Jessica Marais as Denna – A Mord'Sith from Legend of the Seeker
LEGEND OF THE SEEKER 2x07 'Resurrection'
I know a ton of Kingkiller fans, or ex-fans as well tbh, have really soured on Denna, see Devi or Auri as the woman Kvothe speaks of (which, mmm), or just find her irritating or manipulative. But everytime I reread the series I still sob when Kvothe and Denna reunite after Sir Savien, it's just... it's true love, man! Yeah they're both dumb and have too many secrets and it won't end well we all know that, but like... it's true, true love.
“If you can find someone like that, someone who you can hold and close your eyes to the world with, then you’re lucky. Even if it only lasts for a minute or a day.”
That's Denna, man, it's her.

I'm now thinking about Denna and her flowers again, how even though she does agree about the selas flowers suiting her when seeing them in person, she originally preferred the daisies. And it just kills me because it's such a sweet and vulnerable thing for her to say. Denna (much like Kvothe, I love them both so much), is always on a stage of sorts, she has to perform and appear a certain way.
Part of that performance is being seen as special and rare because that's the role that has allowed her to survive so far. So for her to tell Kvothe (someone who is important to her and who she doesn't want to loose) that she would be the daisy? I love that, she's being open about something she can't usually talk about! And while I do love their scene in the Maer's garden I can't help but think that rather than it being a moment of Denna realizing how Kvothe sees her (she is after all something rare and special and delicate in his eyes), I'm sometimes afraid it's a moment of Denna putting up the armor she's used to wearing with everyone else around him.
doodles from over the course of my reread and a vashet drawing i love you vashet
More Name of the Wind doodles! I am CHUGGING thru this book im hooked fr, Kvothe needs a hug on god
I have no idea how the fandom will react to such a headcanon, but seeing as the kingkiller chronicles hasn’t really shy-ed away from lgbt representation.
Is there any way Bast and Denna is the same person? Bast himself I believe is bisexual and in TNRBD did essentially say trans rights(yes, the cat… shut up)
Idk, i feel like TNOTW doesn’t debunk it, kvothe and bast clearly has some past and we don’t know much of fae lore within this world yet, maybe it was some reborn situation, or he genuinely just is transgender. Could explain why in the end of TNOTW he says “I want my Reshi back.” I also just think they kinda act similar if that makes sense?
Kvothe himself have only really been into Denna and I’ve seen theory’s that he’s actually just a closeted/doesn’t know yet gay dude..
Then theres also how fast Bast was to call her ugly. I know kvothe did say something along the lines of “you didn’t meet” before going “oh” after bast reminded him but that could genuinely just be him forgetting they are the same.
Food for thought I guess and I’m curious what others might think of it
Again, I have no idea if the fandom is too lgbt friendly, especially in today’s world.. but I haven’t seen it float around so
