a/n: i got lost in the sauce with this one … bucky hitting it from the back just does things to me
i feel like present day bucky is an ass man.
back in the 40s everything was well and truly covered so he didn’t really have a preference but with modern day changes bucky can’t help himself.
especially in summer.
he’s been on the boat helping sam fix a rotor when you come down to offer a few beers. he accepts with a smile and watches you leave.
sam sees but doesn’t say anything bless his heart.
it builds over time. quick stolen glances that embolden themselves to full on staring. his eyes falling to your ass as you bend over to grab something, groaning internally as your shorts ride up ever so slightly.
he thinks he’s being slick when you reach for something on the top shelf and he comes up behind you to grab it, your ass barely brushing against him as you turn around.
it all comes to a head at the pool.
sam has invited bucky with the promise of a shaded corner to sulk in but other intentions were at play.
it hit him like a truck. you did.
he doesn’t know how long he’s been staring but he doesn’t care at this point. you’ve donned a steel blue bikini that looks painted onto your skin.
and instantly he’s hard.
he lets himself stew in the corner for a while, until he catches you slip into the house to grab something.
his feet are moving without thought.
“cute outfit.” he mutters as he slipped in the door behind you, shutting it with a quiet click.
you smile innocently at him but he sees your eyes drop to the tent in his swim trunks. “thanks, i got it for today.”
“for today or for me?”
your hands slow at whatever drink you’re pouring and he watches you bite your bottom lip. “i take it you like it then?”
“that’d be an understatement.”
“mm good, i figured you would.”
he closes the space between you in three long strides, keeping you facing the counter and setting his arms on either side of you to cage you in.
“that right? you were thinkin of me when you bought this?” his flesh hand trails down the side of your waist, fingers dancing along the line of your bikini bottoms.
“i think of you all the time bucky.”
fuck him. his metal hand cups your jaw and tilts it back to kiss you. your lips are warm and soft with a hint of whatever cherry drink your were sipping. it’s all consuming.
“shoulda said something sweetheart, coulda had you like this sooner.”
“maybe i just liked watching you stare at my ass all day.”
oh so it’s like that?
“i’ll do more than just stare baby.”
clothes are nowhere to be seen, he’s barely even touched you and you’re already soaked.
the first thrust in silences you both, his vibranium hand gripping the counter so hard it’ll likely have a crack in it.
“please buck,” you beg him, turning to look back at him while you push against him.
he doesn’t need to hear anymore. he crosses his right hand over to your left hip and absolutely wrecks you. skin slapping against skin, your pussy leaking out and smearing across his thighs.
“so fucking pretty, love watching this ass bounce for me.” a slap to your ass punctuates his sentence and you arch into him, chest fully pressed against the counter as he starts to spilt you in two.
the first orgasm sneaks up on you. one second it’s a tight knot in your belly the next your cunt is fluttering and clenching buckys cock like a vice.
he does nothing but fuck you through it, groaning as he grabs your arm and pulls it to your back, slipping his vibranium fingers between your legs and brushing your clit.
it doesn’t stop, a second climax rolls right behind the first and you can barely muffle the scream that leaves your lips.
he ups his pace. sharp, precise and unforgiving snaps of his hips melt you into a puddle under him, his tip bruising your cervix to tears.
“god you’re so fuckin gorgeous like this baby, eyes and pussy wet for me. gonna make me cum, let me cum inside you? oh please baby i need to fill this pussy up.”
in all your years you’d never thought you’d hear bucky begging, let alone for something you would so willingly give.
“give it to me bucky.”
he doesn’t need to be told twice. thrusts grow sloppy and erratic, his grip on your arm tightens as he pulls your back flush against him.
the new angle makes you gasp, his metal hand resumes its tight, wild and determined circles on your clit making you fall apart all over again.
bearing down on his giant cock, your head falls back against his shoulder as you shudder through your orgasm.
you’re still clenching him tight when he follows you over, his hips stutter up into you as hot thick ropes shoot inside you.
the hand on your clit moves up to your tummy, pushing lightly somehow making the comedown all the more intense.
“never really took you for an ass man till now.” you breathed out still in a fucked out daze.
it was a simple arrangement until it got complicated.

The shirt reeked of perfume and the memories of last night. Laced into the cotton contained decisions you shouldn't have made fading like the scent of rose in the collar.
Besides you, he remains perfectly still. The only movement is his chest rising and falling peacefully, lost in a dream world where the reality of the situation hasn't sunk in yet.
Rubbing your eyes, you force yourself off the bed slowly, feeling the mattress rise at the sudden movement. Glancing over your shoulder, you check to ensure he's asleep and silently sigh in relief.
Picking up your shirt and pants, you slip them on as you tiptoe toward the door, barely allowing yourself a chance to admire the collection of photographs from his past and ornaments he found from his adolescence, now gathering dust.
"You know, sneaking out on a dame in the morning was my move." Freezing at the door, you swear under your breath at his groggy morning voice, hating how your heart began to soar from the interruption of your internal monologue.
"I didn't think you'd notice me leave." You admit, speaking just above a whisper.
Bucky forces himself to sit upright, hair falling in his face, knowing that whilst your back is turned, the small frown on his face can remain.
