nothing tops zuko saying "but I want you to know, I am so, so sorry Uncle" and crying as he gets on his knees and apologizes to Iroh and Iroh taking him in his arms and reconciling with him immediately. because he loves him. nothing tops that. do better, modern shows. take notes
The atla obsession has been coming back to me I’m rewatching the orginal series 🤭🤭
Avatar: The Last Airbender, 20 Years Later
Twenty years ago today, I watched the premiere of Avatar: The Last Airbender when it first aired on Nickelodeon. I watched every new episode as they came out week after week, enjoying every single one in turn. It was the first show I ever watched that wasn't purely episodic, the first show I watched that had real substance behind it. It inspired me to do martial arts as a kid, it got me interested in other cultures and made me want to explore the world.
Now I've been to over twenty-five countries across four continents, I can cook meals from a dozen different cultures and have read epics from around the world. Avatar shaped my interests and childhood desires more than anything else outside of my immediate family, and even then it colored a lot of what my parents tried to impart on me.
The lessons this show taught me and so many others are universal and timeless. The impact it had on all of us who grew up with it and the world of entertainment as a whole can not be denied.
Even now, two decades later, people are still trying to recapture the success and incredible writing of this show. From the growth of the characters, the worldbuilding, the depictions of the impact of war, the comedy and emotional punches to the gut, the relationships and dynamics between the characters, and the respect given to each and every character that appeared on the screen. There are few, if any, shows or movies that have come out since then that can compare to Avatar in even one of these categories. This amazing storytelling has inspired people to become writers and artists, it was the driving force for people to expand their horizons and learn new skills and about different peoples.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a near-unparalleled icon of fiction that I honestly believe helped make many of the people who were lucky enough to watch it growing up better people than they would have been if it never existed. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
Well, I'm back!!!!,
Since New Year of 2020 I did some drawings, but because some personal reasons (cof cof, laziness). I didn't finish them until now (late February lol)
Anyways, so I made a Gorillaz x Avatar crossover!!! I was listening to Gorillaz music while making the fanart lol
So, Aang as 2D! Toph as Murdoc! Katara as Noodle! Sokka as Russel!
Here's the original doodle btw:
I had some issues, first, the illumination color, I first decided to put it as the colors of the original album, but I also wanted to be in a more way of its own lol, so, with the exception of Aang, I changed them to their iconic colors, Toph to green, Katara to light blue, Sokka as a deeper blue!
So...what ya think owo?
