Perhaps iUniverse will require something from me to pacify their hurt feelings after I post this review of their services.

FOLKS read the article. I did not write this because I did business with them, I wrote it because a third party came to me for help.

Frankly, I got too much chops and mileage to fall for this crap.

"When AUTHOR first went to iUniverse, the up-front POD fee was a  reasonable $100. Later it increased to $300. Now the minimum package fee  is nearly $600, and the contract appears to be a co-publishing  agreement with term rights clauses, and high prices for basics that are  easily performed for free.

She decided to take her business elsewhere. She sent iUniverse a short letter of termination in response to their upselling more of their (IMHO) expensive packaging services to her.

She got this response from iUniverse, a finger-wagging tour de force of patronization (emphasis within text is mine.)"

Word count as of 4/11/18: 114,978 

93,821 of that is completed sections. 

21,157 is in-progress. Many of these sections are 50-80% done already.

11 remaining sections that have yet to be started (only two of which I actually know what I’m doing with). 

Still. Progress. Kind of embarrassing to think that in the past month I’ve only written 8,000 words. But I’m trying really hard to be happy with what I’ve been able to accomplish and with completing more sections. The only issue is that I really want to be focusing on my stuff, but I have an editing book to finish before I can do that. ^^; And I shall! That first, tomorrow. Then more novel stuff.

Beware the Vanity Press in Sheep's Clothing | The Digital Reader

Vanity presses like Author Solutions will do everything they can to hide the fact they are running a scam. Smaller operations will change their name so they can try to erase their history and attract new victims, while Author Solutions both recruits front companies and runs several websites as honeypot operations. These honeypots appear to be independent and offer advice about publishing when in fact the sites only recommend Author Solutions's overpriced marketing services. As the IBPA (Independent Book Publishers Association) discovered earlier this week, it can be difficult to tell the difference between a legit advice site and one of Author Solutions's traps. On Wednesday the IBPA hosted a webinar where Keith Ogorek, the president of a site called Author Learning Center, explained how to create an effective marketing plan. At first glance ALC appears to be a membership site where authors can learn how to publish their book. It claims to have launched in 2017, but Victoria Strauss notes that ALC belongs to Author Solutions and has been in operation since 2011. ALC website was redesigned in early 2017, w/ explicit mentions of AUthor Solutions removed. It was (& still is) promoted as a new venture launched in 2017 by Ogorek in response [...]