Turning on your heels, keeping your clothes close to your chest, Bucky sits with the sheets resting on his hips, leaving his chest exposed as a sheen of sweat glistens over it.
"Do you forget I was a soldier, doll?" Bucky breathes out a laugh, noticing a glimpse of a smile cross your lips.
"Sometimes," You shrug. "especially when you're a softie who cuddles in his sleep." A chuckle passes from you, and Bucky glances away. "Anyway, thanks for last night."
Pursing his lips, Bucky fails to find the right words and allows you to slip out from his room once again without saying the truth.

With heavy eyes, you try to read over the mission report but the words continue to blur together on the screen.
"Someone had a late night, huh?" Yelena chuckles, raising an eyebrow and catching the slight pink rising up your neck at her comment.
"What can I say?" You shrug, a crass smile briefly on your lips at the thought of last night, and the previous nights before.
Yelena sighs, leaning back in her seat opposite you, crossing her arms in defeat. "I just don't get why you don't date. It's obvious you two have feelings for one another." She states it as fact, resulting in you laughing at such.
"Good joke, Lena." You brush the statement off, missing the look she shares with Ava, now sitting up front in the SUV. "But we get on as friends, and friends who have fun every now and then." Shrugging it off, you return your attention to your screen.
It was an in-and-out mission. Recover some missing files stolen about Sentry, even though Valentina assured they were all burnt, when she conveniently tried to kill you all. A simple mission, only requiring three of you to go and be back in time for Bob's latest cooking conquest.
Turns out, the mission was anything but in-and-out. Instead, you were greeted with a hailstorm of bullets while Ava shifted in and out, taking down the assailants with Yelena, whilst you were tasked with gathering the files in question.
Locating the files was the easy part, but upon retrieving the USB drive Val informed you of, the laptop flashed a timer on the screen, counting down from 30. "Fuck." You mutter, quickly backing away into the eerie silence of the corridor. "Guys?" Yelling, you rush toward the direction of grunts and screams.
Wiping her brow with a gun in hand, Yelena catches the panic setting into your gaze. "What is it?"
"There's a-" Before you could finish the sentence, the explosion sets off, causing the room behind you to implode and the corridor ceiling to shatter into shards around you.
"Y/n!" Yelena's muffled voice calls out, but you're acutely aware of the glass shards now buried into various ligaments, and the ringing in your ears drowning out the pleas from your friend. Dust clouds your vision as heat rises around you. "Back up, medic, any fucking thing!" Her demands begin to fade as your eyes start to close, the weight of it all beginning to settle.
You didn't even say goodbye to Bucky.
*
"She's going to wake up, right?" Bob is the first to speak up, seeing you lying unconscious on the stretcher being escorted through the watch tower to the newly sterile med bay. "She'll be fine, of course she will." He assures himself quietly, aware of Bucky's fists clenching and releasing repeatedly.
No one had any answers, no one knew what had happened, no one could tell them anything about your condition or if you were going to pull through. And worst of all, Bucky hadn't been honest with you, and now you might be gone.
He'd never seen you look so fragile, covered in cuts, blood staining your clothes and smoke marking your skin. Even when sharing your deepest secrets together, you held your own, but now, with your eyes closed and lips turned down in pain, he struggles to keep it together.
"Barnes." One of the medics, Simon, calls him to follow.
Quick on his heels, Bucky remains eerily silent, his mind whirring with everything he should've said, every missed opportunity to be more than just friends.
The smell hits him first, the antiseptic and alcohol clings to his senses. "Bucky," Yelena's voice is raspy, she too isn't in the best state, but stable enough to now sit beside your bed.
Now looking down at you, Bucky can feel his heart twist. You've been cleaned up, but he knows you;re in pain, still unconscious. "What have they said?" He cooly asks, now blankly meeting Yelena's gaze.
"They say she's lucky." Trying to compose herself, she sniffles. "No glass penetrated any vital organs, she lost a lot of blood, broken ribs, concussion, potential hearing loss, broken collarbone and right leg." Listing off the injuries, Bucky's eyes scan over your body, how different it was from the one he fell asleep with in his arms last night.
Taking his prolonged silence as the time to leave, Yelena squeezes your hand. "We all love her, Bucky." Yelena states, leaving Bucky with those words as she departs the ward.
Now perched in Yelena's vacant chair, Bucky grasps hold of your limp hand, flinching at the red marks and cuts coating your skin. "Oh, doll," He mumbles. "You're so annoying at times, you know that, right?" An involuntary laugh leaves him. "Look at me, it was meant to be a no-strings-attached arrangement, or whatever you called it." Bucky sighs, running his metal fingers through his hair.
"And here I am, the moment I got the call, I rushed downstairs, demanded answers on what happened. Alexi and John had to reframe me from smashing the place up as no one could answer me." He recalls the events of this morning, how drastically different it was from the moments with you before you left. "Then you came in, and I, I shut down."
Your breathing remains level, starting to hear a muttered one-sided conversation.
"I thought I'd lost you. That I'd never get to be honest about it all, about us." His fingers run over your hand gently. "And all I'd have left of you was one of your bras you left." He breathes out a laugh.
Despite the pain, as you begin to come to your senses, your fingers dance in his palm. "Buck?" Your voice hoarse as you squint at his blue eyes, the relief painted clear as day. "I, I"
"Hey, hey, take it steady," Bucky reassures, offering you a cup of water as he guides it to your lips.
