*bangs pots and pans* OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED WITH HYPERMOBILITY!!!!! Unofficially diagnosed with hEDS. I still have to make that phone call, but a lot of family things happened this month and I've been drained. Went to the cape! Saw the water! Saw my friends TWICE! IN A WEEK! Library summer reading party! Book club! Ate good food, ate bad food, had a bunch of migraines. Roller coaster of a month, to be honest. Read a lot though!
Hammajang Luck by Makana Yamamoto ⭐⭐⭐ – Mostly fun! I really enjoyed the family aspect of this, I loved that even though Edie was in prison for eight years, their family kept in touch and was excited and welcoming when they came home. The heist was fun, but it should've been more prominent considering its marketing. I did not like Angel at all and so the romance was a huge miss for me. The last quarter was an emotional whiplash with Edie hating Angel and then swearing they can't live without her and then calling her a dumb bitch and then they have sex again. The ending was super rushed too and unsatisfying. I do love the side characters though! I wish they had more time to shine.
Dune by Frank Herbert ⭐️⭐️ – Anakin was right, sand fucking sucks. They gloss over events and eveyone is bland like cardboard except Duncan Idaho who died just when he could've made everything better.
Even Though I Knew The End by CL Polk ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Reread! Two friends read it and I felt left out and was ready to be hurt again and yes can confirm it Still Hurts.
Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne ⭐⭐⭐ – More plot than Legends & Lattes, but still fanfiction like where we're expected to already have an established connection with the main characters. I'm really bummed they completely skipped over the griffon baby hatching, I would've preferred that scene to what we got at the end.
A Magic Steeped In Poison by Judy I Lin ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – The romance was kind of stupid, not going to lie. It was mostly fun and I'm glad I read it but I don't see myself reading it again. Kind of disappointing because the book is SO pretty, but at least the Princess was neat.
Behooved by M Stevenson ⭐⭐⭐⭐– FUN! SILLY! A GOOD TIME! Needed more puns. This was NOT a slow burn, but it wasn't instalove either, and honestly the two of them were very cute. I want an entire book dedicated to Tatiana. Thought it glossed over some seemingly important things like Who Was Behind The Evil Plot, but maybe there is another book in the works who knows. It was fun! Would read again!
A Venom Dark and Sweet by Judy I Lin ⭐⭐ – Meh. The plot was a lot more compelling when it was about Ning trying to save her sister rather than Ning trying to save the country. The romance is stupid, but not very prominent. The princess, Ruyi, and Lian were the most interesting characters and we hardly ever see them. Disappointing, to be honest.
The Crow Rider by Kalyn Josephson ⭐⭐ – Sigh. I had hoped that with the addition of A Crow I'd enjoy this story more, but the crow was one of the only good things about it. He's a Little Shit and I love him, and there were some funny scenes, but overall just basic YA. I don't like the love interest, and I only accept that Thia chose the Wrong Boy because Caylus is aromantic and I love him. I also find it annoying when a main character chooses the Right Path and DOESN'T kill the main antagonist, but the antagonist just died anyway. Usually by some accident set in motion by the protagonist. It dampens the Let's End The Cycle Of Violence message.
I don't know what September will bring. I have so many books left on my yearly list, I'd like to plow through a bunch of those. I'm doing a series of PJSK album cover redraws, which have been very fun so far, though I've only posted two of them. I have yarn projects laid out, one of which I'm a little behind on, but almost done with. TEETH ARE SOON! THANK YOU! MY PHONE BILL IS PAID BECAUSE OF Y'ALL!
