Baahubali Headcanons

these are a few headcanons i have of bahubali, after the conclusion yes ik it has been 10 years but i still think abt these u will find most of these as avanthika centric (i loved her character, its had so much potential but they did not protray it)

mahendra sketches, when he has time, or whenever he's bored

its usually avanthika, rajamata, halls of the palace, or anything he sees

devasena keeps the first sketch of hers neatly inside a chest in her room

shiva repaints their tattoos once the colours start fading

he's a fair and just ruler

the first thing he did was abolish slavery,

he struggles with imposter syndrome

most of his subjects see him as amerendra baahubali and gets constantly compared with him

sure he picks up military skills with inhuman speed but its not as refined as his father

amarendra had a lifetime of practice while mahendra has quite less in comparison

he prefers the administrative work, as he is more used to it, having received a less complex training during the village

avanthika handles matters related to the military more often as she has been raised to be a warrior

there were a lot of people who opposed her both as a military commander and a potential queen

but she had devasena's support, who actually recommended her to receive tutelage from kattappa

he was hesitant at first not because she's a woman, but because he usually trained the men, women had their own separate division (sivagami had female guards, so im assuming women can take up arms in maheshmati but its mostly just for protection)

nevertheless, after their first encounter, he saw something in her, the potential , the spark in her eyes reminded him of sivagami

he has mahendra and avanthika spar each other for practice, only to realize that mahendra lets avanthika win each time and she doesn't fight with her usual vigour

so he makes them fight alongside each other, bad move, the training grounds are littered with soliders on the floor

he sees mahendra looking at avanthika with the same lovesick eyes that amerendra had for devasena

devasena watches, as his son and daughter in law (yes she considers avanthika her daughter in law), a smile creeping up her lips, while whispering "i see so much of us in them my dear, hopefully the world isnt as cruel to them"

id like to think that the soliders flinch around her and are hesitant to be her guards, as she has killed so many of their comrades

many nobles try pushing their daughters into a marriage alliance with mahendra, he gets so fed up, that he get up from the throne and blurts out that his marriage is already fixed

everyone is in shock, rajamata sighs, and avanthika stares in horror

the nobles cause an uproar, they demand to know who is his betrothed and he gestures towards avantihka, who stands in the position of commander

they question her identity and her lineage, devasena defends her, stating that being a kshatriya is defined by their actions not their birth

off topic but i want to believe she is some sort of royalty, maybe the daughter of a kuntalan noble, a friend of jayavarma (jayavarma adopted her, we all saw the leniency in his eyes)

the court is adjourned abruptly and mahendra is called by devasena, he enters the room to find avanthika and kattapa

devasena is upset, not because of his choice, in fact she approves of his choice, but of his short tempered nature

avanthika is distraught, she loves shiva ofc she does, but found herself hesitating of the idea of marriage because she doesnt not have the qualities to be a queen

she was a born and brought up warrior, who knew nothing but military strategies, and techniques

none the less the damage is done, and so she begins her royal training earlier than expected, and does well

avanthika and shiva often go back to their garden to escape from the palace

or they go back to amburi village from time to time to visit his parents

personally i think that since he placed the shivaling under the waterfall, his prayers have always been fulfilled

however there was one time where his prayer was not fulfilled, he prayed for a daughter (he's a girl dad ur honour), and nine months later maheshmati welcomes a prince, (avanthika prayed harder)

his prayers are fulfilled tho, when 2 princesses are born 2 years later

The overall background picture of the zine is Mahendra and Avanthika looking into each other's eyes, taken from the song 'Pacha Theeyanu Nee' (malayalam version of the song). The feather Mahendra drew on Avanthika's shoulder sits together with the bird on Mahendra's shoulder to make a peacock.

Page five has three repeated pictures of an older Devesena as we first see her in the movies. Her hands are chained and her face is overshadowed by the shine of the sun.

Page six has the words, "shiva wants to hold you. nevermind that your. hands are bloody. that you were a thing. trained for war." In the bottom right corner, we see a part of the shot where Avanthika looks into the waterfall and sees herself look 'beautiful.'