Swallowing the liquid, you sigh. "I'd of at least left you a matching set." A laugh bubbles in your throat, but the pain in your ribs digs in, refusing the motion to take place.
"You are unbelievable." Bucky shakes his head, unable to stop the small smile gracing his lips. "Don't scare me like that again." He brings your palm to his lips, kissing it gently.
"I didn't mean to." The words leave you in a whisper, picturing him in those moments before you were unconscious. All those things you'd never said in fear of rejection, of losing the greatest friend you'd ever known. "We'll be okay, right?"
Bracing yourself with a wince, Bucky simply shuffles closer. His hand now rests on your head, brushing your hair from your face. "We'll be okay. I promise you, doll." Bringing his face to yours, he rests his forehead against yours.
Outside the room, the New Avengers gather, not so subtly eavesdropping. "You owe me thirty bucks, Walker!" Ava claps happily, relishing in John's annoyance.
"I don't know about that; they didn't exactly announce their undying love to one another." John retorts, only to be met with a dumbfounded look from Ava, Yelena and Bob.
"It's pretty obvious, John." Yelena sighs, now shooing everyone out of the doorway before glancing back at her dear friends, relieved they finally got out of the friend zone.
the sacred combo!! steve is a clingy mf - either always having his arms wrapped around his s.o, a hand on their leg or on their waist, and if he's not with them, he'll be texting you all day, asking how you are and just chatting. steve has had to learn to live every day like it's his last, so he'll never go to work, bed, or even to the shops, without telling you he loves you. it's just part of his routine, really.
bucky barnes - acts of service
bucky is not very good with words, or with expressing himself. even before hydra, it was something he struggled with. so, acts of service are his main love language. it can be little things - making coffee in the morning, putting the laundry away when he knows you're busy - or bigger things, like taking your car into the shop when you forget, or building new furniture, or shaking down your weird co-worker who was kinda mean the other day. he finds so much purpose in just making your life easier (in a healthy way!!).
sam wilson - quality time
sam is a man of quality time. he has to work away quite a lot and is always on the go with work and his tasks, but when he does see you - and he makes sure it's a fair amount - he tries to make it count. hell, it doesn't even matter what you do, as long as he's with you. sam does try to make sure you're always having a good balance of chill time and fun activities though, so he always plans the best day.
frank castle - words of affirmation + gifts
aight this might seem weird bc frank is not very good with words (try and make him form a sentence without a swear word or abbreviation, i dare you) but the ones he does say, he always means. especially when he says that he loves you and would probably kill for you. but, it's frank's famously bad way with words that make you realise how much he loves you - because you're the only person he will verbally open up to and be a complete and open book with. as for gifts, every single one he has ever bought you has been the most thoughtful, sweet things; stuff you wouldn't even think to buy yourself. it's just a testament for how well he knows you.
matt murdock - physical touch
this one feels fairly obvious tbh, because alongside his hearing, matt's touch is his the sense he relies on most. he loves your voice and the way you sound but most of all, he loves the way you feel. whether it's the feeling of your skin against his, your fingers all tangled up, or when you kiss him, he just fucking loves it. physical touch is matt's favourite way of knowing you.
Prompt - ‘In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.’
Bucky Barnes was nothing if not a man who felt too much. He’d fight fiercely for those he loved, he’d make an idiot of himself to get the attention of the woman he loved. He let himself get knocked around if it meant he could catch a glimpse of her scowl that he’d always manage to turn into a smile.
“Seriously, Barnes?” You groan as you walk into the medical tent, seeing the familiar sight of James Barnes on one of your beds.
“It wasn’t my fault this time!” He lied, watching as you shook your head but there was a fondness to it.
Bucky could read you like his most favourite book at this point. You’d been appointed to 107th to join their medical team and it didn’t take long to capture the attention of the Sergeant. He had fallen for you in that first meeting, watching you boss around men twice the size of you, putting them into place without fear, putting him in his place when he tried to play off a pair of broken ribs as nothing.
Since then Bucky had done anything to be around you, he’d had his nose nearly broken, he’d fractured his wrist, he’d faked more stomach bugs than he could count. You didn’t buy any of them, you never did and yet you still let him take up one of the beds in the medical tent for hours on end.
“We both know that’s bullshit.” You called him out and he didn’t even try and look guilty anymore, instead he shot you a bright grin and shrugged in a what can you do way causing you to roll your eyes though there was no heat in the gesture. “What is it this time?”
His smile widened impossibly as he lifted his shirt up, noticing the way your eyes took in the sight appreciatively before they widened at the cut across his torso, a blood soaked rag falling down as he lifted his shirt.
“You’re a real piece of work, Barnes, you know that?” You asked, starting to gather your supplies before sitting next to Bucky, the grin still firmly in place, slightly more smug now that he’d seen you take him in.
“Don’t deny it, doll, you love me patching me up.” Bucky said confidently, knowing that you could have demanded one of the other nurses deal with him if you really didn’t like him.
“There’s better ways to get my attention, no need to go get yourself all cut up on my behalf.” You told him, watching as his eyes widened slightly and a smirk pulled at his lips. “Ready?”
