Summer is at its height of power when August rolls in, bringing with it the first of the harvest festivals, Lughnasadh [or Lammas], on the first of the month.

Lughnasadh is a festival of strength and abundance, a reflection of August itself. Lugh and the Corn God are highly celebrated during this month and are particularly good to work with in spells or rituals for abundance, prosperity, agriculture, marriage, or strength.

The Earth Mother in her many forms is ripening and overflowing with abundance. While we often see the first harvest as being associated with corn, there is much more that has been harvested by this point.

We must remember not to overlook anything or take anything for granted in our lives, and the harvest is an excellent reminder of that. It is a time to begin focusing on expressing appreciation and giving thanks for all that we have.

While the summer nights are still warm, it's a good time for vigil fires, which have long been held for ceremonial purposes. Begin with planning.

What is the purpose of your vigil fire? Where will you have the fire? Will you hold vigil for an hour or two or an entire night? Or something else? Will you stay awake or sleep by the fire? What will you do during the vigil?

Consider your comfort : warmth, food, drink, and a light source. Consider fire safety, and be sure someone knows where you are and when you'll return. Build the fire in a safe location. A log cabin-style fire with wood that can be pushed in from the sides will last for hours.

Hold your vigil at fireside, periodically repeating this chant :

Sitting with the vigil fire,

watching embers through the night.

Powers of vigil,

shine in me like firelight.

Visualize things falling into place and burn some incense as you focus your intent on the original spell. Say :

Repeat these words anytime you find yourself thinking about your goal and you feel restless waiting for the results.

⛧Mend A Broken Heart

How do you mend a broken heart? How do you know where to start? The best thing to do is start working on yourself.

Gather some rose quartz crystals, any form is fine but raw tend to have better energy than tumbled in my opinion.

Sit in a cross legged position or lie on the floor and get comfortable. Place the crystals around you in a circle pattern, it doesn't have to be a full circle.

Close your eyes and take several cleansing deep breaths. Concentrate on your heart and repeat these words as many times as needed :

I love myself, I will be good to me,

I fill my heart with love to set it free.

After crying the tears from my broken heart,

I will begin again with a brand new start.

Love and peace begin with me,

My heart will mend, blessed be.

Fridays are associated with the Norse goddess Freya, who rules over battle but also love and sexuality. Whether or not you're in a relationship, it's always worth taking time to practice a little self-love.

Today, write yourself a love letter to save for when you're feeling down and need a boost in confidence. You may write this in any form you choose, but it's important that you be specific.

Describe the qualities you like best about yourself. List the things you've overcome or accomplished, and offer yourself praise. Imagine the future and all the things you hope for yourself, then encourage your future self to achieve those dreams. Address your letter to your future self from your past self.

When you're done, seal your letter in an envelope addressed to you and say :

Sealed with love from me to me,

Kept for when it's time to see

If I should feel lost or hurt,

Remind me of my own self worth

Keep your letter somewhere safe and open it when you need a boost.

The last weekend of August is a great time to get outside. Can you take the day to go to a lake, river, stream, or ocean? Or visit a forest, mountain, or park?

While many of us live in cities, we can still find parkland, ravines, and cemeteries with large swatches of wilderness for us to connect to the elements.

Take your lunch, a blanket, and a book.

Lie down on the ground [Earth]

Breathe deeply [Air]

Feel the sun on your face and arms [Fire]

Wade, swim, or drink [Water]

Throughout the rest of your day monitor the shift of your personal energy. Observe the positive effects of nature as it raises your vibration and charges your batteries [Spirit]

I have quite a few pets some might think are strange, two crawfish named Otis and Tiny, and a snake named Vincent. But to me they are my babies and like any other pet owner I love them unconditionally and vice versa.

Their love, like with all animals, is a source of powerful healing and magick. I feel loved and know I belong as they do with me.

If you would like to start regularly blessing your companions, helping them feel just a bit more comfortable, then this is for you. The energy will surround them and help dispel adversity, protecting your animal allies.

Each morning take the time to ritualistically spend time with your animals and say :

I bless you with love and light that you may be safe, always find your way home, and know you are loved.

At night before bed I like to include giving thanks for their health and happiness as well.