Page seven has the words, "beautiful goddess. pure and white. if we put a sword in your hand. we can excuse that you are." In the bottom left corner, the rest of the shot of Avanthika looking into the waterfall is seen where she looks shocked at the transformation Mahendra has forced onto her.

I loved Bahubaali (The second one is better, but one is good too!) But I think that, if Shiva had the chance to dress Avanthika in a cute skirt, then Avanthika should've had the chance to do the same to him. So here's me, fixing the issue!

(Favorite) Color

Often, the things we love most, are the things we cannot have. She is accustomed to the drab colors of the camouflage garment she wears. But one day, when Devasena is reinstated as Mahishmati’s rightful queen, Avanthika will wear a bright yellow and magenta saari. She would celebrate her queen’s liberation by adding a touch of color to her own life.

Mirrors don’t just show us our reflection. They also acquaint us with others like us who share our destiny. Avanthika didn’t know it, but she was destined to be the mother of Mahishmati’s lions just as 6,000 miles away, Daenerys Targaryen was destined to be the mother of dragons.

Mythological Creature

Gandharvas existed only in fairytales. The tall stranger in front her was just a bumbling village idiot. But what if it was indeed her Gandharva kumara in disguise, come to whisk her away to a land of freedom and plenty? 

Nature

Her rough, callused hands longed for relief of another kind, which nature could not provide. Minnows nibbling away at dead skin were a temporary and slightly disturbing remedy for a much deeper ill. Did she not deserve to find her sanctuary in the hands of another who she could call just her own?

Prophecy

Slayer of a demon-- her mother’s last words may have been her dying wish or a prophecy waiting to be fulfilled. For Avanthika, they are one and the same. 

Religion

She did not believe in God as others did. There was a God out there, indeed. But he did not come to earth for his devotees. They were on their own. Why else, would Devasena be imprisoned in chains while the devil laughed in triumph each night?

Role Model

There was no one to look up to. Role models were for children who grew up in peacetime, undisturbed by the tumult of harsh, nomadic life. When food and safety came close at the heels of mortal danger, the only creatures to look up to, were the monkeys-- for they were swift and better at climbing trees. 

Scar(s)

She had a few from the various skirmishes she had been in, but none were particularly significant or unsightly. It was a relief because try as she might, her vanity got the better of her when she stood before her beloved while his eyes drank in all of her. 

Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Cardinal Virtues

If sin was measured in murder, she was a sinner ready for the gates of hell. But she would kill a thousand more until her dagger was at the throat of Bhallaladeva. Her final act would be a virtue that would free her queen and wash away her sins with the shredded remains of the devil’s body.

Personality aesthetic: Spirit Animals

Avanthika: Butterfly- At first glance, butterflies seem out-of-place for warrior girl Avanthika, but here’s my reasoning for that- Butterfly symbolizes resilience, hope and change. Avanthika carried the hope of the resurgent Kuntalans, and carried it wonderfully well. She changed from a warrior woman to a woman wielding power with Mahendra at the end (I refuse to believe that Avanthika would be a pretty girl without a voice). She, in my opinion, embodies hope and change, so it’s a butterfly for her.

Devasena- Phoenix- Phoenixes are all about eternal life and spiritual power, and Devasena has the ability to rise out of the ashes of her old life in spades, so it’s the phoenix for her!

Amarendra Baahubali- Unicorn- Unicorns are a symbol of high ideals, nobility, innocence, belief and holding oneself to high standards. To me, Amarendra Baahubali embodies every one of these qualities, so an unicorn it is for him!

Sivagami- Dragon- The dragon I have in mind for Sivagami is one of the Asian cultures, where the dragon is the guardian of the Kingdom. The dragon is righteous, wise and practical, but very set in its ways. Rouse it, and you will never be forgiven. Sivagami does seem like a dragon to me. Powerful, intimidating and very set on her own way.

Kattappa- Panther- Panthers are powerful protectors, a symbol of valor. Panthers are extremely protective of their peers, and it brought Kattappa to my mind, so I figured, why not?
