Serious questions fellow literature nerds
Does canon matter
Like is set continuity the only reality of a world or doesn’t fandom nullify cannon,
Like Cannon if we are having a real conversation was problematic to begin with. Cannon is like default.
Unfortunately to many creators use White Straight amab, cis het nuerotypical Ablebodied characters as Cannon or default.
Abolishing cannon would give more validity to fan works especially fan works centering characters from oppressed perspectives that have super valid points story analysis etc.
Like one day I’m going to go into depth about why the literary cannon is a lot of writers who hid parts of themselves from a society that would oppress them for those identities.
However abolishing Canon both the set Eurocentric literary canon and forced continuity (which usually ends up more confusing than it began (Disney Star Wars cannon vs George Lucas Star Wars cannon having opposing cannons.)
Like when A cannon cancels itself out and then becomes multiple cannons.
In reality abolishing cannon would do what cannon does anyway dilute itself
