Happy Anniversary Victor Hugo!!!
Hello everyone, and today I like to put in a shoutout for the day when famous French author Victor Hugo finished his most famous work Les Miserable. Which happens to be one of my top musicals, but alas, Phantom will always be my number one. Anyway, this is the man who penned down the Hunchback of Norte Dame, while the Disney version had a happy/satisfied ending, Hugo’s tale was much darker and more tragic. The only thing that they haven’t changed in both the book and movie adaptation is that Frollo (my favorite male Disney villain, while Maleficant being my absolute female villain of the franchise) is lusting after Esmeralda. When I first heard the song hellfire when I was younger, I knew something was up, but now that I’m older, I see that we’re dealing with an extremist bigot who can’t hid his cardinal lust. And that in the Descendants universe, that he has a daughter. Enough talk about that, what I mean to say is that Victor Hugo’s work played a huge role to me, since I’m part French, that it brings me joy that I have a connection to authors from both England and France (I’m also part English too). And I hope that his legacy continues to thrive, with Les Mis being one of the longest running musicals on Broadway.
