My fave aurors! This is another draft of mine that I decided to test my pen for. I don't love how it turned out but they're here.

“You’re a sadist,” chuckled the young woman, giving him a playful nudge before she even realised it.
They both froze at that gesture, any trace of hilarity quickly wiped from their faces as they found themselves staring at each other.
The witch paled, opening and closing her mouth a couple of times before babbling a confused apology. Bloody hell, what was she thinking? L was not, he. Was. Not. Her friend! And he clearly hated physical contact, he showed it plenty! What was he going to do now? Would he get angry? Or would he burst into tears?
God, if I traumatised the most important detective on the planet Robards is going to kill me.
[sneak peek]
Once he wrapped up his own affairs and informed Draco of the upcoming task, he made his way over to the main entrance bridge to find Dawn already waiting. No one else had arrived yet.
Dawn managed a small smile, just as Severus reached her, “Thank you for the flowers this morning, my love. They were beautiful.”
“Dawn – “
“I’ll be fine, “ Her hand rested comfortably upon his chest, “I need to be there.”
Severus looked around to ensure they weren’t being watched, before curling his hand over her own, “Allow me to be concerned. Because now I understand this of being more of a personal matter, than something born of mere duty.”
The woman blinked wearily, as if the last few days had caught up with her and sapped all of her emotional energy, “I need to solve this. I won’t be able to rest until I do, and I need to stay productive. Staying home and wallowing over what I’ve lost is going to do me no favors,” Dawn watched as Severus’ brow furrowed, “Oh, Severus I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean that as a dig towards you. Your situation was far different to mine – “
He forgave her words, merely because he knew she was right. He still had so much more to learn from her, “Your apology is not needed. You have far more strength to pick yourself up more than I ever did. But also…I never had you.”
Dawn seemed to relax, as her shoulders finally released their tension. She looked relieved, “I have you now. But you must also be my level-head, and to stop me from doing anything foolish. The urge to return to Riddle Manor and take out whom I can of the Hollow is too great but unwise. I need you here with me.”

[Sneak Peak...]
Dawn’s shoulders slumped, “We are no closer to solving any of this.”
“I would not be so sure of that, “ Severus’ voice trailed away, “I sense a running theme with the element of death further fuelling the incidences with the curse. You spoke of there being elements of a ritual at the crime scene?”
She nodded, “Yes. Do you think they are closely related?”
“I think…” Severus stopped to pause for a moment, “I think we are correct to assume that they must be trying to summon it. Utilise its power.”
“Are we assuming they are aware of its location, then?”
“If they did, they would be the ones there. Not your Aurors. We can only assume that they are unaware, “ Severus spoke bluntly, “We must stay cautious for suspicious activity.”
“I am not one to feel fear on a case before, “ Her voice wavered, and she felt his fingers caress her skin in a bid to calm her. She looked back up into his eyes, “This is a serious problem.”
“I know, “ Severus calming, silky voice was indeed working, “You mentioned of a new engraving? What was it?”
“It was ‘Aeternus sanguis’, “ She paused to think deeper about it, but no other word came to mind.
The look on Severus’ face indicated that he was trying to formulate an answer, too. Without a word, Severus released his gentle hold on her and wandered to his cramped bookshelf. With slender fingers running against each golden spine of the ancient books he had claimed over the years, he found one and pulled it out from his dusty position on the shelf. All she could hear was the meticulous flipping of the old pages, as he ran his finger down a single page, until he settled on one.
Severus looked up from the book and into her concerned eyes, “Eternal blood.”
“Still on blood purity? Will this ever end?”
He placed the book back on its shelf, eventually wandering back to where she stood, “Since my return to this school, the Slytherins have been deep still in the notion of blood purity, as they were before. It’s a culture – a historical initiation and a nod to its founder. It took me many months to sway them from that way and to subdue their dangerous Dark Arts fixation. I feel it because I was one of them. When these killings began, they were accused of being involved. But I know that they are just as frightened by the possible crucifixion of what they once were. They do not want this to be their fate.”
Dawn melted into his chest, and she felt his arms softly wrap around her, “What are you trying to say, Severus?”
She felt his breath against her hair, “The ones responsible for these killings are trying to bring about a new order using Voldemort’s name as fuel, thus, I suspect this is where my students’ fear have come to be. All this time they lived without his influence after the war, and now the possibility of such a faction taking back hold is something that still frightens them. When the time comes, I know they will not concede. Not this time. With myself as their guide and Draco’s influence, we can protect them. We will lose no more people to the devastation that blood purity brought forth in our past.”
Dawn smiled, “They have so much respect for you now. They know the consequences of following that path, and they will do their best to fight against it. And we will protect them from what lies ahead, whatever it may be. We will shut them down before they even think of taking any more children. These children.” His soft hands caressed her heart, gentle in his grasp. Protecting it. Guarding it with his own. Her vulnerable, exposed soul felt safe with him. Instead of her building walls around herself, he instead became her shield. Her voice was his. His goals were her own. Together they knew that they could overcome this, no matter what hardships came their way.
