Hey! The personal art train has been incredibly slow lately due to me being absolutely swamped by commission work this past month (thank you so much everyone!), but I’ve been chipping away at some design tweaks for Austri here and finally finished them today :D I told myself that I wasn’t going to do a full sheet, and then promptly changed my mind once it started going well xD I swear these sheets only get longer, haha!

I think the first version of her design was perfectly serviceable as it was so I didn’t change a ton here, but I felt I could give her better overall shapes and commit more fully to the jellyfish inspiration, particularly with her hat. Her first ref sheet was from 2019, so she was due for an update anyway. She’s somehow even more adorable than before :’D Enjoy! ---------- The constellation symbol for Piscis Austinus was originally designed by Denis Moskowitz and released to the public domain.

Odin and his brothers had successfully destroyed almost all of the Frost Jötnar, and more importantly their source, Ymir.  From his body they fashioned the entire cosmos.  Ymir's skull became the sky, with his brains as clouds.  Sparks from Muspelheim were hurled up to become the stars. Ymir's flesh was made into the earth; mountains were formed from his bones, and grass and trees from his hair.  The oceans were formed from Ymir's sweat – or possibly blood, as in some versions of the myth.  Worms (or maggots) emerged from the corpse of Ymir, and became beings known as dwarfts.  Four of these were instructed to hold up the sky and prevent it from falling.  They were named Nordi, Sundri, Austri and Vestri, corresponding to their positions in the north, south, east and west of the world.  Other dwarfs emerged and went to live in an underground realm called Nidavellir. The sun and the moon came to be when the Aesir were angered by the arrogance of a human.  He had named his children Sól and Máni, in honour of their brightness and beauty.  The gods punished this be exiling the children to the sky where they would ride in chariots carrying the sun and moon.  The Jötunn Nótt and her son Dagr (night and day) were also sent into the sky aboard chariots of their own to ride around the world.  The sun and moon were pursued by two wolves.  These were the children of Jötnar, named Sköll and Hati Hróðvitnisson, and were destined to chase the sun and the moon until the day of Ragnarök, when they would finally catch and devour them.
