She had been stuck in meetings all week unable to rest much. Thus, she took it upon herself to go shopping that weekend. She had much work to do later, but this was a rare moment for her. For her to be not worrying about anything except herself. Contrary to what most people thought, she had little time to think about her own desires and wants. On the outside, it seemed as though her appearance and lifestyles were all done by her own choice, but it was really to fit or blend in within the yakuza world. She always needed to be on top or else she could be easily crushed by another family member or an unwanted outsider.
However, none of those thoughts occupied her right now. Even though she was sure some lonely eye was eyeing her movement, she wasn’t doing anything related to work, so she didn’t mind. She was careful to not make her whereabouts known when it pertained to business. For any “leisure time” she had, she made sure everyone knew. That way no one could accuse her of covering up anything.
She quietly hummed to herself as she strolled inside the brightly lit mall with its marble, tiled floors. She hadn’t planned to buy any item in particular, but it was nice not to be in some office or stuffy clubhouse. She slightly smiled when the display of small pastry store, located within the mall, caught her eyes. The scent wafted to her nose as she relished the sweet intoxicating smell.
“Too bad. I would have loved to ordered some.” She spoke to herself.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t eat much sweets despite how much she loved them to death. She did bake her own, which didn’t have much sugar and had healthier substitutes.
She shrugged her shoulders and sighed. Even the sweetest things in life had to be done in moderation.
Had she not become the Ryuujin leader, she would have loved to become a pianist or a baker even. She would have pursued many other avenues and be a more “normal” human being. She would have lived a life filled with much more ignorance and bliss.
Jiayi paused to watch the crowd milling around and noticed families and lovers spending time together. Could she have been one of those people? Would she have enjoyed being one of those people? Oh, goodness. She was becoming all philosophical within her own mind. She was sure she would be accused of being too old and needing to retire if any one of her subordinates knew.
“That would be embarrassing.” She softly muttered to herself.
