In Homo Machina (Human Machine, a.k.a. Gay Machine), Gabriela Ruiz combines sculpture with video and surveillance footage, constructing a life-size digital console that functions as a self-portrait. The work reflects on the ways technological systems shape visibility, labor, and control, particularly for brown bodies. Drawing on early Windows-era digital aesthetics, Ruiz rejects the sterile minimal look of contemporary technology in favor of bold color, excess, camp, and spectacle.

did you know you can just post a full tiktok to tumblr and then link to the page for it underneath? i didn't! ...well, i did, but it didn't occur to me. this video is from [link: here]--it's my pet jumping spider, mako, being not great at the jumping part. i've been making tiktoks of my bugs, so i'll be crossposting them here now! so far i have videos of jumping spiders, an orchid mantis, and isopods.

many have told me seeing footage of my bugs in a safe and controlled context has helped with their phobias. it puts a face to the scary thing, as it were, since my bugs are specific individuals with their own personalities presented fondly by someone who loves and knows them and is recognized positively in turn. if you are not a bug fan, maybe consider giving mine a chance!

that said, if you need to blacklist any bug-related tags to be safe, PLEASE do it. your mental health is the most important thing! engage safely or not at all, and don't push yourself too hard. you know your limits better than i do; please work within them.
