Having played FFXIV for close to a year and a half now, I have come to the conclusion that, not only are MMORPG animes getting the personalities of healers wrong, they're actually confusing their place in the group with that of the tank.
The healer is not the heart but the head of the group, the one who should be determining how fast everyone goes, how many enemies are taken on at once, who to heal and when, their every action dictated by cool logic and strategy.
It's actually the tank's natural role to be the heart of the group, throwing themselves into danger and between the rest of the party and the enemies to keep them safe, teammates' well-being is number one priority. They are ideally here to take hits so no one else has to.
Also because, in the romcom of dungeons and duties, all the monsters are senpai. And when it comes to the tank, it's 'Notice me senpai!' hours 24/7.
