The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a software malfunction may result in the anti-lock brake system control module

Chrysler parent Stellantis said Saturday it is recalling 1.46 million vehicles worldwide due to a software malfunction in the anti-lock brake system that can increase the risk of a crash. The recall includes nearly 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks from the 2019 and 2021-2024 model years in the United States, as well as about 159,000 vehicles in Canada, 13,000 in Mexico and 61,000 outside North America. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a software malfunction may result in the anti-lock brake system control module disabling the electronic stability control system. The issue means the vehicles do not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard on electric stability control systems.

The United States military command in Saigon said, today that 3,000 more marines had been sent to the area of the demilitarized zone and that a new base was being built south of the zone, out of the range of enemy guns that have harassed Marine positions for weeks. Earlier, 4,000 Army men were moved to within 20 miles of Da Nang to relieve pressure on the marines in the I Corps area, comprising South Vietnam’s five northernmost provinces.

American officials in Saigon were said to have been troubled recently by an intensifying anti-American mood among South Vietnamese students, civil servants and editorial writers.

Bolivian Army dispatches said Ernesto Che Guevara, the Cuban Communist guerrilla leader, was killed Sunday in a clash in southwest Bolivia. 

During a speech to the Democratic National Committee in Washington, National Chairman John M. Bailey accused Republicans of playing “an opportunist game” on Vietnam. Mr. Bailey predicted that President Johnson's popularity would rise as soon as the Republican party was required to take a “firm stand” on Vietnam. On Capitol Hill, Senator Hugh Scott of Pennsylvania, a former Republican National Chairman, advised his party to moderate its criticism of the Administration’s Vietnam policies. 

The Federal Government, after some second thoughts and further study, reaffirmed its decision to require the installation of shoulder harnesses as standard equipment on passenger cars. The doubt about the harness requirements arose when car makers and the Public Health Service warned that the use of the harness might involve harmful side effects.