“For you, doll, always.” He smirked and you groaned again causing him to laugh, though it was quickly silenced as you pushed the needle through his skin, slowly patching up the wound and letting Bucky fill the silence, fighting back a blush as he spoke.
“There’s my most favourite nurse!” Bucky called as he stumbled into the med tent, leaning heavily against another soldier, his skin pale and sweaty.
“What happened?” You ask straight away, gesturing for the soldier to put Bucky on the bed closest to you as you get to watch stripping the uniform of the man and frowning at the amount of blood pouring from two wounds on his stomach.
“He got shot, ma’am.” The soldier answered and your frown deepened, looking up at Bucky who’s eyes were half lidded but he was still grinning at you, apparently no injury was bad enough to wipe that damn grin off his face.
“‘M fine, Y/N.” He tried to assure you, seeing the frown between your eyebrows deepen and you could help but let out a soft huff of laughter, moving to get some needles, tweezers, gauze, pads and everything else you need.
“Told you there’s better ways to get my attention, didn’t mean go and get yourself shot, Buck.” You say softly, sitting next to him and cleaning the blood, checking him over and seeing both wounds were clean through, good no need to go digging for bullets.
“Shit, doll, you’re calling me by name. My dying?” He asked, slurring the words out and your heart ached at the slight tremor in his voice.
“Come on, it’s me we're talking about. You really think I'm about to let you die?” You ask him, forcing a smile onto your face and looking up at him assuringly before focusing on the worst of the two wounds.
“Better not let me die, Y/N/N, gotta take my girl out on a date.” He breathed out, looking at you so softly, groaning when you pressed down on his wound. “Fuck, doll.”
“Your girl, huh?” You shushed him softly, keeping him talking, needing him to stay alert for your own sanity more than anything.
You took a deep breath, knowing you needed to stay calm in order to make sure Bucky got through this, to make sure he didn’t lose any more blood than he had. You needed to push aside your feelings aside and focus on the patient.
Even if that patient was Bucky Barnes.
“Best girl around.” Bucky slurred out, a choked laugh escaping him and you let yourself smile. “Fixes me up all the damn time, even though she knows I’m an idiot.”
“You certainly are an idiot.” You agree easily, watching as he glares at you, a dazed smile still firmly in place.
You had cleaned the wound well enough that the blood had stopped pouring from it and focused on patching it up, keeping Bucky talking the whole time, even as he winced and flinched, his eyes falling shut.
You were fine so long as he kept talking.
The second gunshot wound was much easier to patch up, you had it cleaned and packed quickly and once they were both dealt with you sat back heavily, looking at Bucky’s face, watching as he forced his eyes open and looked at you drained.
“All done, doll?” He asked, voice thick with tiredness and you smiled softly at him, eyes stinging slightly as you swallowed around the lump in your throat.
“All done, soldier. Get some rest.” You told him, your own voice thick with emotion and you stood up, needing a minute to yourself, eyes watering but a hand on your wrist stopped you from leaving.
“Stay, doll?” Bucky asked softly and you couldn’t bring yourself to say no, a single tear slipping down your cheek as you turned around and sat back down, Bucky forcing his heavy eyes open and frowning at you. “M’alright.”
You nodded, you knew he was, you were the one to patch him up and yet you felt like you couldn’t catch your breath now that you were done. Bucky practically lived in the med tent, you were used to him being hurt, used to fixing up his many injuries. This one was different though, this one was serious.
You’d never really had Bucky in your med bay because he needed saving. There were so many factors that could have changed the outcome, if the gunshots had caught Bucky a bit to the right it could have caused damage you couldn’t have fixed, if it had taken them any longer to get Bucky to you he could have lost too much blood. It was the first time you’d had Bucky in serious danger.
It’s not like you were stupid, you knew who he was, what his job was but when it was just the two of you it was easy to forget there was a war going on outside, easy to forget that seriousness of his job.
“You’re alright.” You breathed out, another few tears making their way down your cheek and Bucky reached down, threading his fingers with yours and bringing them up to his lips, pressing a soft kiss to the back of your hand, his eyes closed. “Sleep, Buck.”
Bucky nodded, following the command easily.
After that day you let yourself give into Bucky’s flirting, giving it back just as quickly as he gave it, realising it could all be snatched from you all too soon.
It was a few weeks later, you and Bucky had practically been inseparable. All his free time had been spent with you in the med bay and he savoured each moment he got with you, his little piece of heaven during the war.
You frowned as you walked towards the med bay, hearing one of the nurses raise her voice. It wasn’t entirely uncommon, most of the soldiers looked down at a woman doing a job, sometimes it was called for but when you stepped closer your eyes widened when you heard Bucky.
“Sergeant Barnes-” The nurse tried again but Bucky cut her off.
“No! I want Y/N.” Bucky demanded, like the med tent was the sort of place to be making demands.
You rolled your eyes stepping into the tent, Bucky not noticing you but the nurse's face filled with relief as she saw you before glaring at Bucky.
“You know,” You say, causing Bucky’s head to snap over to you, your eyes immediately going to the trail of blood falling from his temple. “When your head’s bleeding, people usually aren’t picky about what nurse they have.”
