Recovering from the side-effects of Elpis left her weak and feverish and constantly drowning in medications. Sure, it cured her, but now came the horrid torture that was processing everything like a cancer that wracked her entire body.
The painkiller hits her arm with a soft hiss from the injector, and she grits her teeth, seething into a pillow while she curled up a bit tighter in the infirmary bed she'd passed out in earlier.
How they expected her to get any kind of work done was beyond her.
"Thanks Doc..." She mumbles, covering her face and pressing gently on her eyes to try and stave off a throbbing migraine, and hopefully stave off another wave of nausea at the same time. "Thought this was supposed to help- Not make me feel infinitely worse."
Small price to pay to be able to feel the cold again, she guessed.
Ada's memorized Rebecca's coffee order, which is now so infamous among lab techs involved in the same field of anti-bioterror work that she's used it to cause fake-outs when she's snooping around. A strategically placed caramel macchiato with whipped cream and chocolate chips is enough to get interns panicking and wondering where the Professor is.
Even after defeating Balfour's plagas, Ada still will periodically spoof Rebecca's devices to make sure she's not being followed or spied on.
Ada has given Rebecca samples of unique bioweapons from places all over the world. One of the most unique samples is harbored in the form of algae, which was sourced from Ymmol, near Romania.
Rebecca has Ada's number and is free to report any interesting information her way. So far, she hasn't taken Ada up on the offer.
four (ish) headcanons I am making up about our characters
Rebecca DID in fact get a talking to about turning her radio off in a potentially dangerous circumstance after administering care to a very, very sick and danger to self Carla in the middle of nowhere. Not that it resulted in lasting disciplinary action, but it was still very frustrating!
Carla and Rebecca have a secure line that Carla puts information into after they defeated Balfour's plaga plot together. She sends the latest information she's dug up on specific strains that get put into the Yukon QZ, as well as behavioral notes she's taken on infected creatures.
Rebecca was the one that changed Carla's mind about who Glenn Arias really was as a person, not anyone else's recollection of what happened in Manhattan. Carla is now firmly in the camp of would defend Rebecca against her ex if he ever showed up again. Since Arias showed such a weird interest in Rebecca, Carla's more friendly to her, and unusually sympathetic.
Rebecca is one of the people Carla actually has respect for and it's because she showed up, did the work to earn it, and for some reason that sympathy earned her some generous points. Carla goes out of her way for Rebecca Chambers a hell of a lot more than anyone else.
@pyrrhaicvictory asked:
"please, talk to me... it kills me seeing you like this" (from Pyrrhaicvictory for Jaune)
"Pyrrha..." Jaune was quiet for a moment. He knew what she was feeling, the hurt of watching your partner struggle with no way to help them. No matter how much you try. More than anything, he didn't want to burden her. He was the team leader, after all.
But was it more of a burden on her shoulders if he kept this to himself.
"I'm just," he paused, turning to let his forehead rest against hers. "I'm so scared, Pyrrha. I almost lost you once. I don't know if I could handle it again."
She's exhausted . She's sick and tired of this constant poking and prodding and she's just done with it all . It's barely been several weeks since Kijuju and all the doctors have done is fuss over her and give her hundreds of medical prescriptions and keep her locked away in some wing of the B.S.A.A. hospital on accounts of her status - after being controlled by Wesker for so long , the B.S.A.A. was wary , and for good reason. Still , she really was just awfully over with it all .
Plus , she didn't exactly have a good relationship with pure white sterile walls , the smell of disinfectant , IVs in her skin and medication on the table in her cell hospital room . It brought back memories she hated , and small droplets of blood had crusted over in her arm from when she'd ripped the IVs out after a particularly bad night terror , imagining herself back in the Tricell laboratory again . She still felt so incredibly off , she'd barely been able to sleep, she was constantly tired and everything felt dull compared to a few months ago , and she wanted out of this shitty hospital room . The ex-cop had found herself thinking about the strength she'd received almost constantly several months ago sometimes , and she hated , hated that some part of her wanted to feel it again . She shook her head , clearing that out of her mind , and ran a hand through her hair .
Fuck whatever tests the B.S.A.A. wanted to run . Jill wasn't inclined to be a lab guinea pig again , and she hadn't let any of the doctors stick needles in her after she'd become conscious enough to actually make her own decisions . She'd been . . extremely vehement , and explained very passionately that she'd rather die and they needed to get the fuck out before she threw them out .
Jill finally had her chance to refuse things , and by the gods was she taking that in stride .
There's an unusual face at the coffee corral when Beltway pulls up today, a petite-framed woman with shorter hair and a serious disposition. He gives a grunt of acknowledgement on approach and she steps aside amiably, scooting her thermos.
He reaches for the handle of the coffee pot, pausing when he hears an "Oh-! Um..." from her. He turns, "... Not done with it?"
Her focus seems split by something, she has to tear her gaze away to meet his eyes, "Oh no, it's not that. Do you know you're bleeding?"
He blinks, rotates his arm and laughs when he finds the two inch long cut just above his elbow, "Well fuck, I am aren't I."
@novelresilience
Since Piers is pretty much always in excellent physical health (if not mental), he ends up being a major source of a lot of Rebecca's knowledge on the C-Virus when he's available for study. Between the Enhanced C running through his systems and Jake's antibodies available for study, Rebecca ends up with a lot of material for creating life-saving medicines.
That's basically the only reason he's ever in a medbay, as the high-speed regeneration he's capable of, and the C-Virus' hostility and fervent attacking of foreign diseases means he's pretty much never in need of medicine.
Also! Piers has had heart attacks. Multiple times. It comes with having more than one heart beating and Piers' body still not knowing how to handle that for quite a while--cells started attacking each other and once or twice Piers has had one of them shut down. Did it kill him? No, of course not--Piers could be up and moving with no blood pumping at all, if he needed to--but it was agonizing in a suffocating kind of way. Like that impending doom sense that precedes an attack, except it doesn't end. He's had to manually restart his own heart with electric backlash/discharge once.
