It's really true that Janeway is way more comfortable in a battle than our other captains. Kirk finesses, Picard tries to avoid it, Archer resents it, even Sisko grieves the weight of it, but Janeway is down to fight.

She's knows her crew, she knows what her ship can do, and is happy to shove it up some alien's ass. That "do NOT fuck with me" attitude got her far in the Delta Quadrant.

Would have been absolute terror against the Dominion.

And I love how that is a trait that visibly increases over the run of the series. Now, I watched it a while ago, but I distinctly remember how she went from scientist in a bad situation to determined warrior more and more

God I love Peridots characterization. I was rewatching "When it rains" (the episode where Peridot tells Steven about the cluster and he tells her about thunder) and its honestly brilliant how they mix worldbuilding and character so naturally

Like

Steven: You don't know about rain?

Peridot: I don't know anything without my screen.

With just two lines we have established worldbuilding (Homeworld doesnt have rain) and character (Peridot needs her screen to know stuff. She relies on it)

There's also a lot of interesting behavior from Peridot throughout the episode specifically relating to Steven. How whenever she feels in danger she immiedatly hides behind him and how she "defended" him from The Crystal Gems in the end.

Because she doesnt trust him. Not until after he tells her about rain. So why does she shelter behind him? She shows why a bit later when she reveals that she thought Steven was a type of Quartz. Quartz's are guards, they protect people. So naturally she thought Steven would protect her.

She also doesnt realize that The Crystal Gems are a family. She doesn't even know what a family is. Its why when Garnet tells Steven he was supposed to be watching Peridot, she steps in to protect him. She believes he's going to get in trouble, that he failed to do his job.

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
