I have thought about playing Final Fantasy XIV again after a year or two of not playing since I was a free player; that was until a friend gifted me a three-month membership for the game, which was good and bad. It was good because I could do everything that was locked behind membership, and it was bad because, by taking this membership, one, I was nowhere near where I could make use of the…
Reposting for @mimble-sparklepudding's birthday prompt, because this is
A Tale of Friendship
Story below the cut.

The stench of the Goldvine's miasma, shot through with sharper, more pleasant notes of cut vegetation, still lingered in the air. Trysta had already soaked a cloth and was cleaning her skin of the sticky residue when she noticed the tiny morbol seedling half-hidden in the foliage.
Dropping the cloth, she quickly reached for her weapon—but when it did not attack she stilled her movements. She noted that this morbling was different from others she'd seen; much smaller, and a smooth grass green.
A baby?
No, she'd seen what they looked like bursting out from their pods.
A… runt?
That seemed more likely, and explained why it hid instead of attacking like the others had.
With a sinking feeling, Trysta realized she'd likely killed off the tiny one's family; whatever "family" was to these Seedkin.
"Sorry little one, you'll need to find a new mama to take care of you." Paused. "Best stay away from me for that to happen."
Frowning, she left the area to travel deeper into the cave system called Aurum Vale. The runt would not last long on its own, if her theory that it was defenseless was accurate. However, Vorsaile Heuloix had requested a purging of all the dangerous seedkin. In truth, she should not leave any "mamas" for the small morboling.
Looking back, Trysta wondered if an instinct for survival was what led it to follow her. It was not deterred by the vegetal carnage in her wake, nor did her commands to "leave" make any difference. It continued to trail behind her.
"Oh fine!" Throwing her hands up in the air, she gave in to her empathy and decided to adopt the thing. At least until it was strong enough to survive on its own.
"I'm going to call you Stinky, though. I hope you're okay with that."
Trysta did not call it "Stinky." It took two days before she renamed the seedling "Chloris."
* * *
Chloris loved Trysta's home in the Lavendar Beds. It especially enjoyed splashing through the fountain and tiny ponds. It was there that Trysta began teaching it to catch food on its own, though it meant the loss of many a beautiful carp!
Morbols are slow digesters that use their fang-lined maw to keep their prey in place. Once Chloris had learned to catch prey, Trysta quickly taught it how to do a quick kill and then break the prey down into smaller pieces. That meant the pieces were digested inside Chloris' trunk, versus slowly rotting while hanging out of its mouth.
When Chloris had grown larger and finally began developing the defensive capabilities of her kind, Trysta took it back to Aurum Vale with conflicted feelings. In the space of a few months, new seedkin had grown to replace the ones she had previously cleared out. No doubt she would be asked again at some point to do another cull.
Chloris was tame, but it was still a wild creature that deserved to live freely—not to mention one that would grow much too large for her small home to accommodate. But, would it forget Trysta? If she had to come back… would she be forced to kill the morbol she'd fallen in love with.
Alright. So… she *could* have been more ruthless about leaving it there. When it gaped at her in confusion, continuing to bound after her despite her exhortations to "Stay," she could have done what cooler-minded (or colder-hearted) people had in such situations and driven it off with attacks.
Trysta couldn't do that. She couldn't, *wouldn't*, do that.
Chloris returned home with her that day.
* * *
While the Lavendar Beds community was initially scared and outraged by her decision to keep a growing morbol on her property, they eventually came around after being made aware of the *perks*.
As Chloris grew into a full Goldvine, it learned how to release its sleeping gas upon command. The gas was contained, diluted, and then portioned out as a very mild sleeping draught that provided a surprisingly refreshing sleep and with no addictive qualities.
Chloris was also excellent for taking care of leftovers, which greatly reduced waste that would normally attract beasts and vermin.
The adults still wouldn't let children ride upon its back, though, claiming it was too high to be safe, even when Trysta offered to sit with the child. *But hey, what parents don't know won't hurt them.*
[If I could gpose this, it would be an ending shot of Trysta on top of Chloris, holding a very happy child in front of her. 😄]

Serious question for all the final fantasy 14 players, because I can't tell if this is a community joke, or if I've gotten off easy - but is Aurum Vale really that bad of a dungeon? I've seen people freak out when it gets pulled out as random leveling dungeon, there's some creative nicknames I've seen, and some of my friends have avid hatred for it.
I asked my veteran friends and they insist that Aurum Vale used to be harder (ergo the anger) and people hard pulling at the start need to chill.
I think I've had a party wipe exactly once in that dungeon in my time - and I've lost count how many times I've ran that dungeon without issues because I wanted the Aurum set once upon a time. So question is: Have I Just Been Lucky, or Is There A Joke I'm Missing?
(Feel free to drop me your horror stories about this dungeon as well if you got any!)
