Avoid Au Pair World!!

This website is an absolute disgrace!! They do not support au pairs whatsoever, no matter what the family does they always stick with the family because they are the ones who pay for the website. The family could kick you out, refuse to pay you, break everything in your contract, refuse to feed you, have you working 24/7, etc. And they will STILL support the family. If you still use the website then PLEASE make sure you know every little detail about your potential host family and have references!! Speak to their previous au pairs every time! Make sure you have enough in your bank when you go to buy you a last minute flight home as well as enough to stay in a hotel for a few nights until the flight. I have known many a family throw their au pairs out onto the street without a care in the word. Meet the family on Skype several times, meet the kids, be clear on your tasks down to every detail, tell your family where you are going and give them all the details of your host family including photos and addresses.

Im off to Iceland in May!! I'm staying for 2 months with a family to go traveling with them. I was actually going to go too a family in Switzerland, stayed with them last weekend and everything but they just wasn't what that made out to be on au pair world. Iceland has always been a dream and I'm so excited!!

Au Pair Ramble...

Warning: Negativity!

So today I have worked over 14 hours. 8.15 am till 10.30 pm. In the end I turned down my usual cup of herbal tea and asked the HD if I could go. For whatever reason HM has this thing where before the boys go too bed she likes to decide we should tidy their room, like full on empty draws/cupboards. She’s like tomorrow we will have to tidy their book cupboard which is just crammed full of shit. What she means is you, as in me. Like I did with the shelves. Then she proceeded to go on about how ‘we’ (what she means is me) need to keep it tidy, I then pointed out the shelves I did tidy and the boys made a mess of it. Afterwards she decided to just sit on her iPad in the boy’s room while they sleep. The boys should go to bed at 9pm, already too late, but they actually go to bed at gone 10/11pm. While this was going on, HD decided he would get a massage from Mammie, HM’s mum. Whilst after tidying the boy’s room I was left to fold clothes which the HM doesn’t like me doing when the boys are awake, tonight I decided I wasn’t folding their tea towel/towels/wash cloths because the boys don’t use them. I already have 3 boys clothes/blankets/towels to sort out. Last night it was the same. HD pranced around doing jack shit and host mum decided it was the right time to sort out the boy’s wardrobe. It’s ridiculous and I can’t wait till Xmas.

24) My flat is such a mess, I say I am going to tidy it every day but I never do. I only actually tidy it when my host mum asks if she can come round to go into the loft.
