Fic Request:
“There really isn’t much on author, so imma change that! The pronounce can be she/her but I’m fine with neutral so everyone can enjoy it ^^. It’ll be a regular fic with Author and the reader in a nice fluffy romance. The two lovebirds can be in Author’s library bonding over books. ^^ Hope this isn’t too much!”
Notes: sorry if this wasn’t what you had in mind but I got off track and didn’t realize how much I wrote till I started editing. Hope you enjoy it anyway. I need more Author fics on my blog. At least of him not being the bad guy.
Author hated the phrase, “love at first sight”. It was cheesy and overused in many novels and left for desperate or the young and foolish.
However, and despite the unfortunate grimace it brought him, Author found the words matched your introduction perfectly.
It wasn’t anything special. You weren’t dressed up. Nor spoke words that impressed or outmatched Author, it was rather the book in your hands. How you held it so carefully. Like it was a breathing being, then an object made from paper.
You respected it. Something Author very rarely saw in people anymore. It was mostly about phones of computers. Which he didn’t grudge against. Technology was useful. But it was something about holding a book in your hands that seemed comforting. A whole world in the palm of your hand. Inked to perfection for you to devour and explore.
That’s how you explained it anyway.
“I feel more at ease knowing I have book,” You shrugged as Wilford pointed out the novel. “If I get bored I can sit down and ignore you all. It’s also a good conversation starter. Which you just used.”
Author had smiled at that. For once he actually didn’t need to force it or roll his eyes at whatever he was listening too.
You had caught his attention without having to lift a finger or force him to acknowledge you.
Wilford got bored quickly and moved on to pester someone else. Leaving you open for Author to swoop in and make his introductions.
“It’s rare to see a book in good shape around here,” Author said with a charming smile. “They rarely survive long. One of these idiots either use it as kindling or I rescue it and take it home.”
You smiled politely and shrugged, holding the book closer. “I’ll be sure to keep my book close then. I’d rather not lose it on the first day at the office.”
It was Author’s turn to shrug. Gesturing to the other Ipliers nearby. “They bother you, just come to me. I’m not particarly liked here. They’ll leave you alone if I say something. Hopefully.”
You chuckled and held out your free hand, “I’m (Y/N), and I will no doubt be calling on you in the next few days. Jim has already tried getting me to do an interview. But I was told that’s not a good idea.”
“Author. And it’s definitely not. Trust me. Just stick to your work-place and don’t meddle with others. It’s safer for you and your book.”
However, meddling became a common occurrence between you and Author. Not only did you manage to worm your way into his side of the office, filing away papers of information and “guarding” Iplier secrets, you also slid into Author’s affections.
And soon after that, it became a known relationship between you and the Iplier. It was comfortable and had it’s laughs. Author was more relaxed around you, and seemed to smile more often then frowning.
The other Ipliers knew better then to go into Author’s Library when you were in there, unless it was an emergency. Especially on long days. But at this time, you were hanging in the Study area.
Which was a small nook amongst the many shelves of books and files, with desks and computers to download and print data.
You were waiting on the reports from Dark, giving you some time to kick your feet up on the desk and start reading a book.
But it was short lived when Author noticed which book you were reading. He scoffed playfully and marched over to you.
“Honestly, love, stop reading. I can’t have you finish the series before I even begin.” Author teased. Plucking the book from your hands. Leaping back with achuckle as you made a wild grab for it.
“I can’t wait on you forever, Author! You haven’t started reading yet!” You ran after him as he ducked behind your desk. Shielding himself with your chair as he held the novel behind his back.
“I’ve been busy. Can’t you reread another book till I at least get halfway through the first?” Author pouted childishly. But you ignored the adorable lip bite and threw a pen at him.
“No! The last chapter ended with Carly-”
Author exclaimed loudly, slapping the pen out of the air and pointing at you in a playful threat. “No spoilers. Or I will do something you’ll regret.”
You scoffed and crossed your arms, “Oh yeah? Like what?”
“I’ll close the book.” Author said with a glint in his gaze. Bringing the book out for you to see. His thumb was crammed in between the pages, saving your spot. “And you will lose your place.”
“You wouldn’t dare.” You gasped dramatically.
“Try me, my dear. My finger just….might….slip.” Author’s thumb was yanked out and you squeaked, but quickly glared at him as you noticed his forefinger now in the page.
“You’re a monster!”
“Says the beast that spoiled The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.” Author snapped. Having to flee deeper into the mass of shelving as you leapt the desk and ran after him.
“It was one spoiler! Barely relevant to the story.” You replied, racing after him as he scurried through the bookshelves.
“It was still a spoiler nonetheless.” Author dived behind a particular piece of shelving, which happened to have wheels (convenient to him) and rolled it in front of you. Just as you reached the entrance to the next part of the Library, cutting you off from him. You tried to reach your book through the shelves but Author kept a step out of reach.
“You’re a child.” You said and Author winked. Smirking as he waved your book in front of you.
“Alas, my love, we are at an end to our chase. You’re gonna have to promise me at least two weeks to start on this series before you can continue.”
“That’s unfair!” You whined, leaning against the shelving. Peering at Author through the books and files. “I need to finish it, Author. Please?”
Author tilted his head. That evil boyish look taking over as he stepped forward to lean against the shelving.
“When have I ever been fair, (y/n)?” He asked teasingly. “You can read the hundreds of other books I have for you. They need attention too.”
You frowned and Author chuckled, turning his head sideways so he could slip between the shelving and peck your lips with a kiss.
“One week. And then you can continue your story.” Author said and you sighed. Rolling your eyes as you nodded.
“Fine. One week. But I will be cranky all week until you let me finish my book.”
Author pushed the shelving away and came forward, wrapping his arms around your waist to pull you against him.
“Cranky doesn’t suit you. But I can change your mood.” He said with a smile. Kissing you sweetly as he handed you the book back. “And don’t try to get some naughty sneak-peeks. It’s not allowed.”
Author winked and tucked a pen into your pant’s pocket. Moving away as you opened your book to where your finger held, and grumbled a quiet curse.
The pages were completely blank save for the numbers at the bottom, and the same two sentences on every piece of paper. Scrawled in neat handwriting were the words:
“The Author loves (y/n), however his trust in their willpower to keep their promises is not as strong as his adoration for their being. And thus he wrote away the words of their novel, till his time runs out or he makes good on his end of the bargain.”