“What can I say? I have my favourite nurse, no point ending up in this place if I don’t get to see my girl.” Bucky grinned at you and you rolled your eyes though there was a fondness you couldn’t deny and you nodded at the other nurse, taking over.
“What happened this time?” You asked, holding a damp rag against the wound.
“Cut my head jumping out of the way of a bullet.” Bucky told you and you sighed, pulling the rag away and seeing the blood had already begun to slow. “Hey, when are you finally gonna let me take you out?”
Bucky had been asking you out ever since he got shot and each time you never gave him a real answer because how could you? There was a war happening, even with his free time he couldn’t just leave to go on a date with you.
“Come find me when you’ve won the war.” You finally told him, watching a blinding grin spread across his face, eyes lighting up as he nodded.
“Doll, I’m gonna marry you once the war’s won.” He swore and the way he said it, you had no choice but to believe he would, you weren’t complaining, the rest of your life with Bucky Barnes seemed like a pretty good life.
“You promise?” You grin back at him, the man unable to help himself, pulling you closer to stand between his legs and closing the distance between you, his fingers tangling in your hair as he tilted your face up to his, his gaze intense, before his lips claimed yours in a fierce, passionate kiss full of promise of a future. You couldn’t help but gasp at the sudden intensity, your hands clutching at his shirt. The world around you faded away as you both lost yourselves in each other, the kiss leaving you both breathless.
“I promise. I’m gonna marry you when this is all over.” He promised and rested his forehead against yours. “On my life, we’re gonna spend the rest of our lives together.”
You hear the tent open and turn around from where you stood sorting through your supplies, rolling your eyes but not stopping the grin that spreads across your face.
“Here comes trouble.” You say to yourself, loud enough for Bucky to hear and he just grins back at you, sitting himself on the closest bed to you. “What is it this time then?”
“Oh nurse Y/N, you gotta help me.” Bucky groans, clutching his heart. “My heart is hurting so bad, think I’m having withdrawals from seeing my best girl, think you gotta cure for that?”
“You’re an idiot.” You laughed at him, swatting him with a rag before going back to organising your supplies, knowing the men were heading into another battle and you’d need everything ready for when they came back.
“Come on, doll.” He pouted dramatically over at you, jumping from the bed and turning you to face him. “A kiss for good luck?”
You rolled your eyes again, something you did a lot in the presence of James Barnes but couldn’t help but smile up at him. Bucky smiled down at you, his hand coming up to cup your cheek in his hand, delicately running his thumb across your cheek bone before he guided you up to him, meeting you halfway and then his lips found yours, gently at first. Slowly, he deepened the kiss, becoming more passionate as he pulled you impossibly closer, his other hand moving to the small of your back and you couldn’t help but melt into him, arms wrapping around his neck, a soft sigh escaping your lips.
“Come back to me, soldier.” You told him when the two of you finally pulled away, foreheads resting against each other.
“I got promises to keep, doll, course I’m coming back.” He said, watching as you blushed at the reminder of his promises.
Bucky stole another handful of kisses before one of the men came in, telling him he had to leave.
“See you soon, gorgeous.” He grinned, pressing one more breathtaking kiss to your lips before running out of the med tent and you sat on one of the beds, watching the spot where he had stood, smiling like a fool in love but you couldn’t deny that’s what you were.
Too much time passed, not enough information was given. You paced holes in the med tent floor, he should be back by now. Something was wrong, there were whispers but nobody would tell you anything, everything was on a need to know basis and it was driving you mad.
It had been well over a week since Bucky left and the ache in your chest grew as more and more days passed without a single word.
When the med bay tent opened your head shot round, there were dark circles under your eyes, your hair was a mess from the amount of times you’d ran your hands through it. You shook your head when you saw the commanding officer step into your tent.
“Don't.” You said firmly, eyes already filling with tears and the man frowned, a grim look on his face.
“Nurse Y/LN,” He started and you shook your head, “I regret to inform you that Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes is missing in action and after our best efforts to identify the location of him and the 107th, we believe he has died in the line of duty. I know this must be difficult news to hear, but please know that you have the full support of the military and all available resources to assist you during this difficult time."
You felt your legs give out, hitting the floor and sobs wracked your body, the choking feeling you got seeing Bucky shot coming back in full force, head shaking as you pleaded with any god that would listen to bring him back.
The commanding officer left, leaving you a sobbing mess on the floor.
“He promised.” You choked out to nobody. “He was meant to marry me.”
You stayed there for a long while, crying for hours for the loss of what could have been. It would have been amazing, a lifetime with James Barnes and now, now you had to miss him for longer than you had known him.
Maybe in another life he came back to you, maybe in another life the war was won and he came back to you, swept you up in his arms and kept every promise he ever made. Maybe in another life, you had lazy mornings in bed, in another life you did the mundane stuff like taxes and laundry together.
Summary: you prank Bucky with another TikTok trend.
Warnings: fluff, bit of angst, sad Bucky for like 10 seconds
Word count: 1,132 🩵
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
It was another rare day off for you and Bucky — a luxury that didn’t come around often. The rest of the team had been called away on what Val had assured was an “in-and-out” mission, something simple and low-stakes. That left the two of you home alone for once, free to breathe without the weight of the world pressing down.
