I also enjoy the headcanon that the Lan clan was the perfect place for little Autistic Wangji to grow up. He could live a perfect scheduled quiet life and get praise all the time as long as he obeyed the rules.

Of course there are a lot of ships that don't follow this trends but I find it interesting that this specific type is so prominent.

Idk what conclusions to draw from this or even if they should be about content creators or fandoms.

I thought I already threw this on Tumblr, but I guess not! I originally wrote this out on Discord as an extension of this post. I present: the long version of my autistic Lan Wangji headcanon.

Affect: -Not very expressive, to the point that others comment on it -Speaks in a monotone or with little intonation -Known for talking in short sentences or not responding at all

Social skills: -Has perfect manners but usually doesn’t respond when someone leaves the “script” -Doesn’t make small talk -Aware of social conventions but still struggles with them -Hates parties. *Hates* them. But sits through them because it’s what a cultivator does.

Rigidity: -Never lies, known for being honest -Refuses to bend rules for the sake of a social situation (won’t drink alcohol at a party) -Always follows rules to the letter…unless he thinks they are unjust (he has his own moral code that he follows consistently) -Sleeps at 9pm and wakes at 5am *even when he doesn’t have a way to tell time.* This speaks to a *very* strict routine. (I suspect that most Lans do not follow this rule *that* closely. But he takes it very seriously, and he likes it, because it’s a consistent routine.) -Holds others to his very high standard Stims: -Playing the guqin -Martial arts (sword fighting) -That one phrase he says to WWX a lot as a teenager (I've seen it translated a couple different ways: shameless or boring) -Enjoys one (1) scent of incense for his entire life (sandalwood) Sensory sensitivity: -Doesn’t like to be touched or touch others (he mentions this) -Prefers bland food (this is mentioned) -Very particular about his clothing (this could fall into several of these categories, but it’s always clean, and I headcanon that he’s also very particular about the fabric and the texture, how the weight falls over his shoulders, etc.) Special interests: -The guqin (playing it, composing music, probably history as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he made his own guqin) -Lan-style cultivation (he gains proficiency in it at a young age; this could include swordsmanship specifically) -Cooking? (He suddenly reveals he’s a good cook in the novel without it coming up before, so hard to say) Note that several of these are also Lan rules, which is why they slip under the radar and don’t seem unusual. However, the *degree* to which he follows those rules is unusual, since he’s described as being the ideal/incomparable Lan.
