“No, Iris did not make it so it would be spring forever. Seasons change, and plants change, and the tree’s sweet-scented blossoms will one day drop. But the gift of the flower is its fruit. Sweet-scented blossoms give way to sweet-tasting apples.
At the time of harvest, we look forward and back. We brew the next year’s cider, we write our fond wishes, we bottle and seal them inside the family cask. We open last year’s cider, we find what wishes saw fruition, we share our cask with friends. We sing. We celebrate. We feast on fruits and nuts and all the gifts of Iris.
Iris did not make it so it would be spring forever. She made it so we could live in health and happiness, so that a beautiful spring would mean a bountiful harvest ...”
