I keep thinking about it too. How Hela can’t break Loki, not matter how much she tries because even though he looks fragile he is made of metal and magic.

And how Thor keeps horrifying everyone by talking to Loki, treating him as if he’s alive and a fellow Asgardian, and how Loki horrifies them even more by acting as if he understands Thor.

And how Loki will craft himself his own voice since the dwarfs didn’t see fit to give him one. They meant for Loki to be decorative and beautiful, to show off their skills in metal work, but Loki wants to talk to Thor.

I was thinking about the automaton loki story and I was wondering - does loki sleep? Also, if hela's alive, is she the queen or going to be queen?

I don’t think Loki needs to sleep. His powered by magic, but it would be cute to see Thor trying to convince him to sleep. Loki is hardly the sort of toy someone would want to sleep with - he’s not soft and he’s cold to the touch being made of metal, but Thor doesn’t care. He’d convince Loki to lie down with him and would embrace him. Loki would listening to Thor’s heartbeat slowing down and try to mick it with magic, slowing the whirl of his cogs so he could fake sleep. 

In regards to Hela, no, she’s not going to be Queen. Asgard has always seemed very patriarchal to me - Sif being a warrior women is considered odd, the Valkyrie and Hela are airbrushed from the history of the Kingdom and the building of it’s empire, the very fact that their rulers Odin and Frigga are known as the All-Father and the All-Mother. So I think Hela’s right to the throne has been superseded by Thor simply because Thor was born with a penis. 

This is why Thor has been given this amazing automaton by the dwarfs. They’re trying to charm the future King. Hela hates that Thor has been given such a gift. Loki symbolizes everything Thor has that she doesn’t and that’s why she tries to destroy him.

What does Automaton Loki look like?

I imagine that he was modeled on the Jotun - they dwarfs wouldn’t make a toy that looked like an Aesir and the metal they forged Loki from is blue so it served well to make him look Jotun. He has hinged joints. 

He has red eyes, pretty gem stones sanded and softened, and long dark hair, which looks as if it should be soft but is metal as well. The dwarfs are incredibly skilled in their work. (and I steal from the legend of Sif’s hair) 

There is a little catch on his back were he can be opened up so his cogs and the magic powering him can be accessed. Loki cannot do it for himself and he hates that. 

The dwarfs didn’t give him any type of genitalia - why would they? Also, they didn’t think Thor was going to want to fuck his Automaton. Loki will make himself just as he makes his own voice, but it does mean he didn’t require clothes. Thor does take to dressing him, because he begins to feel strange about Loki being nude all the time, and Loki will choose his own clothing eventually because that is part of his self-determination.

For the 5+ headcanons thing: AUTOMATON LOKI. i need more lil tidbits about them.

1. The dwarfs created Loki to be able to perform simple movements, mimicking how Aesir move .When they present their wonderful creation to Thor, they have Loki wound up so he will bow to the Prince which Loki does, but he also raises his head up and stares at Thor throughout which is not what he was supposed to do. 

2. Thor is amused by the present, especially when he realizes that Loki is meant to be a doll, something to admire and show off to people, but not to touch. Why would anyone bring such a gift to Prince Thor? But he knows the dwarfs did it because people will come to see Prince Thor’s amazing moving doll and be so delighted by the dwarfs work that they will commission them. Once people have got enough of gawping at this invention, Loki will be forgotten. 

3. Thor finds himself talking to Loki as if he were a real person. It is small things at first - complaining about how guests have asked to see Loki, or apologizing that he must bring Loki out once again to perform his tricks. It’s all joking at first, but Loki turns his head  or offers his hand and looks at him in such a way that Thor begins to believe Loki really does understand him. 

4. Once Loki begins to speak, there is a great faction of the court who believe he is a weapon sent to kill Thor and that he should be melted down before he can complete his mission. Thor refuses. Loki also refuses, but Thor’s word caries more weight since no-one but Thor views Loki as truly alive. 

5. Loki is both proud and sad about being the only one of him in the whole universe. The dwarfs never are commissioned to make another. Sometimes, he thinks, it would be nice to have another person who understood what it was to be eternal magic inhabiting metal.

What's Automaton Loki like before he wakes up? Is he the stone, so before there was just nothing besides him, just void, then he's able to wake up? Or does he come into being the first time the dwarves put the key in him and wind him up? Does he learn to be more human?

He doesn’t come into being until the dwarfs awaken him. He isn’t supposed to have any conscious, but they power him with magic. He is wound up, but then he doesn’t wined down. His core is magic and that powers him. 

His conscious develops. When he’s first awoken, his understanding of himself is limited. He is a thing because the dwarfs made him to be a thing. It’s only with Thor that he gains a name - because Thor asks what he’s called - and naming things is power. When Loki is called Loki, the magic that powers him latches on to it and he becomes fully alive. Then the magic is just what Loki is rather than a power source. 

As for learning to be human, I guess that depends on what you mean by human. Does he have emotions? Yes. Does he have wants? Yes. Does he think? Yes. But he wouldn’t view himself as human but rather the first and last of his own race.

Ok first of Rulers Make Bad Lovers, this fic... I enjoyed a lot, more than a lot, I actually read 3 times already cause it is so freaking good and interest! Second of, automaton loki... I hope there will be more, I quite like it alot. Thanks for them I love them so much

The next chapter of Rulers will be going up on Friday. And then depending on how depressing Infinity Wars is, I may pause for a bit jut to let us all recover, but Rulers all ready to go so I will keep an active update schedule. 

I am currently trying to grapple with all my Automaton!Loki ideas and find a plot, but there will be more!
