Okay, I’m screaming because you used my favorite poem by one of my fave poets for this beautiful picture!!!! Like, I want this poem recited/sung (there is a wonderful four part choral arrangement that I’ve sung before) at my funeral, I love it so much! 😍
@auroratraum aaah, I had no idea about the musical arrangement; I’ll have to look it up. Thank you for telling me!
It’s a beautiful poem, and I’ve used only half of it here. I just thought it was fitting. :3

It looks like flames! Love the dimension.
aaahhh thank you! i was really nervous going into it because i had no idea what color my hairdresser was going with (i was serious about the “surprise me” request) but i’m SUPER thrilled with how it turned out. plus since it’s warm tones it’s going to fade out nicely, which it didn’t when i went teal

Ooooh, what kind did you make this time?
Steven Universe tea! :D
Trill! First, I just want to say that I love your fic! But second, how does one get into hockey? Where do I start? I feel like I need a primer on all the players and teams... Do you know of one? (I feel like a bad daughter since my dad is a former goalie.)
There are a couple primers floating around out there - but honestly you’ll get VERY different perspectives depending on who writes them and who they like, so really, my best advice is to just start watching games.
The World Cup of Hockey is going on right now, and it’s a great way to get to know some of the best players in the world.
At the beginning of the year when I was still trying to figure out what teams I liked, I watched all 30 of the home openers from last year’s season so I could see all the teams. I happened to have the NHL.tv pass at the time, but you can catch a lot of full game replays on youtube. Doing that helped a lot getting a feel for the different arenas, fans, commentators, and of course the teams themselves.
A lot of it is going to be subjective - do the players have personalities you like, do the coaching styles match up with the sort of coaching you like to see, are the fans the sort of fans you can see yourself hanging out with? That’s all up to you.
The internet is always a great supplement to watching the games. The commentators are usually pretty good about throwing in little explanations here and there that’ll grow your knowledge of the game, but you can always go read up on the rules when you inevitably realize you’ve been watching games for weeks and you’re still trying to figure out what the fuck “icing” is.
And then of course there’s all the blogs and social media stuff that will fill out the picture of the players for you. I follow blogs (official, and fan) from almost all the teams even though as far as following games I’ve settled down to a few favorites - there are like over 1200 games in a year, each team has like 82, so, you can’t watch them all!But I enjoy keeping up with what’s happening with other teams and getting to share the fun when good things happen and keep learning about new players worth cheering for. Places like tumblr will also let you know about certain player actions that get glossed over by the mainstream media but that you might not be willing to support a player after learning about. For example, I don’t support the chicago team for a variety of reasons (you will see certain players’ names used as trigger warnings). It’s up to you if you want to get into that stuff.
So! Once you start to get a feel for any teams that might appeal, it’s great to get to know some of the players more in depth because then you can start going on youtube adventures watching old highlights and funny features, and it makes it even more exciting to watch the games when you care about certain players. You can make friends online with people who share your favs and scream with them when things happen. Warning: using this method you may form absurdly strong emotional attachments to strangers and know things about them that would be inappropriately stalkerish in regular life. This is normal.