You were stretched out on your stomach across the bed, phone in hand, mindlessly scrolling through TikTok. Bucky was sitting at the foot of the bed, back propped against the wall, brows furrowed as he frowned at something on his phone. One of your calves was draped over his lap, and his metal hand absently massaged it, warm and comforting even through the cool vibranium.
You weren’t paying attention to the screen anymore — until a trending sound caught your eye. That wicked little smirk tugged at your lips.
A plan formed.
With a grin, you closed TikTok and opened the camera app, flipping to video mode and pressing record. You angled the camera toward yourself, barely suppressing a mischievous glint in your eyes.
“Holy shit, Buck,” you started dramatically, eyes wide. “This guy is so damn hot.”
You watched him through the screen as his head perked up, eyes narrowing slightly. “Who, doll?” he asked, the gentle kneading of your calf coming to a stop.
You could already see it happening — the subtle way his shoulders stiffened, the slight frown deepening as he slowly began to shift your legs off his lap.
“There’s this guy on my feed,” you went on, feigning breathless awe. “He’s so tall. Kinda grumpy, but he’s got these gorgeous ocean-blue eyes… and long, luscious hair I just wanna run my hands through and pull a little.” You bit your lip for effect. “I think I might be in love.”
Bucky stood up abruptly.
The sight of him — jaw clenched, eyes downcast, heart clearly sinking — made your own breath hitch. He looked at you, mouth opening and closing like he wanted to say something, but nothing came. Instead, he just turned, walking out of the room without another word.
The soft click of the door closing behind him snapped you out of your daze.
“Shit,” you muttered, scrambling off the bed. You ran out after him, cursing the serum-enhanced speed that gave him a head start. It took a minute, but you finally caught up in the hallway, grabbing gently onto his flesh arm.
“Bucky—baby, wait.”
He stopped, but didn’t turn.
You stepped in front of him, heart pounding. “Look at me.”
He lifted his chin slowly, his eyes meeting yours — and what you saw in them nearly broke you. The flicker of insecurity, pain, and quiet defeat behind that stormy blue made your chest ache.
“What’s wrong?” you asked softly.
He sighed, voice barely above a whisper. “I… I can’t compete with those guys you see on your feed, doll.”
Your heart cracked.
Without a word, you lifted your phone again and unlocked it. Pulling up the camera app, you switched it to the front-facing view and angled it toward him.
“I don’t want you to compete with him, Buck.”
He looked up, confused — until he saw his own reflection on the screen. His eyes widened.
“…It’s me?” he asked quietly, almost like he didn’t believe it.
You nodded, eyes softening. “Of course it’s you. It’ll always be you.”
He blinked, the weight in his chest slowly lifting. And when you leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, he smiled into it — small, a little sheepish, but real.
“Still think you’re funny, pulling that little prank?” he murmured against your mouth.
You grinned. “A little.”
He shook his head, chuckling under his breath as he pulled you into his chest. “You’re lucky I love you.”
“You’re lucky I love you, Barnes.”
And just like that, the rest of the world didn’t matter anymore.
Bucky didn’t let go of you for a long moment.
His arms stayed firm around your waist, holding you like he needed the confirmation — that you were still there, still his. You didn’t mind. If anything, you buried yourself further into his chest, listening to the soft, steady beat of his heart.
You always loved this part of him. The way he’d let the tension melt out of his body once he realized he was safe. That you were safe. Like he could finally exhale.
His hand found the back of your head, fingers threading through your hair in lazy strokes. “You know,” he murmured, his voice rumbling low against your temple, “you really scared me for a second.”
You pulled back just enough to look up at him, guilty and soft-eyed. “I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t mean to. It was a stupid trend.”
He gave a half-smile, brushing his knuckles against your cheek. “You got me good, I’ll give you that.”
You grinned. “You’re not mad?”
“Nah,” he said, kissing the top of your head. “I’m too tired to be mad. Plus, you said I’m hot, so… guess I’ll let it slide.”
You giggled as he guided you back toward the bedroom with an arm wrapped tightly around you. When you reached the bed, he sat first and gently tugged you down with him, pulling the covers up around you both like a cocoon.
You immediately settled on top of him, limbs tangled, your head resting on his chest. The cool contrast of his metal hand curled around your waist while the warmth of his other hand rested on your hip made you melt into him.
He smelled like sandalwood and clean laundry and the faint trace of leather — home.
“You really meant it?” he asked after a beat, his voice softer now. “That it’ll always be me?”
You looked up at him again and reached for his hand, pressing your lips to the scarred knuckles.
“Always, Bucky. There’s no one else I’d ever want. Not with your grumpy morning hair and ocean eyes and that stupid little smirk you try to hide when I’m being ridiculous.”
He snorted, lips twitching. “You are ridiculous.”
“But I’m your ridiculous,” you whispered, tracing the line of his jaw with your fingertip.
His eyes fluttered shut, and he nodded. “Yeah. You are.”
Silence fell over the room, warm and familiar. Your breathing slowed in sync with his, your fingers lazily drawing patterns on his chest.
“You wanna watch something?” you asked sleepily.
“I’d rather stay like this,” he mumbled, already halfway gone.
“Okay,” you whispered, burying yourself closer into him. “Me too.”
And just like that, the world faded away — nothing left but steady heartbeats, warm blankets, and the soft, quiet love that wrapped around you like the safest place on earth.

