For Something is Seriously Wrong in this School - Chapter 16: For the Dead and the Departed
Ah yes, the last chapter of arc/week three.
I really pushed Kokona to be in a more leadership role, maybe not enough since it was more pushed to the back of the plot but I always pictured her with a lot of determination and care for her friends. Originally I wrote Saki just as fierce as they talk with the other presidents but we both gave Kokona the spotlight, this was her scene.
I love them both. I really hope I did a good job of writing them. For humor and fluff I think I did well, hence the comic relief and sweetness from their scenes. For more serious tones, they’re both strong in their own ways, same thing with the other presidents too.
Uekiya is canonically a motherly character but here I gave her a lot of struggles because she took too many responsibilities. She’s a great character to write and perphas I could’ve done more to treat her like a main character like how I’ve treated Kokona but I think I’ve done good for Uekiya in terms of learning about her through her actions towards others. Like her whole things is support.
The whole thing for the entire student body is support and whether or not they actually do it. It’s mostly the named character that are ones with a good morality while I write the rest of the school, the adults, and even the world as the shitty morality of not being supportive of each other.
Budo, while is a president, I gave him more of a second in command vibe as he follows other people’s. He doesn’t particularly mind it because he trusts his friends. But he’ll always be very concerned with everything he learns about.
The main thing I kept in mind for this scene is that this, as of this moment, is all of the other characters’ last scene before Oka traps the school.
They smile with hope before the despair falls.
And then the Ayano scene.
Originally, I was going to kill off Kizana but I thought, nah, I lot more things can happen if she lives.
Such as Ayano’s mental state! To her this is the first person she saved, only in a physical combat manner. Technically she saved Kokona and Info in the past chapters as she befriends them. She still needs help to save herself.
I think another yandere fic inspired this scene was a AyanoxBudo fic where she’s accused of murder but Budo busts in and convinces the teacher no she didn’t do a murder. Yeah, that and other fics made me want to write for the ship.
Instead I wrote this long as story! And I focused it more on Ayano’s conflict of her identity and way of thinking.
And so this “trial” scene became a little difficult to write because I didn’t want to copy that mentioned fic. It was definitely the inspiration and as I plan out the scene it became more concrete with everything I added til now.
I brought of the first murder - I will never give her a canon name unfortunately, I’m too far gone, Megami’s relations with her dad and the school, her dad’s hit request for the Nemesis Organization, the school’s utter lack of care for the students and vanity, the counselor has just given up trying to help students, oh right the rival cameo - she has totally fucked teachers only, that’s it, adults and consent y’all, what else um, oh yeah Megami knows about Ayano’s killing tendency.
Okay that’s a long list and there’s probably more but I should talk about Oka.
She has a new demon power: FOG
I think in my earlier notes I wrote her just bring down a dome of darkness onto the school but nah, I had to build up this plot point. Thus another attack flashback that is very important to the story.
For the ritual of opening up the portal, I just think candle and blood is a neat way of opening up a dimensional rift. And yes, it’s totally the demon speaking throughout this entire scene. I’ll like further explain as best as I can more on the demon possessed-Midori clones. Only because we haven’t seen her in action yet.
Lastly Kaga. From the canon information, he wants world domination. I took that and ran with it. I gave him a crush on Oka - its not going well btw, a bromance with Budo - seems to be going well, at least one alliance/semi-friendship with Info and Ayano - they still hate him, and well I’ve done practically nothing with the canon of him being obsessed with Megami or whatever. Mostly I dialed it back where he believes that they are on the same level, intellectually speaking.
And then there’s another goal other than world domination with a demon.
Hint hint nudge nudge, it’ll all be explained in the final arc/week.
