So earlier today I got my 28mm scale WW1 British Army QF13-Pounder from Great War Miniatures, via North Star Figures.
First time I built an artillery piece cast out of metal. Lots of the little bits of flash I remember the old metal GW models having, so I had to remove them. The worst bit though: no instructions. Not even online. I had to go around Google Images looking up pictures of the actual QF 13-pounder to find out how everything went.
The fretting was worse than the actual construction though. Everything went together pretty damn easily. Had to wiggle the gunshield around the barrel though, but nothing too tedious. I have somehow lost the handle bar that goes onto the rear beam, though I can fashion an ad hoc one out of a length of paper clip.
Sandbags are simply from Renedra and the wall is going to get progressively higher once I get the crew in.
Story behind the model is that it’s for my 1938: A Very British Civil War army which will be a force of Welsh Nationalists using some pilfered/liberated army equipment in order to fight off the Loyalists from the south and the communist People’s Assault Column from Liverpool. So the Welsh Nationalists will be mainly focused on defensive fighting in Wales rather than being aggressors.