Summary: Being Steve’s daughter and him and Bucky thinking of getting their own place for a while away from Stark Tower. But Y/n was raised along side Tony by Howard. Tony’s like her brother and she’s not sure if she wants to leave with them.
Authors Note: Y/n got into something in Howards lab as a kids and has ever since aged very slowly since.
“Are you sure about this?” Bucky asked him knowing this was a big change and it would be life changing for the both of them. But till Stark’s compound was complete and rebuilt everyone was in the Tower. So Bucky and Steve figured till then why couldn’t they get a place away for a while.
“Why not Bucky? I think it could be good for us.” Steve was confused by Bucky's hesitation. They had talked about it multiple times.
“Steve, what about Y/n/n?” Bucky didn’t want to leave Y/n behind and he didn’t think Steve was thinking about how Y/n may not want to leave. Bucky loved spending time with his niece and he’d miss her if they left but he knew he’d probably end up over all the time with her anyway. But Bucky didn’t think Steve was thinking about the fact Y/n might not want to leave the Tower. Leave Tony.
“She’ll come with us.” Steve shrugged as he moved to sit next to Bucky.
“Steve, she may look like she’s only 17 but she’s a lot older than that. She doesn’t have to come if she doesn’t want to. One, because she’s an adult and two, Steve, she's closer to Stark than us right now.” Bucky knew it was hard for Steve to hear but they didn’t have any control over not being there for her growing up.
“I know.” Steve sighed, he knows Buck didn’t mean to but he definitely popped his bubble. Even though Y/n is Steve’s daughter she only grew up with him and Bucky for 2 years before they disappeared from her life. Steve often forgot but he was also at the same time always reminded because she wasn’t a little toddler anymore.
“Its not your fault.” Bucky placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
Steve rested his head in his hand’s with his elbows on his knees. “I just wish we could’ve been there for her growing up.”
“Me too.” Bucky wished he could’ve spoiled his niece and seen her grown up. To also not be the one to kill her father figure even if he was being controlled.
“If she wants to stay at the Tower with Tony she’s welcome to. She knows him better, if she feels better staying with him then she can. But I’m gonna at least ask her to possibly come with us.” Steve hoped she would consider coming with them but he knew he had to be understanding if she didn’t.
“I think that's the best you can do.” Bucky patted his back and got up leaving Steve alone in the living area to think on how he’s going to.

“Hey, Y/n. Can we talk for a second?” Steve asked once he finally found her. Y/n had been out with Natasha and Wanda and then she did some training with Sam. So it took awhile to find time for them to sit down and ask her.
“Sure.” Y/n nodded smiling, her and Sam had just finished sparing anyway.
Y/n headed over to Steve as Sam left, passing them to go shower. Y/n smiled up at her biological father wondering what he could want to talk to her about. Steve motioned for them to go sit on the side of the sparring ring before he took a deep breath.
“So me and Buck are thinking of getting our own place till the compounds back up and I wanted to know if you’d be willing to come with me?” Even though Steve’s words were meant to be a statement the end did come out sounding like a question. He was nervous to hear her answer. Sure they had been working on their relationship, but still wasn’t where either one of them would like it to be.
“I-I don’t know.” Y/n stuttered, their relationship was still new for Y/n. It had been growing good, not to fast or slow. But moving away from the Tower, away from what she knew was nerve wracking to her and she knew how much it meant to the two super soldiers. Sometimes, rarely but sometimes it was a lot of pressure.
“You don’t have to answer now. You also don’t have to move in with us at all. No pressure. I just want to let you know it’s an option.” Steve didn’t want her to feel like she had to choose him. He wanted her to want to .
“I’ll think about it.” Y/n nodded, she would definitely have to think on it.
“That's all I ask.” Steve smiled before hoping down and leaving her to mull over his offer.

“Tony. Can we talk?” Y/n asked peeking into his lab needing to speak with him about Steve’s offer. Y/n grew up with Tony the two were practically like siblings and treated each other as such. So when one of them needed to talk they always found the other.
“Course. Get over her short stack.” Tony waved her in as he wheeled his chair over to her as she sat down in her designated chair kept just for her in his office. “What’s up?”
“Steve told me he and Bucky are looking into getting their own place.” Y/n started with, picking at her nail polish nervously.
“And they want you to go with them?” Time’s like this are hard for Tony. He didn’t want to share Y/n but he knew it wasn’t fair to not to. He’d support her no matter what she chose. Even if he didn’t agree.
“Yeah.” She nodded looking down at her lap.
Tony nodded in understanding. “It only makes sense Y/n/n. He is your bio-father and the merchant candidate is your uncle. They didn’t get to see you grow up, they missed a lot and just want to get to know you better.”
Y/n looked up at Tony and sighed. “I know and I want to get to know them better to. It just. . .”
“Different. And you don’t like change. You never have.” Tony let out an airy laugh shaking his head in amusement and reminisce.
“I might have an idea that won’t involve a lot of change.’ Y/n spoke up, having just come up with an idea that might work for both pirates in this situation.
“Y/n, no matter what you’ll always be a Stark.” Tony stated as he watched Y/n get up and head out, no doubt to put her plan in motion. Y/n would always be a Stark to Tony. She may be Rogers by blood but she was also a Stark through and through, and he’d always have her back.
