Summary:
Coronation day.
The recent demise of his father, King of Cielos, has Castiel next in line for the throne.
It's Dean's job to disrupt that.
What ensues following their chance encounter is a bond as profound as the depths that surround them — something that both are willing to topple entire nations to protect.
Excerpt:
As the procession moved along, Castiel's anxiety rose. He scanned the crowd, searching for something to latch onto — he found a pair of green eyes in the sea of thousands, ones that were already boring holes into him when he met them with an intense look of his own. The strange mer didn't look away when Castiel caught him staring. He struck Castiel as odd, even interesting — someone who had come to watch the festivities but not involve himself in them; even though everyone else around him cheered and clapped, the green-eyed mer maintained his heated gaze on him as if glued in place.
Just as Castiel's convoy was about to veer to the northeast and away from his newfound interest, a projectile — decidedly unlike the seaweed stars — whizzed past him, piercing the sponge-plush backing of the throne just to the side of him. In shock, he mindlessly grabbed the lanced object, yanked it from the seat-back of the throne to reveal a tell-tale cobalt-tipped spear. Vengazano mer were near.
He was surprised to find that the spear had sliced his side open on its way into the plush cushion behind him, his blood now filling the atmosphere around him in thick red clouds. The next weapon nicked Castiel's ear, making more blood blossom from the cut.
"GET DOWN, SINK LOW!" called Balthazar.
Castiel's convoy then began swimming downward with Castiel still strapped to the seat, powerless as to which direction he went in. The shouting and sudden diversion off course caused an uproar among the gathered public, potential victims swimming every which way as more Vengazano mer launched spears into the frenzied crowd. Castiel turned just in time to see his green-eyed mer from moments ago deploy another spear — directly into the chest of his faithful Balthazar.
"NO!"
