Dear (Aussie) studyblrs
Hey everyone! I don't know if people know much about me, so let me start with a personal intro: My name is Emily I'm 17 years old I am very queer (where on that spectrum? Who knows. But not straight) This last fact, for aussies, might remind them of the ongoing debate in politics atm: the issue of the postal plebiscite to vote for marriage equality To keep things brief, here's a summary of what's happening: - the marriage equality plebiscite (national vote) did not pass parliament - the government is instead conducting a postal plebiscite - several million dollars will be given to both the No campaign and the Yes campaign for their respective advertising. This means that we will be seeing a LOT of homophobic advertising come September. Yoopee - the results will be non-binding - parliament is not obliged to vote along these lines The most important thing right now is that everyone who will be 18 before September 24 is enrolled to vote. If you are not, you will not be eligible to vote in the postal plebiscite and this is what the conservative Liberals are depending on. Young people support marriage equality more than any other age group - we need to use that power. This article here explains how to enrol. Do it. Get your voices heard. Enrolments need to be in by August 24. http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-09/same-sex-marriage-postal-plebiscite-14-days-to-enrol-to-vote/8791312?pfmredir=sm