“Love you too, Tony.” Y/n smiled back at him, she’d always have his back and she’d always have Tony by her side.

“Steve, Bucky. Can we talk for a second?” Y/n asked as she approached them in the living area where they were sitting on the couches looking through the tv channels.
“Yeah.” Steve turned the tv off and Bucky nodded in agreement and the two turned to face her as she sat down across from them.
“So I thought about what you said. The moving thing and all that.” Y/n started knowing that they might be slightly disappointed but she needed to do what was best for her. “I’m not going to fully move in. As it’s been pointed out to me many times I’ve never liked change and as much as I’m use to it I don’t think I’ll ever like it. But I’m not going to fully move in but if you have an extra room I’ll stay over sometimes. I want to get to know you both better. We’re family. But I also am family with Tony. And this is my home.”
Bucky smiled thinking this was the best outcome, he pulled her into a hug. “Of course, Doll. C’mere.”
Y/n smiled hugging Bucky back, before turning to look at Steve. “I’m sorry, I just can’t fully leave.”
Steve shook his head with a smile on his face, he pulled her into his arms after Bucky let go with his. “You don’t have to be sorry. There’s nothing for you to be sorry for.”
“We completely understand, Doll.” Bucky rubbed her back. Steve and Bucky understood they weren’t the only one’s she was family with and they’d have to share her. But at least they got to have some of her.

๑彡 i don’t think i’ve ever projected this hard on any of my works before, but— my sincere apologies bc i made yn a college of engineering student, like i am *insert exhaling emoji here*
๑彡 if you think tony’s a little too ooc here . . . that’s bc he’s based on endgame!tony — specifically his dynamic with morgan :D
You, [full name], are the child of Tony Stark— the Tony Stark. Not biologically in any way, but treated like one nevertheless.
A blessing it might be to remember whenever you’re around your adoptive father and everyone close to him, it’s also a curse the media loves to remind you every chance they get. They are extremely selective about when they consider you a Stark — and it all depends on the narrative they want to push. Effectively, you’re only a Stark in their eyes whenever you do something they deem unbecoming of the name.
Your father Tony does his best to shield you from all the negative attention that comes with being his child. His efforts go beyond suing reporters and paparazzi to oblivion — and assigning shadow bodyguards to keep you safe. He gives you the freedom to live normally as well, which includes bestowing you another name that flies under the radar. [First name] Carbonell.
[First name] Carbonell who just decided to participate in their university’s hack-a-thon on a whim. Who didn’t even tell their dad where they disappeared to on a weekend. And who just got called onto the makeshift stage.
"Congratulations," your old Assembly Language Programming professor greets you as you shake his hand and accept the 3D-printed trophy he’s offering you.
So much for only attending for the free merch.
(You came for the workshops, too, of course. But it was never in your plan to code something, especially with a clock set so tight, let alone submit something for judging. It just kind of . . . happened.)
You give a small, polite smile. "Thank you."
Once more, the crowd roars with applause. However, this time, it’s accompanied by a familiar celebratory whistle. Dad.
You locate him just before the shutter clicks. Your winning photo immortalizes your genuine reaction to spotting your dad in the crowd.
You run to him immediately after descending from the makeshift stage. He catches you in an embrace. "Congratulations, [nickname]." You melt into the hug as he plants a kiss on top of your head. "I’m proud of you."
Truth be told, you never imagined that you two would reach this point. You were convinced that you were meant to die in fourth grade, when HYDRA kidnapped you as petty revenge to your SHIELD agent biological parents. It was only by pure luck that the Avengers found you when they did — especially when they weren’t even looking for you in the first place. Although it wasn’t Iron Man who found you first, you clung to Tony since then because he reminded you of your biological father the most.
Tony, for his part, as he later admitted to you during your junior year of high school, had been hesitant to take you in himself. He cared for you a lot, to the point that he had been convinced you deserved a better guardian than he could ever be. Yet, at the same time, the thought of never seeing you again was too much to bear.
The two of you had to figure things out along the way. And you’d like to think you have done well in doing your respective best.
"Thanks, Dad." You tighten your hold on him, unwilling to let go just yet. "Means a lot."
Later, when your dad had enough photos of you with your trophy in his phone, he takes you to a hamburger joint. He had denied your request to have donuts for lunch, but he did promise to get a couple dozen for dessert.
"How did you know I was on campus?" You ask as you unwrap more of your burger.
Your dad, who hasn’t peeled off his photostatic veil and stripped off his disguise, nonchalantly relies, "JARVIS tattled on you."
You stop mid-bite because of that. "Dad! You said you removed that protocol!"
"I did." His burger suddenly appears the most interesting thing to look at. "I just asked JARVIS where you were because I wanted to have lunch."
Your eyes soften. University has been . . . a lot. You haven’t been able to join your dad for meals, much less hang around his workshop like you always did when you were younger.
You thought nothing it, really. Partly because you’ve been too busy to think about it, but mostly because you assumed he wouldn’t care. After all, you still live with him — and you two see each other in the hallways every-so-often at midnight.
It never occurred to you that your dad will miss you, even when he still has everything keeping him occupied. "I miss you, too, you know."
