aunt estee is so fascinating to me, like this woman from outside gilead, the “original pearl girl” who left behind what she knew to join a christian nationalist state, who really does seem to believe in the promise of gilead, yet nonetheless adores the plums and pearls like her own children and truly wants only the best for them. who was she before gilead? what made her go there? she has the aunts authority but none of their trauma, she wasn’t a “sinful woman” saved from execution like aunt vidala or lydia, she chose this, and she has the same blood thirst for justice as the plums. I feel like if there is a storyline of becka becoming some sort of saint estee would be one of her first acolytes.
