Stanley doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions in a healthy matter. In moments of extreme stress he either doesn’t panic and remains eerily calm (but like I’m a numb way) or he starts laughing uncontrollably (which leads to him “not” crying and having a panic attack). He has unregulated emotions since he bottles everything up until he gets extremely cranky and doesn’t know why and he hates it. This is all due to Filbrick always telling Stan to suck it up and man up throughout his childhood, then later having to really have to dismiss his feeling because he needed to survive for ten years, then it was having no one to turn to (and his fear of hurting the people he loved) for almost 30).
Unfortunately he’s not as sneaky as he thinks he is and despite what everyone else thinks soos is very observant. When he starts working for Stan he catches early on that Stan sometimes shuts down, it’s not often and usually after work hours. Except one day he shuts down during a tour after a guy with sunglasses started to yell at him for selling this fake shit and not knowing what to do Soos took over. He kicked the guy out, took stab to the kitchen, then continued the tour (he has it memorized). Afterwards Stan thanks soos and despite feeling ashamed of having to have this teen take care of him, he’s grateful for how he handled the situation (and for understanding).
From there on soos (and sometimes Wendy) help stab whenever he shuts down, and if he sneaks in a couple bucks into their paycheck than that’s no one’s business.
When the twins come it’s only happens once but thankfully he’s able to shrug it off as him being tired.
Post portal it’s one of those time where he bottles everything up with the stress of the portal, the kids finding out and still not fully trusting him, his brother still hating him: the feds, reconstructing the shack, everything is just stressful. After another fight with ford, his twin mumbles something cruel under his breath and Stan snaps, but as in he starts giggling to himself, his breath picks up and he starts letting out small cries before clamming up completely quiet and then locking himself himself in his room for the rest of the day. Ford is confused, even scared. Soos already knows it’s one of those days so he proceeds to leave food outside stand door, doing there secret knock and waiting patiently for Stan to eat the food, which either takes up minutes or hours.
Ford is confused asking a million questions only for soos to get mad at him saying that he should know better. Eventually Stan leaves his room but he’s awfully quiet, doesn’t speak or even make a squeak, the kids are worried but soos reassures them that he’ll be better soon. By the next day Stan is back to normal and when the kids ask him about what happened he brushes them off. (With ford he just stares and remains silent)
