these days weren’t like that so she stuck out like a sore thumb. That is why when her death came to surface, Noah felt his heart drop way below his stomach. Knotted up emotions and queasy feelings resurfaced and he could feel an immense amount of pain hitting him with the velocity of a train. As he looked at the person who had told him, he envisioned a memory of her when the two had first met. The girl was far more scared than the usual and the way she begged Noah not to touch her made his heart melt. He hadn’t known her for long but her spirit and affect that she had in this world greatly impacted him. The only words that he could muster up were “Damn,” and even with that, it didn’t seem like enough. For him, finding the words to string together had never been such a difficult task. No locutions or remarks would ever be able to phrase the amount of pain he was feeling for the girl so he didn’t even try. He didn’t bother to speak more than he already had because if he did, that wouldn’t be enough.

               The shaking of hands and smiles were exchanged with a common currency in which everyone felt. Even if it was just for a day, there was a happy disposition that seemed to fill the air surrounding the little church. It was run down and dusty but that didn’t stop anyone from treating it as if it were brand new. Traditions like these were thought to be extinct and for most people, they were worthless. Moments in time that seemed to pause were a thing of the past and no one had ever bothered to revive them. Long since Noah had attended one of these events, but nonetheless, he was ecstatic. For just one day, everyone had traded in their drab clothing for neat and proper attire that had been scavenged from each and every house in Cheyenne. With time, Helena and Noah had formed a sort of bond. It wasn’t traditional in the sense where they were warm and fuzzy with each other, but rather one where they had the ability to just sit and be there with one another. There was no need for extravagant adventures or alluring topics to chit chat over. Just the simple presence of one another was enough. The option was given to Noah only a few days prior but he was never one to deny anyone from anything. He was kind and warm and he had secretly yearned to be asked to give a toast. As his turn approached, Noah stood up. He was never one to get nervous with public speaking so he knew that it would be a relatively easy task. He gave a warm smile to Helena before he spoke. “So, when I first met her, she was a quiet little thing. Well, she still is but needless to say, I have seen her come out of her shell little by little and I am proud of her for that. I’m proud of her for surviving for as long as she has and I can’t wait for her and her new husband to grow together and create a life with each other. May everyday you have from here on out be shared with the key fact that you are no longer alone. I know that you two will be happy with each other and I’m happy to see this relationship grow and blossom.”
