I am so proud of this subtle mending I did for my partner. This is a work shirt, so we kept things simple. I patched the hole with a complimentary fabric and then stitched it in place with lines of thread matching the colors of the shirt. I also did a blanket stitch around the edges of the hole.
I am really proud of how it turned out. It was very difficult because the shirt is 100% rayon and very drapey. The patch is a drapey cotton. It was not the easiest stitching job and I'm glad I did it by hand. My machine would have eaten up this nice fabric.
Look at these pants! I put my whole ass into mending these jeans for my friend, and she loves them! I did lots of different techniques with mostly machine sewing, but some hand sewing as well. I hand basted the large patches down after a wrinkly first attempt that did not go well.
I'm so happy to use my skills to help out my friend and give back to my community. So much of disability is asking for help, and it's really nice to be able to help someone else for a change.
I took an empty vinegar jug, cut off the top and made it into a beautiful utensils holder. I braided old fabrics together to make the textile and then glued it around and around.
The braid is made from stretched out socks, torn polyester clothing, and old t-shirts. It was very fun to braid the different textiles together to make this rope and I really love the colors coming together on the final piece. I have a lot more braid to use for other projects, too.
I finished knitting this shirt a few months ago, but never posted my FO pictures! I love how this shirt turned out and it's so comfortable. The yarn is 100% linen, so it's machine washable and will only get softer with wear. It's so comfy and cool.
Pattern: Islet Tee by Tatsiana Matsiuk

Look at the flowers I quilted this patch with! I'm playing with the format and having a grand time. I'm working on a larger patch today with some sashiko patterns. I'll share that one later when it's done.
Okay, here are my thoughts on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson:
The dialogue of those enchanted by the house feels awkward and weird. Like Mrs. Dudley talks in a way that seems pretty normal to me, but Eleanor and the rest despise her and, from the beginning, are talking over her and talking just weird. The foursome dialogue is always lightly magical or childish. This is particularly highlighted when Mrs. Montague arrives. Granted, she's and asshole, but she talks like a normal person, and the team immediately shuns her. Even her husband has been enchanted by the house and will not defend her to his new friends that he's known less than a week.
I love Eleanor. She's a wet cat of a lady, and I love her. She is so weird and ditzy. I wish she'd had the chance to grow up. But she is forever stuck as a childish person. Even the rest of the group treat her less and less like an adult as the book goes on. She calls herself childish repeatedly, and I was expecting her to grow up and become less childish. But she goes in the opposite direction. The house is her mother now, but it loves her and just wants her to be happy. It is so unsettling.
If I were reading this for a class, I'd want to analyze the narrative from Theo's perspective, particularly exploring just how telepathic she really is. Eleanor seems to think she can always read her mind, and Theo seems to affirm this on multiple occasions. I think, at first, the house is interested in both women before it latches on to Eleanor. After all, they are the only two with potential psychic abilities. That is assuming that the house is its own entity and not an extension of Eleanor.
Tl:dr. I loved it. It was spooky and short and so well written. I'm excited to read more of Jackson's work in the future.
Mended a rip in the knee of my partner's jeans. I was originally going to do it by machine, but I kept putting it off. I waited a couple weeks to do it by machine and it ended up taking only two days to mend by hand. Oh well. It's done now, and we both love how the racoon fabric turned out. Really glad I thrifted this fabric a while back.
