What is the perception of Louisiana French in France?
oh thats a fun one!
there are a lot of varieties of french spoken all over the world, and cajun french doesnt really have a unique reputation like youd maybe expect. québecois french is notoriously considered funny/weird in france, so maybe youd think cajun would be the same, but it really isnt!
part of it is cajun is really easily parsed by french ears, and if you were to speak cajun in paris for example most people would just assume youre an american speaking french as a second language. ive met a few people here who are cadian and get really annoyed that everyone asks if theyd be "more comfortable speaking english" even though french is their first language lol
so basically, id say french people arent really aware of it and generally tend to think its just french with an american accent
sidebar, one cool thing we learned is when speaking english in the louisiana dialect some people use "make" the same way french people use "faire" (eg: "im making the groceries") and weve actually integrated that in our way of speaking because we always struggle with the make/do difference and that just gets rid of it. i wonder if theres any other parts of it we could borrow to make speaking english feel more natural to us, but im too lazy to actually research a whole ass dialect for that lmao
